LOL fair enough. I think the Brad Paisley discussion is happening cause we have nothing better to talk about. Quick! We need some leaks about the Idol judges, or from the PLL set, something!! I thought we were vetting a Supreme Court Justice nominee. LOL, Seriously! Steven Tyler had a long history of everything from shacking up with underage girls to drug abuse and addiction. AI viewers aren't going to care about a good ole boy attitude in one of Brad's songs. It's a reality singing contest!

is it inappropriate to ask if everyone here has always been this evolved in their thinking or is this just since you discovered Adam? I know some fans say Adam changed their way of thinking so I'm curious about that. For me I was an advocate for LGBT rights long before Adam and would be still even if I didn't know who Adam was. I was in favor of gay marriage back when it was considered radical. Adam was just a little boy then and it would be a couple of decades before I knew of him. I won't claim to have been a flag waver for LGBT rights, but I've always believed in equal rights and fair treatment for everyone.
I also resent being told that I'm judgmental against Paisley or anyone else who expresses--in song or any other way--the message that people who are different should be ridiculed. To me it sounds as if you're saying that disliking bigots is just as bad as bigots disliking blacks or gays or Mexicans. There is a world of difference between disliking a contemptible opinion and disliking a skin color or a nationality or a sexual orientation. Gay isn't a choice but prejudice is.
And make no mistake--bigotry set to music is still bigotry.

To Tigerlily:
If you are suggesting that the phrase 'guys who groom' is also offensive, you may be right, for all I know. I did stop for a second to think how to describe "dudes gettin' facials, manicured, waxed and botoxed, with deep spray-on tans and creamy lotiony hands" . Maybe it was an unfortunate choice of words.
To Frecklesexual:
~ I did not label Brad a homophobe, based on anything. I called him a jerk.
~ I still think one word, or action, at the right time and place, can reveal someone as a homophobe. Again, you imply I called Brad that based on his song, which I didn't do. There is maybe a very thin sometimes, but distinct line between political incorrectness, or unfortunate choice of words and actual hate speech. My country was a warring zone for over ten years, due to national hatred. I was studying in Belgrade while NATO bombs were falling. Today's political atmosphere is such that everyone is extremely sensitive to hate speech. It's actually a legal offense here.
~ If you get hit in the face with cries of homophobia almost daily, why is it hard for you to continue to take those accusations seriously? I don't get it. Maybe people are just feeling more free to speak up, these days.
~ I did go over the line about the gun part. It's just that I think there maybe wouldn't be any shootings if guns were forbidden.
~ Doesn't the lady in the song allow for a backrub, as long as it stays only a backrub, but he keeps going on, and she has to swat his hand? If I have misunderstood that, I apologize. If I haven't, such kind of behaviour is unacceptable, not to mention bragging about it.
~ We agree then to disagree. This song, as it happens, turned into a platform for serious discussion. It doesn't have much to do with Brad being a possible judge or not. I just do not believe in silence on such serious matter. Especially on this forum.
To Hermeticallysealed:
~ I don't recall telling anyone how they should feel.

Oh dear. I've been debating all day whether to post this or not. I wanted to comment on the Brad Paisley conversation from yesterday/today because it's making me very uncomfortable. Disclaimer. I'm not a country music fan, so am not a fan of BP. But I do know who he is. Im just really disturbed by all the passing of judgment on someone's personality by the lyrics of one, old, song. Haters do that to Adam all the time (judge him by his lyrics) and we are all outraged when that happens. It feels somewhat hypocritical to me to be doing the same thing to another artist. It IS an asinine thoughtless song. But, can we judge the song instead of the singer, who has possibly changed since writing it? I don't know why , but I feel like the song has come from ignorance (which can be fixed) rather than true douchebaggery (which is incurable ) I'm not sure why this bothers me so much, but there you go. Gonna go hide under a rock now, I guess.
