A lot of peeps in the UK watch American Idol. Lots of others other countries also get it. I think it would help break thru in the UK...they really love their talent shows there.
Carrie has been in the business, for what 8 years(??) now. She is earning her stripes.
I guess I just don't care much for female voices. I much prefer males. But there have been a few I was impressed with...loved Bette Midler...there you go crazy and flamboyant.

Yep. Carrie is country's "golden girl" and radio will play - and people will buy - whatever crap she may put out - doesn't matter. : However, I do think she has worked really, really hard since she won Idol - right place at the right time, so good for her. Really? Are her songs played a lot on the US radio ? on Country music radio stations, I guess, not Top40 or HAC? Yes, Carrie's songs chart very high on the CM charts and have consistently done so for over 7 years now. Some of her songs have made it onto the HAC charts during that time frame, but she doesn't really target the country crossover market. I guess this last album is trying to move a little more in that direction, but Carrie usually stays pretty close to her country roots. IMO, she has a great voice and supports some positions that are not popular in the CM world (including gay marriage), so she is "awright" in my book. I'm not really much of a fan of country music anymore though, so whatever!

Agree with you there about music lovers not basing their buying habits on metacritic scores. Many of them probably never heard of it before . Although a good review from Rolling Stone might cause a reader to check out his album when they would have otherwise not have. When TSP had a metacritic score of 80, I sure was touting it to defend against the haters who thought the album was crap. Once it went so low, I never mentioned it again. :( To really compare apples to apples, the albums would have to have the same number of reviewers, the same reviewers and the same genre. I do believe that Adam had a couple of reviews that were not about the music and that is what saddens me. His score could have been much higher.

Feel free to scroll by if not interested in a beautiful short story on the pursuit of perfection or a ranting monologue on Hollywood and the slippery slope of the "perfecting" machine. Photoshoppers everywhere and any and all obsessed with physical perfection must read the (very) short story The Birthmark by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The ultimate warning. www.online-literature.com/poe/125/{deleted text to shorten} ---------------------------------------------------- Yes to alive, flesh and blood, throbbing with life, and perfectly imperfect. *steps off soap box once again* Oh I LOVE Nathaniel Hawthorne's short stories - fell in love with them in HS and again in college. My favorite is "Rappaccini's Daughter" which has a similar theme to "The Birthmark". Only this time the beautiful scientist's daughter has developed a poisonous nature having grown up around poisonous plants all her life. She falls in love with a young man who has entered the garden and tries to persuade him to look past her poisonous nature and see her inner beauty. But he can't totally and tries to cure her and she dies. When I was in HS this story really resonated with me. I was one of those females who LOVED math & science, but especially math, and tried to ignored all the advice to "play dumb" to catch a boyfriend. I just could not do it and be happy with myself. It is so nice to see that there is now far less pressure on intelligent young girls to play dumb than when I was in HS. So how do these stories relate to Adam? Well, I think it is obvious to all of us. Adam has a great deal of beauty, both inner and outer. But some people just can't see past other aspects of who Adam is and would like to change him. But then Adam would no longer be Adam. It is an inspiration that he steadfastly holds to being himself!

It's so easy to preview music now, I would never use a metric score as a serious source of information. I would use a BB score or a RS score though, to go to i-Tunes and listen. I do use reviews for movies. I look at the Critics' reviews and the user reviews. Helps me decide if I want to spend my $10 and my 2+ hours on that movie. I hate spending 2 hours of my time on a bad movie!

SOAKED and danceygeorgia gosh i don't even know what the general public is any more. I have no idea what would resonate with "them". if idol still takes NM considering her outburst on twitter i will be even more confused, though don't know why i would be when america's show DWTS loves Chris Brown. But to echo what I have read earlier here, I think SHADY would be the break out single for Adam. That song that is so different from what you hear everyday and somewhat shocking- his "I Kissed a Girl", "Poker Face" "Somebody I Used to Know", etc. Couple it with a provokative video with some subliminal messaging (just go for it adam), I'd be a happy cult member. A provocative song and video is fine for a straight girl to break through, not for a gay guy, unfortunately, IMO. Yea, Shady is my favorite song from TP - it just makes me want to dance! But I think mainstream America would have problems accepting that the opening lines because if you listen to the words it is so male on male. But I also think that people ignore alot of the words if a song has a good vibe which I think Shady has. So maybe it could work as a single, but more likely after another song was very successful.

If only Adam didn't enunciate so well!! ;D Seriously, once I realized "pull it out" was "roll it out" I thought the song would be fine. We know it's about lookin for sex in a seedy club (OK, a not so seedy club), but if you don't know the entire back story, can't it just be about going out in your "dancin shoes" to an underground club? I think Naked Love, to the general listener, would be more sexual.

I agree. I think after 2 back-to-back hits, radio would play anything he puts out - Shady, Naked Love, the lots.
