I was at the Ryman and the sound was chipmunky to me too. I don't get it. Apparently it's treated like a "defect" in my hearing but I've seen probably 70 shows at the Ryman, including the last time he was there at Glamnation, and never heard chipmunk effect with anyone else. I've also experienced the chipmunk effect when I saw him at Glamnation in Philly. (I saw him about 8 or 9 times and only chipmunky at that one.) At the Ryman concert, the chipmunk effect was most pronounced during first half and second half was much better . I was in row j in middle section of floor. Ryman DOES have outstanding acoustics so I was disappointed with sound ...
It was a disappointment for me, too, and I have resigned myself to the fact that it is what it is. However, he was gorgeous, and it was great to be so close and share the energy. I brought my DIL and GD, who really enjoyed Adam's show - the first comment on the way out - "That is one good looking man.!"
I feel lucky that we have so many videos and quite a few professional productions that we can enjoy. And the audio on some of them is extraordinary - and not a chipmunk to be heard...
Interesting! I heard him at same venue in Charlotte during Glamnation and didn't hear chipmunk! But at Ryman it was so pronounced it was almost comical! Not really chipmunk this time. It sounded like pure helium! I was just like, well, ok, then, it's gonna be like "that," lol.?I was really close to taking a singer friend of mine who appreciates pure technique but didn't because I know how it often goes turning someone on to something special to you and they're just like "meh"--or trying not to be. But after I heard him start to sing, I was like Thank God I didn't bring her! This phenomenon that I hear is also heard by my twenty-year-old niece. Weird.
