3.28.11 Adam News & Info

I'm sure I've told this story on here before (or on some previous incarnation of this board) but I was in new york during the AMAs and I got to see Adam live on the Letterman show the next day! Yay! (it was recorded monday but aired wednesday). And as I was taking the subway back uptown from times square after Letterman, I was bitching to my husband, who was with me, about the ridiculousness of the whole ABC, GMA thing. And a youngish guy, maybe late thirties, sitting across from us on the subway leaned forward and said, "excuse me, sorry to interrupt, but I couldn't help hearing, are you talking about Adam Lambert?" And I said yes, we were. And it turns out he was a middle-level production type guy at ABC and at GMA, and he had been in the meeting where they discussed the complaints and decided to cancel Adam. And I gave him my best outraged arguments, about how ridiculous I thought it was, and also about how all these fans had come to NYC--flown from far away in some cases--to go to the mini-concert Adam was supposed to give (remember how they were going to have it in this special theater that seated many people for the occasion?). Anyway, he looked sheepish, and frowned, and said, oh, I didn't really think about that, can't they go to the Early Show instead? He kept hedging, and wanting to have it both ways, playing the "people were upset" card, and the "there was a lot of pressure on the network" card, but he himself pointed out that GMA had just had Rihanna on doing a very risque number that everyone loved, and then he leaned in and agreed with me, and said "We only got 1500 complaints--that's like, none--we get more than that for an average episode of DWTS." SO there you go. He was still kinda trying to make apologies and offer some kind of logic for ABC's reaction, but you could tell his heart wasn't in it and that he thought it was all kinda bullshit. He thanked us nicely for talking about it, when we had to get off, but I was still kinda pissed (though I definitely didn't go batshit on him, LOL). But anyway, long story short (too late for that : you're perfectly right, rama--1500 is a Very Low Number of complaints. I got that straight from the horse's (ass's) mouth. And every time I read an article like this touting the number like it's some big thing, I roll my eyes and think about how I know that even ABC didn't think that number was particularly high.

SUGAREE: You're probably (hopefully) off to bed, so this'll be too late, but in any case I'm thinking of you, lady. Hang in there. It'll all be good-I'm confident. I know plenty of people who've had to go through the same thing, and that's not to minimize the stress of it at all: it sucks! But they were all fine. And looked beautiful before and after! Doctors are amazing these days, especially when it comes to things like this, where everyone knows what it is and what they're dealing with. HUGS and the very best of wishes to you. And let yourself be pampered for a while after, yes?
