In a time far far away (pre-motherhood), my tummy went flat when lying down, leaving my ribs stuck up like that in the Adam lounging on boat picture. I don't have "flared ribs", unless they've been hidden by my years of existence. Swimmers do tend to get larger chests, but not always. I was a swim parent and certified swimming official, saw Olympians close up on deck, and that physique is mostly muscle development. I believe there was one swimmer with sort of a sunken chest, which he had to make up for by hardwork and spirit. I didn't intend for this to get blown out of proportion. I just asked for Cassie's opinion. I haven't always been here so I assumed that this topic has been discussed in the past as it had elsewhere. I never saw it mentioned here or anyplace else. And I have been all over Adam fansites since "Mama." So, when I read your post 1. the idea really seemed odd to me, and 2. since I am familiar with the clinical condition, I know it does not apply to Adam. A Google search gives me 66 references to "Adam Lambert" + flared + ribs -- this thread, a few weird fanfics that I wish I had not seen and some odd coincidences where "Adam Lambert" is on the same page as the two unrelated words. It appears that where ever it originated, the people using the word were not thinking of the clinical definition and just using it in some vague way. In any case, this horse is dead -- so to speak. **** New thread is up.

Well, I have now worked my way backwards....sleep is way overrated, isn't it... and I have to say, this was a beautiful thread to read, as well as look at. So, thank you to all who have provided the goods, here as well as in Japan (Adam and Queen, included ).

Boy, I'm late to the show again. Reading back thru the thread - but being in the med profession for over a quarter century, I can't help myself - must respond to this dead issue. Adam does not have flared ribs. Adam is not barrel chested. Adam has no disorder whatsoever with his torso, ribcage, thorax . . . he probably is the most exquisite example of a physique with extraordinary lung capacity I've ever known. Adam is broad chested with a wide rib cage. He has amazing posture. His countenance speaks to the deep breath. HIs chest is so broad; housing lungs amazingly powerful and expansive - with room to move; his pectoral muscles so engaging . . . he might be somewhat intimidated by the situation his body is in. Just speculating here . . . but there is an anatomical reason why he can hold a beautiful note for 22+ seconds. He was born this way. HIs body is made, and he is conditioned, to use the resources Nature gave him. He also knows HOW to breathe. How a vocalist needs to breathe in a way that utilizes the utmost lower reaches of the lungs. No shoulder movement; just the expansion of the abdominal muscles and the chest - outward, not upward. Most of us breathe shallowly. We don't even realize we're only utilizing a small portion of what Nature gave us. So much for this dead horse! Onward, to the next Tokyo show! I'll be asleep; but will wake up to amazement, I'm sure! It's Adam's fault!

I just notice that the lower edge of his ribs protrudes (not the entire ribcage) in pics where his arms are raised (performing, meet and greets). Through online research, I thought it may have been as a result of his singing technique. That's why I asked Cassie. Unlike yourself though, none of their opinions were founded in applicable knowledge. Thanks

LOL.. Who ever made that Lace top for Adam, also made that shirt for Brian. The pattern's similar or the same. The shirt they have on the site is all lace. Maybe adam bought it for Brian but he was too modest and had someone sew the sleeves onto a solid black shirt lol I think Brian's top is a full shirt but he's wearing it open over a black tank. You can see the lace near his neck also Save

Here is an interesting perspective on bigger chest. This gal has books out about primal posture and looking to un-westernized cultures for better back and neck health.
She talks a bit about throwing your chest out as something we've been taught to do but that isn't natural at the beginning of this talk but fast-foward to 26 minutes in and she'll talk about a guy in the garden with his watering can who has breathed in his chest for many years and that makes the chest large rib cage and gives it a large chest. She says the act of breathing actually changes the shape of your chest and this is a healthy stress you want to work on so that that chest and ribs will expand.
