GOOD LORD IG VID CLOSE UP ADAM IN FRONT OF THE PERSON WHO GRABBED HIM.

I'm still on a high from the Munich concert I think, and still want to talk about all things Adam .
This video fascinates me as an Adam study. To go down into a crowd of thousands of people in a heightened, adrenaline-fuelled state is a calculated risk in most peoples' views I would say. It's the over-excitement, of course, even if it is well-intentioned. Even with the barrier, it could easily get out of control given the number of security staff on hand near him, I think.
But what he does is mirror the excitement and joy at a slightly lower level; and his excitement is real - look at the face, which counter-intuitively, actually helps to control the the crowd, because the energy levels are 'matched' well enough and therefore brought into balance. The crowd feels 'understood', so to speak, which increases their good will and therefore impulse control.
He would be doing this unconsciously, 'feeling' his way through the whole interaction. Then we get to the girl (I assume) who grabbed his arm. The natural impulse for most people would be to pull away quickly and firmly because they would feel a sense of threat. But he doesn't do that, although it's clear he wasn't expecting it and was startled for a split second. At a profound level, he genuinely likes people and he has enormous confidence in who he is.
But something else is extraordinary. Not only does he not pull away, you can see in the video that he finds the person pulling his arm, gives eye contact and actually moves in towards her. After he does that, she lets go. In other words, he lets her have what she wants, which is simply acknowledgement and closer contact with him - for a precious two seconds or so. And he is generous enough to give it. All in a nano second, completely intuitive. In the middle of a concert, while singing and having to entertain 12,000 or so other people.
It is the same with the woman who managed to get into his car in Perth. If I understand what happened correctly, imagine what it takes to open the door of your car, see someone there, take one look and have to read the intent. And then to have the emotional presence and generosity (again) to get in, remain absolutely silent, until she revealed what it was that she wanted, which was to silently sit with him for a while.
This is the man who can write Broken Open, who is emotionally available and genuinely kind to people in a way very few are, and way beyond his job description. He makes it human. He makes it real. He makes it about love and kindness. No wonder people love him. He makes it so easy to do.
But I'm glad that he is also the man who can cut someone off without a backward glance, when needed, and is nobody's fool.
I can hardly wait to know what his perspective is on the concept of 'original high'. Whatever else, it will be intelligent, fun, kind and celebratory.
Now back to my own life .....
