I agree, the Freddie speech gives all fans permission to embrace what Adam is doing. To me, wearing the crown at the end is a symbol of successful negotiations, they've reached an agreement to celebrate all that is Queen, and that includes Adam Lambert. I remember all the angst here about that crown but hardly saw any of that in attendee twitters etc. So I like that description. Negotiated settlement. And now he's adding the line about doing this for six years already, lol.

I understand the different opinions about the necessity of the speech and obviously Adam thinks it is something he needs to do. Yet there have been forever Freddie fans and media who have attended several shows and have heard Adam's speech. Yet they still bless us all with the he is not Freddie (duh) and then go on to explain what he is lacking in their opinion. Sigh! I wish someone would actually talk to people attending (who were not fans before) and let them tell us if the speech allowed them to enjoy the show or was it Adam's performance that won them over. I still think it is Adam's charismatic, vocally great performance and showmanship that carries the most weight. In my opinion, he is just that good as the Queen frontman. When Adam first appeared with Queen at the EMA's there was no speech. When he performed in front of millions in Ukraine there was no speech. When he blew the roof off the place at the iheart Festival there was no speech. In every single case everyone was talking and raving about Adam. What changed? The rantings of a few disgruntle fans who will never come around and want Queen retired without Freddie? Would Paul Rogers giving the same speech make everyone think he is suddenly a great replacement?

The other thing I always do is imagine if Adam had formed a band straight after Idol and thirty years later god forbid something happened to him, how would his fans feel having someone take his place, especially if the reviews were as stellar as the QAL one's have been. While not quite the same situation, I remember my own feelings when Nate Ruess and FUN. wasted a Somebody To Love of the precious time QAL had at the Iheartradio music festival in Las Vegas. But then Nate had the humility to announce Adam's return with "...And the best singer that I know..." and all was forgiven!
