Nonessential ?!?! Where is my GoT meme that I used on Talon ... oh, here it is Oops, LindaG23, explanation needed ... only meant to say that parts of the post were non-essential to my response, not that the original post was non-essential! My bad!! Totally and completely just kidding. It is sort of in the vein of a discussion I had with my step-mother recently who had an MRI to check for possible brain damage. With a straight face she proudly informed me that the neurologist had checked her brain and told her there was nothing there. I nearly fell off my chair laughing. It took her a minute but then she laughed too. I just might have a very weird sense of humor.

My bet is Dimitrius is over the moon with all the press he is getting for performing with Adam. I know we don't follow all the other acts, but my guess is this is some of the best coverage. It may be some of the best press anyone who finished #10 on Idol has ever gotten.

What is strange is that in a 3-hour finale they could not find time for last year's winner to perform her new single (which is in the Top 40) to promote her just released album.
So, why wasn't Maddie Poppe invited to perform? Variety cites an inside source saying that when the Season 16 winner reached out to inquire about performing, she was told the entire finale was booked. The news was surely surprising, as it was the first time in American Idol history the prior season's champ didn't perform in the finale. The news was said to be especially devastating to Poppe, who had timed the release of her album to drop days before the finale.
It is not the first time that a winner has failed to perform on the finale. Lee Dewyze, Caleb and maybe others but I'm too lazy to look it up. But without knowing anything here is my take. Idol was getting ready to crown and new winner. Maddie and her team decided to wait to release her album just before the finale. She wanted to come on and sing her single (she has had 3 released that went nowhere) and steal the thunder for her album debut. And someone said NO. This night is for the new winner and his single sits at #2 on itunes so they were correct. She could have probably been on earlier in the season, to sing her song, and promote her album if they had asked. Her team may have had plans to give her the big attention on the finale but other's had other plans. She has had a year and this night was for a new winner. In the past, when the previous winner performed on the finale, they already had a hit and their albums had already been released long before that. A performance was something extra but not for the purpose of a debut album for a winner from the previous year. They gambled and they lost.

Speaking of singles off Adam's albums did anyone else like By The Rules and Map? I'm not a pop fan at all and Adam is the only pop artist I really listen to and there's some songs I don't really like but those two really caught my attention and By The Rules especially I felt could have been a hit. I'm no expert on what makes a hit though but I found it really catchy. Oh yes those two were really catchy.

It reminds me of the first time Adam performed Ghost Town on Ellen. It did not hit the sweet spot. Other performances after were so much better. But this time, the Ellen performance was recorded before Idol so he wouldn't have a chance to review his Idol performance and make adjustments. But who knows, it may still be really good. Or maybe the next time we will see some adjustments? But I really like the vibe and I'm thrilled with the change of direction. It does make you wonder what his song choice would have been if he had not fallen in love (glad he did)? I hope I won't get slammed for this, but my bet is "Feel Something" would have blown everyone off that Idol stage just as "Believe" did. Valid thought. I love NE and some may argue now that it is a better song than FS - I love them both - but I agree that "Feel Something" might have tied in more cohesively with the vulnerability and the sheer beauty of "Believe". Darn it, Adam is in love and that may have changed a few things... We just need to roll with it and celebrate Adam the way he dishes things out. I agree a valid thought -- but I do not agree (just my opinion). It would be hard for any new song to have the effect of a song people know as well as "Believe" changed from a Disco romp into a soul aching ballad. Or even to have a new song match the power of the Queen songs we know and love, like BoRhap.
"Feel Something" is a nice gospel ballad with really sad lyrics, and no hook. Really not suitable as a single. I think Adam wisely made that a buzz track, not a lead single. It also seems very much like "yesterday" to me. Something he has moved past now that he found somebody to love.
"New Eyes" is now up to #65 on iTunes, and has over 2 million YT views. It is starting to prove itself.

I have not followed Idol for years but seems like something fell apart after the first 3 weeks of the season -- so that lines up to the album release date.
ETA Also I think Lane's single being #2 on iTunes is help lift up Adam's track.

A Canadian Music critic whose review was Naked Love was the best song on that album. I always thought his opinion might have been the repetitive earworm effect. I liked Naked Love ..etc etc 😳🤗😁 I also like Naked Love. but I recall it did not test well as a single.
Just to clarify...I liked Naked Love... but did not Love ...love it so much as to be the lead single. Honestly I had a hard time with a jump out stand out for that album. Still intestesting that was "the song" for the music critic.

Maddie performed during Disney week and instead of singing one of her songs sang a Disney song with her boyfriend (supposedly an idol contestant from last year too). She leaked before any official word that there was not going to be an Idol tour this year. She complained on her social media accounts that when she was on before that Ryan didn't plug her album. At some point during this she stopped tweet streaming during the shows and started complaining about being left out. And so they gave her speaking time during the final and what did she say about the single when asked "I didn't write most of it". She has no savvy.

I just can't wait to see what's on the rest of the album...I'd love if we get a slow trickle of singles! I have ALWAYS wanted a slow trickle of singles! One new song a month for a year would be FABULOUS! Yes, I don't need an album all at once - what's to look forward to after that? New music, more new music, even more new music - yeah I like it.
