No worries -- there are many cultural differences between countries, and it would be difficult for us to know all of them! The U.S. is a very large country with a large number of regional accents. You can find different accents even within the same state. In addition, we have a large immigrant population, which means many people speaking English accented with their own native inflections. So, in the U.S., regional accents are not frowned upon, and there is no attempt to remove them or to teach one uniform English pronunciation. Hopes this helps! There is, however, a supposedly neutral "newscaster's accent." American Accent Influences It's not a "turnamint", it's a tournament — toor-na-ment. What the hell is this? I mean, Springsteen doesn't go on "turr." No, he goes on tour. "All right, guys, we're going on turr... One, two, three, furr!" —Pittsburgh native Craig Shoemaker on the differences between inland-New-England and Texas accents About the technical details of American Accents.

Of course, people in the entertainment industry usually try to sing or act without their accents, unless the part calls for an accent. But then again, many Country music acts do not try to hide their accents. I think Alexsandra's point was that in her country, they try to speak proper English with no accent. Whereas, in the US, most people do not, nor should they, try to cover up their regional accents. It is both common, charming and accepted.

Tackling the house cleaning chores, I threw Trespassing UK version on the stereo. Recently I have been so busy listening to Queenbert and live TP I haven't heard the album in a while. DAMN! IT IS GREAT! I love every track. If this doesn't get a Grammy for album of the year, it will be criminal. Ahh. A perfect time to ask my question. Is it necessary for an album to have a hit single to get a grammy nomination? I know it is more likely but is there precedent the other way. Is there "grammy" for every country or is the Grammy awards an international event where international members also have input in the final voting? For a Pop album, yes. Usually Pop albums that are nominated have at least one big hit and have sold much more than TSP. The unspoken rules are different for albums from the Alt. rock or Jazz genres. Sometimes really different albums sneak in, like collaboration or duet albums.

Thank you for saying this! I was going to comment last night, but then thought maybe I was wrong. You are brave for speaking up. I don't think it matters whether or not Adam is considered effeminate (and judging from the comments after any online article, there are many who think of him that way even if we don't); what matters is that there are effeminate men who shouldn't be ridiculed in songs like the one Brad Paisley sings. I am in agreement with swarm's post from last night. I found the lyrics to that song extremely offensive and hurtful. It's ONE song is a catalog of many that make fun of everything. Do you also think he wants to check his gf for ticks or that he'd really trade his wife in to go fishing? It's a song not a social statement or a commentary on the LGBT community.
It seems that until Brad Paisley was mentioned as a possible judge on Idol and people thought he might get it over Adam no one gave two shits about this song and now all of the sudden it's an outrage to be dissected for all the underlying homophobia and what it might mean for Adam if he has to sit next to someone who would dare write a song intended to be FUNNY..... Research Brad Paisley before you pass judgment on him. btw, songs aren't necessarily auto biographical last note.... Brad has a lot of different songs and one song doesn't give you the full picture of who he is.

Trespassing has 2 things going for it, that may garner a nomination: 1) It was a #1 Billboard album 2) It made history. First #1 from an openly gay artist. << That is very significant and the Grammy committee just may want to recognize that. With these 2 things and the fact that it is a great album with fabulous reviews, may just make it nomination worthy in their eyes. Plus, if RCA can get their shit together, and get a good single out in the Fall, that gives the album 3 months to pic up steam again before the noms come out! (Yes, I am sometimes delusionally optimistic!)

I would love a translation of what the narrator is saying here. I find the ending with using Adam singing and having pictures of Freddie performing intriguing. Will do Adam related parts - ... GREAT COMMENTARY ON ADAM!! LOVE IT!!!!!

Interesting! As a Texas women working in the north east I finally had to take classes to correct my accent, cause those Bostonians would comment on it all the time. Watching I8 I knew Adam was gay only by the way he pronounced certain words, record was the one word where I could hear weho!! (wasn't Adamized at that point reading everything about him on the web, twice) My dh can hear someone speak and tell exactly where they are from. He uses it to open a conversation with strangers!!!
