Thanks teri63 for your recap. My first of 3 will be tomorrow in Philly so am curious about it all live. I like all the overheard comments. Why did your friend get into Queen now? Just curious? I'm really not sure! She has also just in the past couple of years gotten into The Eagles. I actually did ask her that same question back a couple months ago when she first declared her new love of Queen when her shuffling IPod landed on Bohemian Rhapsody (which prompted me to tell her about Adam's touring with them and to show her the IHeart performance). She said she'd always liked some of their songs but has just recently really been listening to them, checking out some album tracks with which she wasn't familiar. I've known her for 21 years, having met when our oldest kids were 3, and she was never really "into" specific music aside from whatever was popular on the radio at a given time; I'm guess that now that her kids are grown and she has more time for herself, she's exploring her musical tastes. Have fun in Philly!!!! What are the other two shows you will be seeing?

Hi, I'm back from a long and amazing weekend in Detroit and Toronto and posted some of my impressions in the Toronto thread. I'm an avid people-watcher, so they are actually mostly impressions of some of the people sitting around my husband and me. These were my last two Q+A concerts, so I'm quite sad they are over but grateful that I had the experience. I'm also grateful to all the Adam and Queen fans who have been sharing their astounding pictures and videos. My husband tried taking video at the Toronto show, where we had our closest seats. He had asked the very sweet venue guard by our section if he thought his very small video camera would be allowed, and the man said he didn't think it would be a problem. Security had other ideas, though, lol! Anyway, thank you again to those of you who have been sharing your thoughts, pictures and videos! adamtopia.com/thread/2419/13-concert-thread-toronto-canada?page=22&scrollTo=520176

Hi, I just got back from a long weekend in QAL heaven. I attended both the Detroit and Toronto shows, and since both have already been recapped beautifully and in a more timely fashion by others, I hope it’s OK to lump my general impressions of both together in one post!
My husband and I had a great view for both shows: in Detroit we sat in a lower-level side section (115) 9 rows back from the floor and in Toronto we sat in the front row of a lower level side section (118) even with the thrust stage. We were pretty close in Toronto—so close we could clearly see Adam’s and Brian’s facial expressions—but I was equally fond of the seats further back, as they afforded a wonderful full view of the stage and a feeling of being immersed in the crowd. The sound was fantastic for both shows, and the people surrounding us were equally enthusiastic. The section we were in at The Palace tended to be more sitters than standers (I am a stander but sat a lot for this show so as not to block people’s views), but they were no less “into” it. There were seat dancers, jubilant screamers and smiles all around us. Sitting next to me was a girl probably somewhere in her early-to-mid twenties. She was with her father, and both were big Queen fans. Prior to the start of the concert, the girl asked me if we were Queen fans, and I said, yes, and also big Adam Lambert fans. She said she wasn’t very familiar with Adam but had heard he was good. She was smiling and cheering throughout the first few songs, and then after “Somebody to Love” turned to me and said, “I think I’m going to cry. Adam is fantastic!” Watching this young Queen fan “discover” and appreciate Adam made ME want to cry!
Behind us at the Toronto show were two men, probably in their 40’s, who were devoted Queen fans and could be overheard talking about a Queen show they’d seen together while Freddie was still alive. They were very skeptical of Adam stepping into those shoes and made a couple snarky comments about his being on American Idol. I kept my mouth shut, but my ears were on full alert to hear how they reacted throughout the concert. After just a couple songs, one of them in particular kept going on and on about what a fantastic job Adam was doing, how he had a great voice and showmanship. The other guy was a lot more reserved in his judgment, and while his friend kept jumping up and clapping, he remained seated and a little stoic. I really got the feeling he wasn’t as impressed, but then toward the end, he started jumping up to join his enthusiastic friend. As the concert ended and they collected themselves to leave, they were both discussing how amazing the concert was. I heard one of them say (and the other readily agree) that he could totally understand why Brian and Roger wanted to tour with Adam.
One other note is that I had sold a couple extra tickets I had for the Detroit show to a Queen fan friend and her husband. Their tickets weren’t with ours, but we shared a ride to and from the concert. My friend is actually a newer Queen fan; she’d grown up knowing their songs but has only recently, in her 50’s, really gotten into them. She is a Queen song fan, I guess I would say, but not really into the individuals making up the band. She wasn’t particularly familiar with Adam, either. She doesn’t watch Idol, so the only time she’d ever really seen anything he’d done was a couple months ago when I showed her a YouTube from the IHeart performance. Both she and her husband really enjoyed the concert and both thought Adam was totally amazing. Their only criticism was that they felt the show really lost momentum after Adam’s first long break. My friend left the show actually kind of disappointed. She said she thought the concert started out so strong and energetic with Adam actually feeling like the front man of Queen, but then never regained momentum after the first break. I didn’t really see it that way, but it’s always interesting to hear other people’s impressions. At any rate, she said she’d love to accompany me to any future Adam concerts, so AOBTD!
Hopefully, a good percentage of these people who are just discovering Adam through this affiliation with Queen will give him a listen in his future solo endeavors. He’s obviously not going to be everyone’s cuppa when he’s doing his own thing, but I can’t help but think this experience will garner him some new real fans he likely otherwise wouldn’t have had and, if nothing else, some increased credibility and respect for his talents.

Cassie, I adore your post! I also agree with rama that Adam has gained so much respect from this tour. That is so invaluable in helping to erase any stigma the Idol tagline has attached to him. I posted this before after the Chicago show that I had taken along my ultra rock-snob, anti-American Idol sister who had always kind of smirked at my Adam adoration. She's no longer smirking. She was amazed by his live voice, how it filled the stadium, and how he authentically rocked out. She also thought he looked fantastic. She won't automatically become an Adam fan, but, unlike before her Queenbert experience, I'm pretty confident she will now judge Adam's songs with a new ear and without her former anti-talent show bias. I'm excited to be going to Detroit tomorrow, and I sold extra tickets I had to a neighbor who has just recently gotten into Queen. She's not very familiar with Adam, but a few weeks ago I showed her the IHeart YouTubes, and she thought he was amazing. I can't wait to hear her impressions of the show!

It's not just the song... It's that golden song/or songs that come maybe once in a lifetime...Like Whitney Houston.. I will Always love You.. a signature song.. Dolly Parton wrote it ,but Whitney made it Hers...Queen Has many signature songs. I know Adam can sing all types of music and better than anyone else..but Adam's voice is deserving of historic melodys. It's always the songs that make history and last from one generation to another.. That glorious voice of Adams must be preserved though epic music.Think of all the great music that lasted ,it was through the words and music, not necessarily the vocals...What moves us ,what do we relate to ,what makes us remember when.. like I sometimes say to my husband. You love me? I need the words and the music That. I love Adam's albums (and everything else that he sings, for that matter) - the upbeat songs are fun, the slower songs are beautiful. But they're not EPIC, like Who Wants to Live Forever or The Show Must Go On (or I Will Always Love You). His talent deserves that high caliber of songwriting. This is an interesting discussion, and I've often thought about how songs used to reach that "epic" status but how they just don't seem to do that anymore. With changes in radio and technological advances that allow us to consume music in myriad ways, songs are not given the same intense, single-focus treatment they used to get that propelled them to become classic songs that survived generations. Back in the day, radio was the only place we could hear songs until we purchased the album (or 8-track or cassette). Excited listeners would call in to request the songs they liked most, and those songs that were truly most popular got played more by virtue of more requests. Popular songs played for months, and "epic" tunes lived on and are still regularly rotated today on classic stations. I really don't know much about the ins and outs of today's music industry, but even those songs that at the time of popularity seem like game-changers for their artists seem to just become occasionally heard, faint memories even a year or so later. Back in the day, the popularity of Adele's "Someone Like You" or Lady Gaga's "Poker Face," for example, would have propelled them into "classic" territory, but due to the changes in radio, they have been put on the back shelf alongside every other song that isn't on the allowed current limited rotation of tunes. In reference to Adam, I guess what I'm trying to say is that while he definitely needs a hit song, I don't really think songs that everyone knows for generations to come exist anymore. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I just don't see it happening. With his talent, though, and hopefully some hits and continued critical acclaim for his music, acting, hosting and all the other gifts he seems to possess, I truly think he is well positioned to become one of the artist names associated with this generation.

I wonder if everyone has developed some extra love towards some songs and less towards others now that we've been thru several concerts?
I was listening to the stream last night and I surprised myself by realizing that I certainly have ...
My hands down favorite at the moment is KQ, couch and all...just so much fun! WWTLF is a close contender for totally different reasons of course, no need to explain...Love Kills and TSMGO are almost in the same bucket. On the tail end - I can be very happy not hearing FBG ever again...Something about the song is off for me, not sure what it is (and its the song, not delivery)... The whole "hard rock" beginning is not my cup of tea at all, so Now I'm Here and Stone Cold Crazy are still lagging for me... Never liked Radio Gaga and still don't...
I wonder if my perception will change as the tour progresses and I get my chance to experience it with my whole body!
Brian's solo is a separate category and some moments there are worship worthy IMO....
Would you like to share yours?
My favorites are the exact same as yours. I love "Now I'm Here" and "Stone Cold Crazy," though, but agree with you again on FBG and "Radio Gaga." In my not-a-favorite column, I would also have to put CLTCL. I think it's fun watching Adam perform it, but as a tune, it just doesn't appeal to me. The song I most miss in this tour is "I Want to Break Free." I love that song and adored watching Adam's joyful delivery of it.

I was scared to open the link after the earlier tweets, but hey it's not a bad review! IMO it's a good review. This IS a good review. From what this guy was saying on twitter last night, from him, this is like 5 Stars!! LOL! IMO, his biggest mistep is not loving Brian's guitar solo! WTF?! ??? After the guy's tweets last night, I was really expecting a scathing review, but I actually really enjoyed reading his impressions of the concert. They seemed to be very honest and well-thought-out; I didn't necessarily agree with him, but I respected the fact that although he's obviously not a fan of Adam or pop music (and can't seem to view Adam in any other genre but pop), he assessed each song and gave his opinion of each, with really just a few negative comments and quite a few kudos. Again, I didn't really agree with a few of his statements, but I thought he was being fair and true to his honest opinion, which is truly the job of a critic. This isn't like those couple other ridiculous negative "reviews" that have been posted in which the writers didn't even seem to have seen the whole concert and had obviously gone into the event with completely closed, already-made-up minds. In my mental list of good vs. bad reviews, this one goes into the "good" column.

Thanks, kryptoman, for your awesome review! It sounds like you had a blast. Thanks to everyone who has shared their experiences; it's so much fun to re(live) the concerts through others!

Thank you for the great recap, Q3, and to all the others who have posted their experiences! I was there and am still in post-concert bliss. I loved it all -- the energy of the crowd, the incredible vocals--all of it! It was simply amazing. I took my husband, sister and a close friend. None of them is a big Adam fan, although they are great sports and regularly put up with all of my fangirling. My husband and friend had both accompanied me to GNT shows, but my sister had never seen Adam live. She is a big fan of '70's and '80's rock and was more than a bit skeptical, I think, that Adam could pull off leading Queen without trying to pose Freddie. She has acknowledged that Adam has pipes but hasn't ever really taken him seriously as an artist, likely due to his Idol affiliation, and I believe she thought this concert might be a corny knock-off of a rock concert. Anyway, she looked amused at first by the visual theatrics of it all, but within a song or two she was really getting into it, and during "Who Wants to Live Forever," she actually looked pretty awe-struck. When it was over, she expressed that was very impressed with Adam's power and range and was appreciative of the fact that he paid tribute without copying or parodying. She loved the Brian and Roger solos and the video homages to Freddie. My husband and friend really enjoyed the show, too (I knew they would), but I was most nervous about taking my somewhat of a rock snob sister! I wouldn't say she's going to suddenly now be an Adam fan, but I do believe she's gained a new respect for him (as evidenced by the fact that she stood in line after the show to buy a tour shirt).
