Same trail here! I was active on a very prominent political blog too. Since there is one that is very well known, I'm betting we were at the same place. I started in 2000 and a group of us still are together at another site. We've moved a few times and the board we are on now is closing down so we will have to move again. They going to a paid subscription site (not the original) so I think I'm going to finally drop out. Not sure. edit: I am still personal friends with two of the people from that blog. We had a meetup which was a big deal as ten years ago your online friends usually stayed behind the screen. Turned out one guy lives around the block from me. We're talking Manhattan here. Not exactly a small town where you bump into your neighbors.

So it seems Adam wasn't at Perez's birthday party after all, right? I would say that if Lyndsey didn't see him, then he wasn't there. It's not like he can hide. His mere presence in a room causes a stir. If he wasn't, I wonder why? WITWIGNAFL? Bonie McKee was there. Warren was there. Ferras was there.

"quote author=alohapf board=daily thread=106 post=24306 time=1301221440] NoAngel---- I have no problem with people learning as they go along, educating themselves on new issues, and acting in whatever way feels right to them. A few quiet words at the lunch table can be just as powerful as picketing on Capitol Hill. And it is okay if your fandom expands your worldview and your compassion, as well as your righteous outrage. Since forever, it has been often been the “ordinary” folks who initiate social change. People who would have been content to just live their lives until something became too horrible to tolerate; until someone they loved was hurt; until they : could no longer look ....quote/ ] "
Great things are often accomplished by small means... Some bring attention to causes by making grand gestures; others bring attention to causes by living and reflecting their messages. Both are necessary and powerful. Both are most powerfully effective when the motivation comes from a sincere place that seeks no personal glory.
My mother has never been what I would strictly call an "activist," but she always seeks out, enjoys and honestly celebrates the differences in people. And she always immediately stops conversations that do otherwise. My mother, in her eighties, recently visited a neighbor's home for dinner when their conversation suddenly turned discriminatory. After trying to stop the remarks twice, she finally said, "I love you, but I will have to leave your home if you continue to talk that way about other people who deserve to be loved and respected just as much as you do." The hosts apologized and the dinner went on.
Some speak out stridently and are widely visible, and that is powerful and important. My mother taught me that quietly speaking out with love, on an individual level, is also powerful and important. As Adam says, love overcomes hate. Anyone who lives this principle helps activate change.
There is a season for all kinds of activism, and there are seasons when life provides different experiences to help us grow and evolve in various ways. There are some seasons when people need to spend most or all their activist hours just organizing change and love in their own lives before they have the time and/or tools to address change in the world around them. We are all continuously evolving and changing and learning as life happens.
I don't understand those who scorn when or how someone finds more knowledge and light once they have found it and are ready to act on it.
I am thankful for everyone who shows up at the tree ready to help pass out the fruit. Great essay, NoAngel, as always!

On another note, interesting and so smart, that Adam mentions way back in that article that talking about his private life might suffocate something good. Good for him that even then he was already figuring out a strategy for how to give love as a celebrity its best chance.

Most logical guess is that Sauli arrived last night or afternoon. I would imagine Adam touched base with Perez and let him know what was going on. Perez tweeted about a surprise party the night before that there doesn't seem to be pics for. Maybe Adam made an appearance there.

I was never one of the 'known' posters since it is in my nature to lurk mostly. I only posted when I got really riled up by the discussion so I never formed long lasting relationships. But I spent an inordinate amount of time there and at a couple of other places.

RCA Ed's comment:
For the first time I think those are not RCA Ed's words. To me they seem canned, as if they came from an executive level above and then were composed by the Publicity Dept. I'm reading into it that Adam and his people would like to make peace with ABC. That is my take.

The one last night, with a Blue Carpet, and sponsors, seemed like a party more for promo.

The one I've seen doing some pretty nice posts on David Cook's site recently.

Hi, 2 posts in a week from me! I just had to chime in to say how Adam has influenced my life on a personal level. I agreed to take a foster dog yesterday after dithering about it for a couple days. I'll be 72 soon and adopted the last dog I fostered 2 yrs ago; she's an older English Setter and we get along just fine, but I always felt a little guilty about having a fenced yard and a house big enough for one more dog. Anyway I decided that you 'get back what you give away' and called the gal at the rescue. I'm so excited! Amber will arrive this afternoon. I'm so glad I said yes. She's suffered so much (abuse, major vision problems, tick borne disease, and possibly heart worm); and it just seems right to give her a comfortable home. And my dog should enjoy the company.
Whether I wind up adopting her remains to be seen, but I can surely help her get in shape to find a forever home somewhere. OTOH if she seems to enjoy Adam's voice, she may get to stay.
