The music industry has changed from the expected path. Like it or not, top 40 radio is only going to play the 20 somethings. Gaga is not there. P!nk is a little there. Katy Perry is not going to be there. I believe these artists will move to marketing to streaming. I can't put my finger on it, but I see Adam moving from pure pop to something more mature. A Change is Gonna Come. Don't they play Maroon 5, Bruno Mars, Sia, Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, John Legend, Kanye? Aren't a lot of these DJs they play, like David Guetta, Major Lazer, much older?

Well I remember someone saying here, might have been Q3. Alot of the big hits on the radio have come from older artists. But in terms of demo, and tbh commercialization. Pop is a young persons game. Partic Females. I just think Adams too old. Artists like Araiana Grande, Megan Trainor, Taylor of course. Are HUGE for a reason. Radio stations and DJ's design their playlists based on this. Adam wants Top 40 Success though. So he well keep going at it. I think Collabs are big right now, and they maybe key. Gaga and Katy are getting older now, so they seem to be waning too. That's not to say hits cannot come from older artists, like above it can happen. I guess Adam just needs to find the right song, and have alot of luck.

I don't know if this was posted but it is about Fantasia in Palm Beach. "The path to superstardom appears to have gotten a lot shorter in recent years, thanks in large part to a spate of TV talent shows that pluck people from obscurity and jettison them to the top of the charts. Those who don't believe winning The Voice, America's Got Talent, or American Idol all but assures a fast track to fame need only look at the careers of folks like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Adam Lambert to appreciate that premise. Add Fantasia Barrino, better known simply as Fantasia, to that list." www.browardpalmbeach.com/arts/fantasia-barrino-talks-celebrity-success-and-keeping-it-real-8245797ETA: If Adam is too old for pop as some say, why on earth does he keep trying for it when he has so more to offer? What am I missing? I know, that is the music he likes, right? Songs become hits when they get a lot of radio play for the most part.

Yes, Mainstream Top 40 radio is filled with artists over 30. It is really about the music. BUT the target audience is under 30 years old which is how it has been for decades. The most popular artist in the world -- #1 on Spotify -- is Drake and he is 30. Here are the top 20 artists on US Pop Radio -- I added some of the artists' ages to illustrate. 1 The Chainsmokers Featuring Halsey - Alex Paul (Chainsmokers) is 31. 2 Ariana Grande Featuring Nicki Minaj - Nicki Minaj is 33. 3 DJ Snake Featuring Justin Bieber - DJ Snake is 30. 4 The Weeknd Featuring Daft Punk - Guillaume Emmanuel "Guy-Manuel" de Homem-Christo is 42 and Thomas Bangalter is 41. 5 Ariana Grande Featuring Nicki Minaj 6 twenty one pilots 7 gnash Featuring Olivia O'Brien 8 Bruno Mars - Bruno is 31. 9 Alessia Cara 10 Hailee Steinfeld & Grey Featuring Zedd 11 Shawn Mendes 12 X Ambassadors 13 Sia Featuring Kendrick Lamar - Sia is 40. 14 Major Lazer Featuring Justin Bieber & MO - Diplo is 38, Jillionaire is 38, Walshy Fire is 34. 15 Kiiara 16 Shawn Mendes 17 Jon Bellion 18 Niall Horan 19 Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha 20 Rihanna Seems all over the board to me. *** I expect that Katy Perry will be back on Pop radio when she has new music. It's almost 3 years since she released PRISM and a new album is in the works and she is probably doing another worldwide tour in 2017. Gaga got a lot of radio airplay -- IMO more than the quality of the music deserved. I am not a fan of her latest album. Pink hasn't really released anything for pop radio for a while. Pop radio is about new music.

What am I missing? I know, that is the music he likes, right? Songs become hits when they get a lot of radio play for the most part. Because based on what Adam has said, Top 40 is the music he listins too. Most of the music he releases is music he listins too. Adam wants Top 40 success. Alot of older artists get hits, it really is the music that counts. But the target demo for pop radio is under 30.

Don't think anyone is questioning the target age for pop. I question when people say the artists have to be under 30 because clearly a lot of them aren't. David Guetta is almost 50. Just last year he had a pretty big hit with the 32 year old.

I agree he is not too old for pop when you compare it to the amount of current pop hits. Just I hear they say Pop is a young persons game. Their target demo is a younger demo Under 30. That's who Radio try to target through their advertising. But of course alot of the acutal radio hits can come from older artists. I guess it is down to the music. All Adam needs is the right song. I think the right collab could do the trick.
