This is a drive by post now as clients coming any minute. Re the attraction of the shows such as the Voice that focus on the judges etc, the only judge on any of these alternate shoes that I have come to appreciate at all are Blake Sheldon...never even heard of him before but he comes across as a very nice, and talented man albeit he sings in a genre I am not particularly interested in. The other one is Jennifer Nettles from Duets--if I were a singer going on that show she is definitely the star I would want to be paired with...she is good, and generous, and helpful. You could not put me with Thicke for anything...I would not even go on it if it were to try and sing with him...he is completely self-absorbed and narcissistic...yikes....makes no attempt to have actual contact with his singers at all! kelly Clarkson was pretty good but nowhere near as good as Nettles.
I still think Idol is the best of this genre if you are just wanting to watch music happen. I agree it would be great to encourage more contemporary choices and include some of the musicians own writing.

Bridgey - the thing is the ADAM WANTS IT! that's all that counts IMO. I think what Adam said was (paraphrasing cause can't be bothered going back to find video which has been his only comment) when asked without any time to think about it "sure that would be great, flattered, owe them heaps yada yada" or something like that. But not to quibble fandom has decided this would be great for his career so it must be so. Thankfully there are others around him who can look at the angles and provide him with some perspective as to what hitching his rising star to a falling and failing one might mean. But I'll stay out of it and see what plays out. Latz. This video? "I'm just hearing about this today as well and so what a beautiful rumor," Lambert told the station about the stories swirling about who might sit at the table for season 12. "Listen, if -- and I say 'if' with a capital I-F -- if they were to approach me and if they were to say, 'We want you to be a judge on the show,' I would love that. I would jump at the chance." "The singer released a statement on Monday reiterating that sentiment, which read, "'Idol' has an amazing history of introducing great musical talent, and I was very fortunate to have had the Idol stage play a big part in my career," he said. "IF 'Idol' wants to talk to me about Judging, I'd be more than flattered to have that conversation." ‘Nothing’s been asked yet’ “I like multitasking!” www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/tv/lambert-reveals-idol-judge-dream-at-queen-show/2012/07/12/gJQA7EfzeW_video.html

You're right, the target for radio tends to be a bit younger than for TV (music radio's target tops off at around 35). The most desirable target for TV advertisers is 18-49 year-olds. The higher the ratings among this group, the more a TV network can charge for advertising. So, networks will do whatever they can to maintain or boost ratings among this demographic group. However, there are exceptions: some TV shows or networks, like the CW here in the U.S. , cater to a younger demographic group (18-34). And of course, there are kid-targeted networks. But for the mainstream TV networks in the U.S. (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX), 18-49 is the primary focus. The problem for Idol is that ratings have dropped among 18-49 year-olds in recent years. So, that may lead the producers to consider hiring younger judges for next season in the hopes of attracting more younger viewers. re younger viewers: Do the teens and young 20s still watch TV? -cause I don't see my kids+their friends watch TV with the exception of some sport events. They watch stuff on-line, often well past the time it was on the air. Singing/dancing competitions are totally beneath them BTW, even SYTYCD - which IMO is the best. Yes, they do watch TV, but as you note, they watch it differently. One study found that only a third of 18–34 year olds view shows as they are first broadcast every day, compared with 58% of those 35+ years old. The younger group is more likely to record shows on DVRs and watch them later; they also watch more TV online (via Hulu, TV network sites, youtube, etc.). TV ratings for the "traditional" networks (ABC, NBC, ABC, FOX) have dropped in the last few years -- more viewers have shifted to cable channels. However, according to the information I could dig up, American Idol is still in the top 5 shows watched by 18-34 year-olds. So, not everyone in that age group is abandoning the show (maybe for some it's a guilty pleasure that they don't admit to watching). If you want to read more, here is one article on the topic: www.radio-info.com/new-media/connected/meet-todays-connected-18-34-year-oldHope this helps!

I could use a little sort of OT help. Yesterday I tried to gift a iTunes song to a friend. I went through the whole process 2x and it's never arrived in his email and my cc hasn't been charged. Any insights? I don't even know how to check my account on iTunes to see if it worked or not. Has your friend checked the "spam" folder? Your friend also has to have an itunes account.

So I guess if enough people talk about a rumour it makes it news... I totally agree with the Kid Kraddick post in the numbers thread. AI is not just past it's prime, it's on it's very last legs (in its current incarnation) and will be lucky to limp through another season or two with a walking frame and an oxygen mask. Not exactly the kind of thing Adam should be hitching his wagon to. I mean who wants to be the guy on the panel for AIs last season. I can just see the headlines... But I know I am a minority of one on this topic so I will just ... scroll scroll scroll and watch some more vids. Idol is not on its last leg! It still gets 15-20 million viewers a week. The highest rated TV show on any network, that is not a special like the Super Bowl. It brings in the highest advertising rates. Is it down from Season 3, 4, and 5. Yes! But name any other show that still gets 15 million plus viewers twice a week after 11 years! It has growing pains right now and has viable competition for the first time ever. Idol isn't going anywhere.

I have money for gifting so if you would pm me your email addresses again. I know I have a lot of your addresses but I need to know if you are available to download today. Just coming down from the high which was last nights concert , it was unbelievable , from the Elmo jacket and Dragon attack dancing ( which was the highlight for me out of lots of highlights ) to a couple of insane high notes which I dont think I have ever heard in my life before, to the reaction of the crowd to Adam whenever he returned to the stage. We got home at 3 am , absolutely shattered but so happy to have seen it live. I would go again in an instant. I giggle to myself every time I think about the jacket , it is sooo Adam. Anyway I will do some gifting tonight till I fall asleep and probably the rest tomorrow.

All right peeps, final push for this week!! This is from LadyBRinehart on twitter, one of the organizers of the drive:
Peeps are def tired of these little reminders, but only 2 days left for the single and album in the uk. a little birdie kind of implied it's going to be close for the top 10 this week esp with frank ocean's late entry. so, here's all the things peeps can do if they want to help.
1) donate cause funds are low: requestadamlambert.com/2012/07/06/uk-ncoe-sales-push-donate-beginning-now/
2) buy the album yourself by getting a UK gift card voucher: tinyurl.com/6wj4zuk £15 is the perfect amount to buy all 3 ~copies of ncoe, like 2 extra songs (I got Cuckoo as one since I think it might be a future single and map cause I wanted a copy), and the album. Just donated a second time for a final push. Go Adam Baby!!! AI has a lot of life left in it - It's still HUGE! I would love to see Adam on there as a judge. 8-)

Guys, sorry to interrupt the conversation with personal issues, but I have a uk trespassing purchase question. I'm a hopeless luddite. I tried doing the hmv thing but I'm a bit chicken when it comes to spreading my info all over the internet, and downloading all sorts of proxy's and things onto my exhausted old computer, so I gave up. I finally managed to set up a UK itunes account, but can't get the gift-card thing figured out (again, I don't want odd accounts with my cc info at weird places all over the internet--I know, I'm a 30-sum right outa the stone-age). Are there any UK gifters looking to gift Trespassing to someone? I'm happy to donate the right sum to the general kitty, or paypal that person directly. I figure it helps the cause a little and gets me the two bonus tracks. If anyone is interested, PM me. And again, so sorry if this is inappropriately self-absorbed.
ETA: uggybear, just saw your post. So happy you were there last night. I don't know if gifters generally gift albums, but if you're interested PM me. Now that I have my shiny new UK account I'd be happy to download and delete some NCOE's while I'm at it (though I'm in and out tonight). And, as I said, replenish the kitty appropriately (from which I assume you'd get reimbursed).

It still has 15-20 mil viewers right? Exposure. WERK!!! Exactly. It doesn't have the crazy ratings it used to have, but it's still the #1 show in the US. That's why all of the major music acts appear on it - for the exposure. Kidd Brattick can say it's on its last legs, but Fox isn't canceling the #1 show any time soon. The shareholders would riot at losing that cash cow. As long as it keeps pulling in the advertising $, it's staying. And lord knows, JLo's career was completely resuscitated after appearing on it and doing nothing useful for anyone but herself. Adam's never really tried to distance himself from AI. He likes the show. Plus, I'm going to assume that if he wants it, part of his desire originates from a business strategy. Nielsen reports: When you look at this 2011 chart from Nielsen here on tv viewing by age, gender and ethnicity: blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/online_mobile/american-video-habits-by-age-gender-and-ethnicity/ , it shows that the age ranges 12--17 and 18--24 make up the two smallest segments of the broadcast tv audience. Their % of internet tv viewing is not statistically significantly higher, although the mobile phone viewing of the 18-24 age range is higher. But... When you compare those % with the US population, that number not terribly surprising -- the US overall is aging and therefore the numbers of youth watching tv are going to be lower. For example, the 18--24 age range only comprises 9.9% of the population, so their 7% of the US tv audience is within expected parameters. (You can check the figures here: www.census.gov/prod/cen2010/briefs/c2010br-03.pdf ) So if advertisers want to focus on people under the age of 24, they're choosing to focus on an increasingly smaller market. Meanwhile the number of people in the US in the age range of 45--64 went up 31% from 2000 to 2010 and the Nielsen stats unsurprisingly show the 25--64 year olds also make up the largest % of the tv viewing audience. The Nielsen chart also shows that once you get over the age of 18, women watch more broadcast tv than men. Women also control over 80% of all US spending.

Brian is the most amazingest person EVAH!!! brianmay.com/brian/brianssb/brianssbjul12a.html#13Well, I think we all felt the last couple nights in Hammersmith have been a moment of significance. In fact, perhaps especially last night. The band, as it is now, seems suddenly to have switched into a higher gear - more confident, having more fun … and stepping into new territory … an amazing thought at this stage in our lives and in our careers … to be honest, I would never have thought it possible before this journey with Adam Lambert began. Adam has his own style and path, and there was never any intention that he would be 'another Freddie" - but there are many parallels, in the mechanisms which we've already developed - coming together as an organic band. It's very pure - having no extra guitarist means I am back in the old place, as in the Old Days, completely responsible for holding up the 'wall' of sound, but also completely free to control the dynamics and 'feel', working more or less as a four-piece - something which is only possible because Adam is such a strong pivot and front-man. No backing singers - no dancers - it's pure - somehow it feels like Rock ought to be … … dangerous and stimulating. It's completely - real. In this epoch of auto-tune and hard discs on stage, that's pretty rare these days. And everybody seems to be having fun. Including … totally … US! Many thanks to you guys in the Hammersmith audience - no bunch of rockers could be more supportive and inspiring. The view above is something nobody else sees … it's from Pete Malandrone … my intrepid and unflappable Guitar Tech - this is the amazing sight from the Apollo (Odeon) stage - you guys are beautiful !! Love Bri besides Adam
