"cassie Then, this boy pauses in the performance to show fealty to rock royalty in Brian and Freddie. Says how honored and privileged he is to share the stage with them. That's right. I give him credit for recognizing their legacy. And then, he pays homage to Freddie, himself. Acknowledges that no one can replace him or be anything like him. Freddie will always have a singular place in the history of rock. Damned straight. This kid gets it. He is a fan, too. He shows humility and respect. He wants to celebrate the music of this great band with us.
Hell, yes! That I can get on board with. This is an amazing spectacle of a show, worthy of Queen's legend. And, damn! That boy can sing his face off. The music engulfs me and I let it, willingly. For a moment, I am back in my days of youth. Sharing an extraordinary experience with 15,000 other folks. What a fantastic night!"
Great post!
This is the reason Adam does it I think.
I wrote earlier that this is what gets Queen fans who came to the show on Adam's side.
The wife of an italian fan, they were sitting behind us, was translating to her husband what Adam was saying during his speech and he immediately told her that Adam is an amazing singer himself. Many Queen fans react to Adam's speech by voicing "but he is a great singer".
Because he showed this humble side of himself which they don't know that he is so in real life...they don't watch Adams interviews. It might seem from the way Adam is on stage, campy & over the top, that he is so pompous in real life too. Which he isn't.
And showing this humble side of himself, it allows Adam to do all the crazy stuff like the Bicycle Race etc without people thinking " Oh no,not another Freddie imitator" Now they know that he does this on purpose. As a tribute to Freddie and for fun. To entertain.
