I haven't seen the Beyoncé production at Coachella. But the New York Times review speaks to the cultural impact of the performance and how it was not the usual festival performance staying close to the commercial expectations. That particular NYT critic is usually NASTY ,so his love for this Beyonce spectacle, is not like him.As far as Beyonce ,I have never been a fan so no matter how many dancers, band people or how big the spectacle I'm still not a big fan.. I like that she is bringing in American black history and that she a feminist.. I also like that she goes her own way. As far as her voice,It's good but it still doesn't touch me. I guess I'm very much in the minority .Adam touches my soul... he makes me feel and he doesn't need anything ,but to stand on an empty stage and singI agree. A stage full of dancers is like a prop. There are not that many who can bring the house down with a voice and showmanship and a band. Adam is one who can. Do what you do best and excel at and let the dancers dance away around those who can't. Adam has some smooth dance moves and love when he throws them in. Beyoncé's whole act, as good as it is, revolves around her dancing with many backing her up. When Adam has tried to do that it did not work for him like it does the divas. Or the Chris Browns and Derulo's who mostly show their dance talent in a performance. AMA, Diva ? where Adam did Madonna and some other group/dance/singing. He did not bring the house down either time. Too focused on trying to do the dance/pop routines like everyone else. Neither showed the public what he could really do, imo. You either run around the stage trying to keep up with trained dancers (if dancing is not your greatest talent) or you throw in a few awkward moves, like Selena, and show that you can't keep up. It really becomes all about how great your dancers are. I find it boring and less creative and they all start to look the same. Adam is tall, handsome, sexy and a rock star with a voice and showmanship unmatched. He can get everyone talking and singing his praises without dancers taking center stage or doing acrobatic routines. He stands out and has no need to blend in with the crowd and do what the others do. Probably the reason he rarely tries to take the route that so many others can't perform without.

JMO. Beyonce's show was stellar. The theme was Black traditions, such as Marching band, dancers, Black Anthem and her own personal history, heartbreak, pain and disappointment. The major message was about women and having belief in oneself and being true to yourself. "A lil sweat doesnt hurt nobody". This was her own creativity on display and her music. This was a person who cancelled performing at Coachella last year and had twins. Not to mention the 3 months of 11 hours days to rehearse in order to present this show. I have not been a fan of hers, but acknowledging the scope of her show, doesn't take anything away from anyone else. To be the first Black woman headliner was so very important to her and she showed up. So I applaud her vision and creativity and the way she presented her voice and her music. Because Beyonce worked for that show and as one review said out-danced and out-sang everyone on that stage and never missed a step. I particularly like that everyone on the production signed a NDA and that nothing leaked except the 100 dancers part a few days before the show. Beyonce did herself proud and other women proud and I see someone who delivered that message with so many nods and themes. I don't see much to pick apart because nothing is preventing anyone else from doing the same. All artists present the show they want and Beyonce did the same.

Beyonce is amazing! IMO, if Adam was able to play arenas and stadiums he’d be doing the same thing!! Dancers, orchestra, huge set, the whole thing!! You know he’d want all the bells and whistles he could afford! I agree. The only thing more I would wish for is that Beyonce had sung more big voice power ballads - her voice is amazing when it soars! But then I always wish Adam would sing more power ballads too.

Coachella isn’t the setting for power ballads. It’s a big party. She does ballads in her normal concerts though.

But I still wish. One of my favorites from her concert DVDs is Bey's performance of Ava Maria!

Pattihum, I think you are exactly right. If Adam could fill arenas with all the bells and whistles and a lot of dancers and props and staging, I think he would do it. And he'd dance his ass off every second. He loves a big show!
