gracefuladam what a wonderful idea -- and it just triggered a thought. 1in10 does a great job developing and funding programs in central Arizona -- many in the Phoenix metro area. Donations to local, community-based LGBT support and education organizations are probably the most effective and efficient way to really help teens. I have worked with some folks in Mississippi for years and there is really progress being made. Most importantly, many teens in need of support, allies, or immediate assistance have been helped. I went to find a link to a well-researched directory to post here with a suggestion that fans support organizations in their local community -- and surprisingly there is not a good directory. There are many local and regional directories -- Pacific Northwest, Vancouver BC area, South Florida. They are mostly organized so that teens in need can find them but not to inspire donations. If someone (or a few people) would be interested in helping to put together a list of local LGBT organizations, I will help screen the organizations so that we have only efficient, real non-profits, and will maintain a web directory. It would be great if this was not limited to the US. Thank you so much, Q3 for responding to my note. You may remember I DM'd with you about this last year on Planet Fierce and I have "gently" mentioned what we are doing at 1n10 at intervals on this site. ("planting seeds") I have a suggestion. There is a team of Adam fans that have contributed to what we are doing in Phoenix; we are partnering with the 1n10 Board and committees. We meet locally (and have global support). We have developed vision/mission, communication materials, have defined and completed actions (raised over $7,000 in donations and gifts for 1n10), are involved in various volunteer activities, etc. We now have experience and templates that we can share relative to aligning, "as Adam fans", with wonderful organizations like 1n10. In fact, we have done this with the thought of taking what we have learned over the past year and expanding to/sharing with other of Adam's fan communities. The name of the team is "Adam Lambert Inspired-Volunteerism Everywhere" (A.L.I.V.E.) The first big project is 1n10. We now have one year's worth of experience and a great "in progress" story to tell. And, a few minutes ago, one of the awesome young men on the 1n10 Board sent me a note which reads: "Just heard the new song by Adam Lambert-Outlaws of Love. Love it. It is all about acceptance." I will tell you why this makes me really smile - about this time last year the friends and colleagues on the 1n10 committees where talking about Lady Gaga and Katy Perry! It would be a great honor if a few people from this site could combine to discuss how we might really make a global impact, and use what we have been doing at 1n10 as a learning opportunity. One of the steps could include identifying local organizations (globally), such as you mentioned. As we learned in Phoenix, it takes a while to build momentum, so one step at a time works well, as we all are juggling family, jobs, our Adam obsession/love, our community work and life in general - in no particular order :-)

I have been blessed in my life to be an ally/advocate in the LGBTQ community for many years, both personally and professionally. I appreciate, as always, the sharing of stories on our site today, and the considerations that people make regarding what to share and not to share moment by moment in their lives. I determined early on that I was going to speak openly, honestly and consistently, allowing for a relative degree of tension regarding these issues and dilemmas. It was a "right of passage" in my family for my kids to take stands on these (and other inclusion) issues, especially on behalf of those not ready or able to speak on their own. As a result, we've been included at the level of the joy and the pain. I have also had the important experience of some dear colleagues and dearer friends "writing me off" for LGBTQ related stands that I take. For me, that is a measurement of my effectiveness, painful though it has been. I have no regrets and have dug deeper in my resolve, the older I get. It also needs to be said that I make mistakes in the way I understand issues. Due to the trust built over time, I always get helpful feedback to be a more competent ally :-) With the advent of Adam, I knew I could not accept the joy of "his being" without stepping up my advocacy a notch. Hence, my signing on as a volunteer to 1n10, which supports and empowers gay youth. The youth are deciding whether to tell their families about their orientation, and for some of the young people, the result is that their clothes are placed in a garbage bag on the front porch. Yet, they are among the most resilient wonderful kids on the planet. So thanks to all off you for the happiness you bring to this site, so that Adam and each of us "can do the work" of a more fair society, while reveling in his joyous talent and the person that he is. Below: Email from Molly at 1n10 regarding the donation I made in Adamtopia's honor (it is hard for me to ask, but if some of you can spare a few dollars, please donate online . Say "Adam sent me" in the information box. :-) (Adam, as you recall, follows 1n10 on twitter) _______________________________________________ It was great to see you last night. I did want to confirm, we received your $50.00 donation made in honor of all the fans at Adamtopia. Your support ensures we will be able to continue to enrich the lives of LGBTQ youth across the entire valley through the variety of programming we offer. Whether it is our weekly group meetings in Tempe, Phoenix and Glendale, our annual Hispanic LGBTQ Festival, our statewide LGBTQ youth leadership conference or HIV education workshops at the YEP! House (Youth Empowerment Project), your generosity makes a difference each and every day in the lives of these young people. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the next generation of LGBTQ leaders enjoys all the opportunities they deserve. That we have enjoyed so much success to date is due, in no small measure, to the generous support of community members like you. Molly Molly@1n10.org www.1n10.org/

In honor of everyone on Adamtopia, I contributed $50.00 today to 1n10, www.1n10.org/ the organization that serves and empowers awesome LGBTQA youth. These are the youth that received close to 400 FYE CD's from Adam's fans (and fans also raised over $3000 (as an identified group of Adam-inspired fans) for the yearly 1n10 fundraising brunch. And, Adam now follows 1n10 :-) Every time I see one of the challenging circumstances Adamtopia members have gone through over the last months (i.e. the tornado or death of a family member), or birthday celebrations, or maybe just a lovely or feisty day at this site, I think how little I contribute to the discussion, though I read just about every word. So, in honor of all of you, and today's birthday person(s), these young people will have a bit more money for shoes or light rail tickets (many of the youth are homeless) and it will be because of you, inspired Adam fans and people extraordinaire, one and all! Love and appreciation to each of you.

Hi, I need to find the gifting thread too :-) I know that Sister Soldier Project is very grateful for any of Adam's CDs and now DVD's. They have sent out over 500 FYE CDs gifted by fans so far to women soldiers around the world www.sistersoldierproject.com/ (address is at link - ok to send to post office box) - there were about 6-8 copies on the end cap new release section plus in the Pop/Rock Adam Lambert section there were 2 more (plus 2 FYE, 1 Take One, and 1 of the AI 10 yr compilation (?). Cost was 16.99 - a little bummed because all of the other new releases in this section were on sale for 9.99 or 11.99 so it made GNT Live seem expensive - it's rather hard to tell it's actually a DVD/CD set unless you pick it up and inspect (at least for my old eyes). Ha - I'm crazy, I bought one just in case they don't sell well there - I'll have to find someone else to gift I guess. ETA: Just went searching for the gifting thread but couldn't find it - if anyone can direct me, I'd like to gift this copy I bought to someone who needs one.[/quote]
