I watched JCS and absolutely loved it. I thought Brandon was wonderful, but of course I had always hoped it would be Adam. It was hard to watch and not feel sad, because I also believe that Adam was upset about it. I think this is why all his friends gave him extra love on his birthday. My friend told me near the end of December that Adam had the Judas part. When January was nearly ended without any word, I asked her again. She said it was now up in the air. At some point in between, something changed. I mentioned it today, and she said she had no other info. There have been layoffs at WMG. I have a theory. I think maybe Lin-Manuel Miranda contacted Andrew L Webber and pimped Brandon. I noticed that he had been kissing ALW's ass on social media and that Lin's presence was in the air surrounding the production this last week. Just a hunch. This makes sense, possibly. I think Adam was a heavy favorite for the role and then someone brought Brandon in. To add, Brandon was amazing and is probably a stronger actor at this point in time.

But I think there had to be other factors involved. Lin would have to have known the part was available in order to pimp someone. Which means he knew Adam no longer had the part, for whatever reason. I don’t think he would try to take away a part from someone who was already cast. In fact I’m sure of that.

From everything I have been reading, Brandon stole the show and people are predicting he is gonna be a huge star now. Like it didn't even matter that he didn't get top billing. That could have been Adam.

I can't imagine that Adam was kicked after he had already been cast...no...not that mean and spiteful things don't happen in show biz but still... to me Patti made a very good guess that rehearsals didn't start early enough before Adam went on tour with Queen and without even that bit of rehearsal it was unduable...just to bring it up again:Adam did also like the tweet from the fan who said he can't be everywhere, he would need a clone...often things have more than one reason...who knows... we can quite surly say Adam would have wanted to play the part...Judas was the only one shimmering lol...gay undertone or not...

I've been watching JCS online. A very good production! Works much better than some of the other live musicals on TV that I have seen. Congrats to them all.
Yes, I am still sour grapes about Adam not being involved. I think he would have blown everyone away in the role. Some wonder if he could have handled the acting, but I don't. He totally immerses himself in songs when he performs, and is completely believable. I think he would have been a compelling, brooding presence, and when he opened his mouth to sing, would have pulled all eyes and ears toward himself. Yes, Brandon was good. Adam would have been extraordinary.
As to Legend, he just doesn't work in the role for me. He doesn't have the gravitas for it acting wise, or vocally. His falsetto is particularly jarring and, IMO, does not fit the intent of the lyrics or music. I actually stopped watching after about a half hour. For Legend fans, I am sure this was thrilling and wonderful. For me, not so much.
I, too, believe Adam was originally slated to take on the role of Judas. What happened I can only guess. I still believe if Adam wanted to do it, and they wanted him to, the timing could have been worked out. I suspect, from the marginal way they promoted the Judas role, that Adam would not agree to be so marginalized. He may have wanted, if not equal billing, at least a featured spot. I mean, Alice Cooper was promoted more than Brandon, and Cooper had a minor role. I suspect, as I commented much earlier, that Legend did not want to be so thoroughly overshadowed, vocally, as he would have been with Adam chewing up the scenery and shaking the rafters with his voice.
I am sad I did not get to see and hear Adam in the production. Ah, well. I still have more Queen + Adam Lambert.
