soon?! I know I'm preaching to the choir here and people have said this before but somehow it just came to me today that if Sam Smith is successful with a ballad like "stay wi th me" and Adele also with her ballads..."Underneath" should have would have been a hiper-super-smash-mega hit I've said before that Underneath could have been Adam's arena-filler, his show-stopper, his Who Wants To Live Forever. It's a huge, magnificent song just perfect for Adam's vocal prowess. Too bad it was kept a secret to all but his own fans who bought the album. What a wonderful piece of work, equal to anything Sam Smith or Adele have done, or probably ever will do. I hope Adam will sing it again at some point. It has political overtones as well.

What those people said about Adam makes me sick. How dare they express themselves so negatively about any human being. Ugh!! My heart hurts.

It wasn't only Gokey's family, his pastor tweeted this after Danny was voted off of Idol..... But that was almost 8 years ago. Nothing can be done to change what was, so let's work on changing what can be.....

hate remembering this .. sorry I viewed this.. painful ... not reliving.. Looking ahead Danny performs in the Christian music genre, right? Go figure. That's what's so disturbing! I don't find him or his family very Christian like! Instead, they are very judgmental and I think they were trying to hurt Adam! Still pisses me off! Guess Adam got the last laugh!

Danny performs in the Christian music genre, right? Go figure. Adam had to put up with those people and the comments.. MOVING ON almost 8 years ago not a memory I want to keep I do remember that Matt had a good friend who said nasty things about Adam but she seemed to be more frustrated at all the attention he was receiving on the Idol tour. Cook fans also went on the attack tho he was from a different season. That was a real ugly time and for that reason I am glad that Adam went on with his career and success and never looked back. I think it worked so much better for him not to be so attached and dependent on what other Idols were doing. No one could know how painful some of that ugliness was for him and he may have needed to distance himself for his own protection. Gokey recently gave an interview about how Idol taught him to be more accepting of people. Maybe it did but it seemed very self serving. Adam is in a different space than those other contestants and it is hard for them to miss all of his success and his ability to still garner press attention. I love that he has been able to move forward without trying to attach himself to them.

soon?! I know I'm preaching to the choir here and people have said this before but somehow it just came to me today that if Sam Smith is successful with a ballad like "stay with me" and Adele also with her ballads..."Underneath" should have would have been a hiper-super-smash-mega hit I am not in that choir. The only thing that SWM and Underneath have in common is that they are ballads - they are not the same kind of ballad. SWM is a mid-tempo R&B ballad (84 BPM) and U is a traditional ballad (76 BPM). No hard rule on this but traditional ballads usually have a tempo range between 65-80 -- slightly more than a heartbeat. Mid tempo R&B usually between 80-100. SWM is blue-eyed soul music with updated beats. The lyrics are universal, it is a generic love song. It is the stuff that hits have been made of since the 1940's -- maybe even earlier. Guess it's true, I'm not good at a one-night stand But I still need love 'cause I'm just a man These nights never seem to go to plan I don't want you to leave, will you hold my hand? Oh, won't you stay with me? 'Cause you're all I need This ain't love it's clear to see But darling, stay with me
Underneath is the polar opposite. It is a traditional piano ballad. These songs are rarely hits. And the lyrics are heartbreaking, complex and personal, also not the kind of lyrics found in hits. It is not built to be a hit song -- it have no hook. It is not produced to be a hit song. It does not diminish it but it is an album track, not a single. "Underneath"
Strip away the flesh and bone Look beyond the lies you've known Everybody wants to talk about a freak No one wants to dig that deep Let me take you underneath
Baby, better watch your step Never mind what's on the left You're gonna see things you might not wanna see It's still not that easy for me underneath
A red river of screams Underneath Tears in my eyes Underneath Stars in my black and blue sky And underneath Under my skin Underneath, the depths of my sin Look at me Now do you see?
Welcome to my world of truth I don't wanna hide any part of me from you I'm standing here with no apologies Such a beautiful release You inside of me
A red river of screams Underneath Tears in my eyes Underneath Stars in my black and blue sky And underneath Under my skin Underneath, the depths of my sin Look at me Now do you see? Underneath, underneath, underneath... Underneath, Underneath
Welcome to my world of truth
A red river of screams Underneath Tears in my eyes Underneath Stars in my black and blue sky And underneath Under my skin Underneath, the depths of my sin Look at me Now do you see? Underneath, underneath, underneath Look at me Do you see? Yeah yeah yeah yeah!
Look at me Do you see?
Welcome to my world of truth I don't wanna hide any part of me from you
JMHO - I don't think people want to be in their cars singing "Underneath" as they head into work. There is no chance that Adam ever thought of "Underneath" as a single or as a mainstream pop hit. None. Zero. It is a fantasy -- and in my experience, a fantasy shared by Adam fans who do not buy or listen to much current music.
