I didn't see any gay overtones in how Brandon played Judas. He nailed it just the way it was intended. And the "Judas Kiss" isn't supposed to be sexual, and it was not, IMO. Ironically, Adam has said more than once that he would like to have a chance to play Judas with sexual overtones toward Jesus. He said it once some years back in an interview, and he said it more recently in the long interview he had with Ru Paul. It's a possibility that Adam voiced this idea to John Legend and was told that this production would not portray Judas in that manner. Just a thought. I could be wrong, of course. This might have had nothing to do with Adam not getting the role. Brandon is getting so much positive feedback. Well-deserved, IMO. And I must express a little bit of childish jealousy on my part. I wanted so much for Adam to get this role and be on the receiving end of those exciting tweets and great reviews that would give him a real media boost. Brandon may be headed to some more big roles before long. And good for him. He earned it. Thanks for replying. How do you know though that the role was intended not to have gay overtones? Seems to me, the motivation of Judas' character is best explained if he's in love with Jesus, and Adam's interpretation makes plenty of sense. I don't think he said anything about sexual, he just said "he's in love with the guy". I believe Adam did get the role (and at that time started following all the guys that were part of the show and liking their posts), but when his management realized the terms and couldn't negotiate better terms, they decided to pass. That must be why Judas was chosen so late, because they had to start searching again. And when I say "terms", I mean the amount of exposure for Adam during the promo etc., but you're right, it could also mean that they had artistic disagreement about how to interpret the role. I guess a gay interpretation would take too much attention away from John. I think it would be up to Andrew Lloyd Webber and the director to decide if the production had gay overtones or not.

Imo, Adam would have played the part as intended and directed but it did not work out for him to get the part. I agree. There could be lots of reasons he didn’t get the role or had to turn it down. They used Broadway actors and maybe the deciders didn’t think Adam was a good fit. Or scheduling was an issue. Or they wanted Judas to be African American. Or they wanted someone who had more acting chops. I think they knew they had to surround Legend with really strong people to cover his weaknesses. What’s interesting too, is Telsey was the casting person who brought Adam in for the understudy in Wicked. Yep. There are so many reasons why someone would not get a role. Scheduling. Different type in mind. Wanted to use more Broadway singers with more acting experience. He/management felt it was not the best move for him upon reflection. And Adam has expressed an interest in more acting gigs but I have never heard him say he wanted to limit himself to gay characters. I can't see him turning down this role because of the way Judas is portrayed. Other opportunities will come him way.

The fact that Adam changed management soon after confirms those thoughts for me. Fingers crossed for more opportunities with the new management

OT but this morning they announced the Love Loud Festival in Salt Lake City which is an entire festival in support of the LGBTQ+ community. I know it's a longshot but I would love to see Adam added to the lineup! It's after the QAL dates overseas so you never know? They do say additional performers will be announced soon. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part to see Adam and Mike Shinoda perform at the same festival lol loveloudfest.com/
