Scroll has been my friend all day … a slow day at the office combined with some bizarre discussions here. What did I learn? The fandom is more diverse than I thought, even if contained to ATOP “only” (where we pride ourselves in acceptance and love and understanding and common ground). I thought I might be ready to venture out into the world beyond this bubble (i.e. comment sections on vids etc), I realized I need some hardening before that. Maybe I’ll retire to the pretty thread for a while … until you all hash out what the word “hate” really entails (not that I would want to know in detail). ETA: deleted the gifs and saw some very nice articulate comments above.... the topic has moved on it seems ... good My solution is definitely to visit the other threads. If you like Queen, there is a brilliant thread on the whole history of Queen starting with the first track on their first album. If you like an analysis of Adam's voice, there is a major thread on that one. National Glampoon and I would love input on the thread for picking the best audio and best audio/vid combo for the Queen performances. And then there is the pretty, the gifs, SYTYCD ....lots of great stuff on a day when we really need it.

is it inappropriate to ask if everyone here has always been this evolved in their thinking or is this just since you discovered Adam? I know some fans say Adam changed their way of thinking so I'm curious about that. For me I was an advocate for LGBT rights long before Adam and would be still even if I didn't know who Adam was. I'm not offended For me it was never an issue, I mean growing up it was never talked about, period. Good or bad. I guess it was just people are people. Some people used to say i was so nieve or omg so and so is gay. And I was like "oh ok. doesn't change them, they are still the same person they were yesterday." lol. But as far as understanding rights and going deeper, yes Adam has definetly made me think WAAAAAY more about alot of things. Now I make it known how I feel about gay marriage, that everyone has a right to be who they are and with whoever they want no matter what. To me 2 people in love is the most beautiful thing in the world and to have that special connectiion w/ someone is not something that happens time after time after time. I do get very irritated when someone says that they don't have the same rights as straight people and so on. I'm always like why? Really. I usually get 'you're straight why do you care?' because I can't imagine finding that one person in this world, just for me and some idiot telling me that I can't make it legal. If something happens to my partner....I have nothing but what I have in my own name. That is just a little of what Adam has helped me see clearer. I understand too all those people out there that were brought up to believe it is 'wrong' to be gay. You only believe what you are fed, taught to believe growing up. Until you are old enough to question those beliefs you don't know any difference exists out there. I was brought up catholic, but I had huge amounts of questions. To me people are people everyone should have the same rights. I vote Adam for president and the world would be a better place? He's so charming and you know how he just asks and we do whatever he tells us!!! hahah! Sorry. To me he is something else. He's not like anyone I have ever known. SERIOIUSLY I'd go along w/ the whole alien thing, totally!

Thank you - this really made my day [/IMG] . He turns something that could have been embarassing into something so funny and cute... oh yeah, and I've been in London to witness the "trouser-ripping-incident". Darn, he's close to perfect ;D
I have to agree w/ the darn near close to perfect

I think it's safe to say that the majority of us have a pretty progressive world view, but even the people on the same side fall within a spectrum regarding issues of morality. I just rewatched this TED talk of Jonathan Haidt discussing the differences between liberals and conservatives regarding issues of morality. Even though we are all probably on the same side, we could benefit from trying to understand each other.
