I don't think Jennifer Lopez can be used as an example of what Idol can do for a career given that she was already a huge star coming in. She had a string of #1 hits over many years/albums.
Perhaps a better anecdotal example is Demi Lovato. A moderate star (on the lower tier of Disney stars) coming into X-factor as a judge (an unexpected choice as well) who had never really had much significant radio success. She's now riding high on the biggest song of her career "Give Your Heart a Break" which on the August 4th chart will hit #9 on Pop (previous song Skyscrapper got to #33 on Pop).
Is this because GYHB is the best song she's released? hardly. I personally believe it's due in large part to the x-factor gig.
Radio wants to seem like they are on top of things and having someone on television two nights a week for months and totally ignoring them on radio would seem foolish.
Now, will Adam get the Idol gig? Probably not. Would he benefit greatly if he did? undoubtedly. Will he be okay if he doesn't get it? Of course.

Though if I had Adam on YT twice a week, I would have to go find another job, I think.

Since @luv2laugh77 was in the back of the GA Floor, it made it more difficult to record our HQ audio and still video the show. We do however, have 7 vids from London Night 3. It gets a little crazy at times with all the people, but she did zoom in on Adam for an 'up close' feel. We have combined our HQ audio with these HD vids. Hope you enjoy them! It's interesting to see how Adam handles each performance of the same song so uniquely giving each one a little something different to keep them fresh. I don't know why everyone is so worried. Why would Adam be walking on Cloud 9 lately if something really wonderful isn't about to happen? He is not one to be forgotten. It is early in his career and he
has achieved so much in 3 years. I feel he is at the tip of the iceberg. We need to put out more positive energy because the man is a superstar!!!!!
