Adam was out at the beginning of his career and before he had anything on the radio. And with all the publicity about his sexuality, while on Idol, I doubt there were too many who did not know. It was talked about on tv and in the media even if not on the actual show. Hell, people were encouraging people to vote against him because he was gay. But at this point in his career, I don't think he has to prove anything to anyone. He is who he is and has said as much. And he is a great role model for his community. I just want his music to get great exposure based on his enormous talent. I think he has earned that without any qualifications like the "best gay pop or rock artist." Many of the out singers are not doing that great now. Even Sam seems to be struggling some. It is really unsettling that even with so many out artists, they are not making much progress with radio. The only one doing really well is Halsey. And to me, she is more like Adam. She speaks her mind when needed and represents her community well. But she is not trying so hard to be shocking and show how out there she is. She lets her talent and success do the talking. Everyone knows who she is and her sexuality is not hidden nor is it there for anyone's entertainment. And don't care who else could be the Queen frontman cause Adam is the one they chose. I am not sure where this conversation is headed -- but I can't imagine any living performer being better with Brian and Roger at bringing Queen's music into the 21st century. And after 7 years, it seems like they must be very happy with Adam. *** JMHO Sam Smith's problem is his followup album was not so good and only had 1 hit single on it. There was almost no chance he could replicate In the Lonely Hour. Halsey has done OK in some markets -- but I don't think she is much like Adam except she is very direct. Halsey has a #1 US album with decent sales with a #5 US hit single -- but her success has been pretty much limited to the US, Canada, and Australia. So even though she is doing OK on US radio, she has not broken through in Europe. I honestly think that we are finally getting to a point where it can be about the music.

Urie and Mika are outstanding vocalists. Not that I think they possess Adams richness and tone imo. But Adam brings other qualities his detractors just don't consider as important. ITs not just the singing. Freddie was prob the greatest vocalist of all time. But it was not just that. He had great stage presence, he was very charismatic. Had a great sense of humor. Adam has all these qualities. He also has a chemistry with Brian and Roger you just can't manufacture. Hence why their was no one else for Brian and Roger. All respect to vocalists like Brendon Urie, Mika, Martel e.t.c. Their is no one in the music scene today who could of done what Adam did with Queen in 2012 in Kiev in front of 100k plus crowd. It was just instant. It was instant in 2009 on idol. It was then instant in 2013 at IHR. And it has just evolved since then. Adam is always on the edge, he lives his life like that. He is so polarizing, particularly to the rock community. But for the few that dislike Adam, their is also thousands, millions more that love him. Freddie was not the greatest vocalist of all time. But he was an excellent vocalist and a powerful performer. He certainly was one of the greatest rock frontmen ever. He was very different from Adam. I think Adam might be the greatest pop frontman of all time. It is just a very different take on the music. Stone Cold Crazy was written by Freddie for his voice -- Adam is OK on that song. But many of the Brian May song were not written for Freddie's voice and are better sung by Adam. TSMGO, WWTLF, Save Me for example. There are a few Freddie songs that I think Adam are more suited to -- for example, CLTGL and GDML. You forgot about the EMAs in 2011. That was actually the essential moment.

And when I said like Adam, I meant she is not trying too hard to be shocking and neither is he, imo. She is who she is.

Oh yes Emas 2011 how could I forget haha. Who in your view was the greatest vocalist ever. I always assumed Freddie. But I also think Jeff Buckely prob belongs in that same class. Adam prob is the greatest pop frontman of all time. I think Adam does WWTLF, TSMGO, Save Me e.t.c. MY point was that. While their are great vocalists out their. I am not sure they could of elevated Queen to the highest lvl they hav been since the 80s. I am sure Brian or Roger did not expect to be doing a Queen Residency in Vegas in 2018.

I think you are asking an impossible question. How do you possibly define or quantify "greatest vocalist?" What characteristics? I would think that a great rock vocalist would be defined differently from a great country vocalist or a great opera vocalist, wouldn't it? And are you talking thruout time? Since the 20th century? Since the 16th century? Some characteristics that quickly come to mind are *tonal quality (but what is the best tone? bright? dark? pure? raspy? breathy? rich? sharp?) * consistency of tone thruout their vocal range; no discernable breaks in the sound * smooth transitions between registers * ability to modify sound to fit the genre and emotional quality of the song * control of vibrato and ability to modify it to fit the song *flexibility; able to move accurately and quickly up and down the scales and jump between intervals *breath support to sustain long phrases and maintain tone * clear articulation * resonance * ability to sing with others and blend well * ability to modify delivery to portray the emotional content of the song, to make the audience feel * usable range * accuracy of pitch (goes without saying, but not so much with pop singers and auto-tune) * consistency of performance; excellence every time, in every situation If you ask someone else, their list might be quite different from mine.

Thank you cassie I too think it is hard to define what makes someone be a better vocalist than others. Can one compare for example Freddie to Enrico Caruso - if Caruso sang a rock song how would he sound. I disagree with many on that range plays much into what makes someone a great vocalist. I hated what Axl Rose did with a Queen song even if he has 5 octaves. I read somewhere that Whitney Houston and Luciano Pavarotti had each range of 2 octaves plus semitones Adam has 3 octaves & semitones (I dont remember precise numbers) yet all 3 of them are outstanding vocalists. And of course it is always more than just the voice & even ability to sing which makes up a "full package" performer. I too can't name someone else who can do with Queen songs what Adam does from male singers. Maybe Matt Bellamy would come close vocally but Im not sure about the performance/showmanship. I like both Matt's (Muse) version of Feeling good and Adam's as I do Starlight. Wish Matt would have done a Queen cover to have a song to compare but I'd probably love both I agree with Adam that both Lady Gaga & Pink would pull it off though vocally & performance-wise. I haven't yet seen Muse live so its hard for me to imagine how it woud be like if Muse did a Queen cover

Not everyone, namely SS. Was as comfortable, or as brave as Adam was. To come out to the public right off the bat. Take Adams performance at the Amas in 2009 for instance. He diddn't do it for some self-Gratifying reason. IT was not selfish. He was making an artistic statement. And be damned to any mainstream acceptance he might of lost in the states. That is what drew me to Adam in 2009. I thought hell that was Bold. I think Adam opened the door, and it made it alot easier for mainstream LGBT artists. Like Sam, and Troy e.t.c. But their is no right or wrong way to do it. Adam's balls of steel AMA performance was the thing that earned my eternal devotion. The kiss was a pure rock and roll moment, a shining improv amid an over-choreographed mess. I never saw Queen with Freddie and have only seen some vids of them. He and Adam are very different but there is an underlying spark, a spirit that feels consistent between them. The shameless showmanship and fearless holding of the space (however big). Adam always had the voice to carry the songs, but during this latest tour it's like his persona has really grown into his voice. Who else male performer wise could do what Adam does (because while it's about the voice it's not just about the voice)? No one I can think of, but back to the first point. They would need the voice but also balls of steel.

Such great performers and musicians, all of them. Matt is a great singer too. And the whole design of the show, the experience, is almost like no other. I think Matt is pretty attractive as well. He is the whole package too, for me, definitely, but in a very different way from Adam. For a Queen song I would not choose Matt Bellamy, because you need a certain lightness, even in the most serious songs. You need to be able to make it about you, about what your feeling is and what you want to audience to feel when singing the song. I admire Matt greatly, but I don't see him singing Queen in a way that I would like it. Unless maybe if he would really make it his own, and make a different song of it. It would be interesting!
