I think Michelle's speech was great. To me, she made the most important point of all. VOTE! It's our most important POWER in this country! People die for right to vote throughout the world. DO IT! And I agree with her that a vote for a third party candidate really doesn't help anyone. Do it if you want to, but your vote will not have the impact you want it to have. We are in for a very bumpy couple of months. Strap on your seatbelts, everyone.

I didn't watch the Dem convention. I did't even know it was on. I spent my night watching the NBA playoffs. My team isn't playing Last year was their 5th straight year going to the finals (winning 3) but this year they were the worst team, 30th out of 30. Maybe next year. I've decided not to absentee vote, not with T trying to de-fund the Post Office regarding absentee ballots. So I'm taking my walker (with a seat), my mask. my gloves and I'm going to early vote for Biden on October 14!!! I may even get my son to go. This election is just too important not to vote. READY TO RUN!!!

Or worse, it will have the opposite impact from what you would want it to have. I find it hard to believe that, say, the Bernie Bros who voted third party in 2016 wanted to see the changes that have taken place over 45's term in office. As long as we have to deal with the electoral college, protest voting is downright dangerous. A 3rd party vote is, essentially, a vote for 45. If that's what you want to do, you have that right, but don't do it thinking your ~purity is more important than the fate of the country. It's a big reason I was impressed with Bernie's speech as well. I'm sure he recognizes that the protest votes from his followers in 2016 likely had an impact on the election out of all proportion to their actual numbers, and he took pains to convince them not to go down that road again.

OK, going to pocke in a Hornets nest but oh well. To make things clear: i admire Michelle, she is a outstanding orator, she's intelligent, diginified and i repsect her BIG TIME. One can only Imagine, what the years at the White House meant for her. Two things irked me ALOT in her speach: first the "lesser evelism" was startling and eerily reminicend of 2016. With someone like in the White House HOW on earth, for all that's good can the democrats not come up with more of a reason or better reasons to be voted for than "we're Not as Bad as /we're better than ". Also the blatantly clear shame and blame to third party voters just pushes my buttons to absolutely NO end! OK, now going to run for the Hills and hide out.🤐 There is no reason to run for the hills, but I think it is important to understand that Germany has a very different system of government. Parliamentary democracy operates such that multiple parties can elect local representatives to national government and if no party has a majority, they can exercise their local power to negotiate preferred outcomes with other parties even going as far as to influence who is the party leader. National leadership, such as the country's President, is not voted for directly and in a coalition government is still somewhat beholden to other parties. This gives third party voters some hope that their political positions will have influence and can encourage change. Merkel is beholden to her coalition. If you grew up in this system then it is not unreasonable to approve of building power as a smaller party by voting and using that power to influence national policy. But, the US president, which is a very powerful position, is not chosen this way and our country is very strongly two party. Third party votes, therefore, more often than not, are spoiler Presidential votes. When a third party strongly favors one side of the political spectrum or the other, but is small in comparison to the dominant party, then a third party vote is likely to have the opposite outcome and get the opposition President elected. This can be devastating if the elected President is completely opposed to the third party's platforms and initiatives. A Green party vote in 2016 was essentially a vote for 45 and his climate policy has been devastating. The best scenario for a third party in the US system is to exercise their voting power in Congress or at state and local level. AOC is a perfect example. But for President, a third party vote is best thought of as a pre-coalition vote. Who would your party likely combine with to form a national government. Vote for the leader of that party in advance and directly for preferred down ballot candidates. marionm , I hope I don't sound too pendantic.

For me, Michelle Obama's speech was one of many highlights. Those who love her will surely continue to do so and follow here lead, yet I was thinking that even some of the Republicans watching should come around and see the light. There were many powerful moments and Michelle concluded beautifully. I have never fully watched a Democratic Convention but the two hours were affirming, uplifting, and powerful. I will be back as much as I can either by watching the stream or the broadcast from 9-11pm. Hopefully in unison we can save democracy and the soul of this nation.
I can not wait to listen to Kamala speak tomorrow!!! Love her style.

Exactly. You made the point about the dangers of third party voting much more strongly than I did, and I' m very glad you did it. This election is SO important, we can't afford to just play around with minor candidates, regardless of how much we may like them. Every single votes must really count this time around. The united voice has to be powerful. We can't split it up. I am so sorry that the mail-in voting issue is such a mess. It shouldn't be. I am choosing to vote at my regular polling place, not for any political reason, but because it is literally 90 seconds from my house. I'll wear my mask and be just fine. The Post Office should not be a political football that jeopardizes our right to vote in an easy, effective way.

READY TO RUN!!!Our teams got well acquainted last June, I believe, haha! I’m sure the Warriors will do much better next season with Steph and Klay healthy. What the season might actually look like remains to be seen. As for the Convention, Day 1 - I enjoyed listening to John Kasich because he’s the living proof it is possible to have “your beliefs” and still not be OK with and condone the clown show currently going on in the White House and all it represents.
