An important factor that determines a singer's success imo, is the listeners' perception of them. It's been mentioned here plenty of times that people's perception of Adam as a TV singing competition alum is probably hindering his radio success. Singing with Queen helps solidify his reputation as one of the best voices in the world. Now that that's done, another way of making people take him more seriously is by fixing his image as a song writer. As unjustified as it is that people don't think much of someone who's "just" a singer (unless the singer is a really hot woman...), people would take him more seriously if they know he does write. I wonder if making him a judge in that song writing competition is his management way of achieving just that.

That seems to be important in today's music scene. But I keep thinking that great and popular artist like Michael Jackson, and older singers like Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett never wrote their music and it was never a prerequisite to be considered in their popularity. It was all about how they were able to grab the audience with their talent and showmanship. They got great songs from good songwriters and they made these songs their own. It certainly didn't hurt their popularity. I guess I just don't give TWO FUX if a song I hear was written by the person singing. It is all about liking what I am hearing.
