My industry double-speak must be improving. I had heard through the rumor mill he was "not returning" to his sitcom at least two weeks ago. I had no idea it was the Tim Allen show. I was thinking it was some cable teen sitcom.
The second I heard it was a successful network sitcom, I thought, "Aw, hell no! There is no way he left voluntarily. He had to be let go." Who voluntarily leaves a network sitcom for "schedule conflicts"? (Without a previous salary battle, and even then, it usually means you've been "let go.")
No wonder he's been lobbying for Idol so hard?

What else could it be? And if he left, it must mean he has something better going on. Or,was he fired?

Also he had a guest spot on Season 1. But the msn story says he's being replaced and another actor is taking over his character. That indicates to me that if it was a guest spot, it is a role that is going recurrent and he wasn't asked to continue. ETA: Just saw your post above. If he was only in one episode, why all the hubbub?

Hmmm, interesting. This is the first Nick Jonas thing that actually worries me. :-/ Yeah, and I'm not getting the cross-pollination between E!, NBC, and Fox. I didn't get how Ryan Seacrest became a correspondent/interviewer at the NBC Olympics when he is so closely associated with Fox, and how "Home" all the sudden gets major exposure on a competing network because Al Michael's daughter is involved in American Idol. And didn't someone post that there is a new show on E! that Ryan Seacrest is producing with Kevin Jonas, with Nick making occasional appearances? (I really have not been following closely to know if my facts are straight, but all these things do give one pause if they are true.) I dunno. That and the Demi Lovato as representing the "youth contingent" on X-Factor, the criticism of Idol not being youth-oriented enough, and the resurgence of boy bands, like One Direction. I really think we need to view this as a big possibility.

I'm confused. Seems pretty straightforward---he has left the show and is being replaced. (or, he just didn't sign on for this season) He isn't exactly a hot commodity; can't see him leaving a sitcom unless he had something else going on.
Or am I missing something? Which is entirely possible.
Eta---sounds like his character, which was just a guest last season, is being put on contract and he isn't interested; is this it?

Heck even someone thats not young enough for me to be their mother! However that said, I good with them looking for a youth-oriented judge. I get that. But a panel with Mariah and NJ? I'll have no issue with however it falls out, but I will sure laugh my ass off if NJ and Mariah are ruling the panel. Heck maybe Randy will stay on and I will be forced to watch the X Factor. ETA: Is Mariah really that much of a draw? I've never much liked her. Maybe its my age... she just didn't seem that "cool" when she was on top of her game. Frankly JLo felt more relevant prior to her first season than M does.

I agree, Adam doesn't NEED this. He needs something, but it doesn't necessarily have to be Idol. X-Factor has Britney and Demi, I kind of knew they were going to go after someone young; sad NJ is the best they could do.
eta---totally agree Koshka, I don't think Mariah is a draw at all; but then I didn't think JLo was either but things seemed to work out fine for her. I guess we will see, but this panel without Adam is of absolutely no interest to me.
