Ask 10 people on the street what tv show they were on, then ask them what tv show Adam Lambert was on. #1 show for years in world's largest country makes a difference. Not sure I understand. So it's because American Idol was more known than X Factor or Sing Off is why Adam doesn't get radio play? Are you saying those other acts are hugely successful and/or get radio play because people don't know they came from a TV talent show? For some reason, being on a singing show is a blessing for some and a curse for others. For artists with wide appeal like Kelly and Carrie, being on Idol has carried no stigma. But for someone kind of outside the norm, it seems to matter more. Sometimes fans discover an artist and decide to like them way before they ever knew the artist was on a singing show. By that time the fans like them anyway. But some listeners ARE prejudiced against singing show contestants. We heard quite a bit of that reaction in the UK when Adam first started touring with Queen. Some UK Queen fans really sneered at Adam, claiming that he must be inferior because he was on Idol. Some people still think that those shows are just a way to "cheat" for way to fame without paying your dues. As for the other acts in the UK who were on those shows and made it big anyway, who knows why some acts are accepted and other are not. Pentatonix is mainstream and easily acceptable. Others are, too. Adam is left of center. We love him for that. Why some acts "click" and others don't is a mystery. You'd think Adam's history on AI would be old news by now and that it wouldn't matter.

You'd think Adam's history on AI would be old news by now and that it wouldn't matter. And just to add, I don't think Adam's music is "inferior" to anyone else's in his genre. There are some even in his fandom who have said that. It's simply not true, IMO. The lack of breakthrough on radio is still a murky issue. Adam is well-liked as a person by radio peeps. And his songs are often praised by music reviews in major publications. Why so little radio play? It takes more than just a song being "good." It has to be pushed hard by promo staff who use ALL forms of media available to convince radio stations to play a song. Good radio may be less important than it used to be, but it's still important and it still labels a top song as a hit.
