And who the heck is this never heard of Keith Urban? A country musician? Well, never heard of Paisley either before I started reading this news thread. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who's puzzled by these speculations. Of course, the show is called American Idol but people watch it in Europe and many other places, too. So I would assume it might be wise to hire some internationally known artist and not a singer who is not widely known and has little potential of becoming a worldwide star. Those Idol dudes should consult Adamtopia and not some Chick-fil-A-cheats. Sigh. Keith Urban has 14 #1 hits on the country chart. He has five or six albums that have gone platinum or multi-platinum in the US, Canada and in Australia. He has won five Grammy awards and multiple CM awards. Country Music is a very popular genre of music in the United States and two of AIs current stars have been from this genre. Keith is a nice looking guy, has a sexy accent, did well as a judge on The Voice in Australia, is articulate and is married to a movie star. He and his wife are a "Hollywood Couple". In general, people seem to like him and find him to be talented and interesting. AI doesn't hire established artists to "make them worldwide stars". There are several reasons behind the choices and they have been detailed a thousand times over the past couple of months. The main goal is advertising money in the US! AI isn't trying to make anyone more famous by bringing them to the judges table. They aren't in the business of helping established artists out, and this includes Adam. If it happens, it happens, but this is not the goal of hiring a panel of judges!

Every time I find myself impatient with Idol, I remember Danny Gokey's not so famous last words (relayed by Ryan Seachest) Top 3 Results night: I just want this to be over. I just want to know what's going on. Gokey got his wish. They sent him home that night. Now, he doesn't even have a record contract. j/s He just performed at the Republican National Convention and there were tons of tweets basically saying "WTH is this?" lol

Even though Adam has it all, those suits probably see him as a big risk that may scare off the more conservative audience. Adam might do a lot better in a European or Worldwide Idol if such shows existed. No risk ,no gain.. That's why Idol has become so boring and irrelevant, with their numbers dropping like mad. I think they are addressing that with their choice of NM ,maybe they can up it another notch with Adam.

It does come down to ratings and getting the right demo and amount of viewers they are shooting for. How do you do that? You have a show that people want to watch. Steven should have been highly entertaining, but he was the dullest of dull! Jlo wasn't worth what they were paying her either! Randy is and always has been overpaid and a terrible judge. AI wants and NEEDS personalities on that panel! They need some crazy. some loopy, some drama, some eye candy, some sweetness and some good advisers. They want all this in a package that will retain their old viewers, bring back the ones who have left and get new (younger) viewers. Then, these judges need to have chemistry, because that is when viewers really enjoy watching. Lastly, they need to make sure that these four choices stay within their budget. When you look at all the factors and consider that this is the #1 rated (non-sports) show in the US, this is an important multi-million dollar decision and not one that the producers are taking lightly. A bad decision could cost them millions of dollars! ITA with every word. Having said that - WHY did they keep Randy for all these years? He brought a huge ZERO to the panel, no charisma, no speaking ability, nada. Simon was the attraction Paula had lots of entertainment value, Kara understood what she heard and gave reasonable advice, Randy was the black dude with no descernable input. Now they want "stars" regardless of anything else... Of course they need a person with an "accent" preferably British (well I guess AU will do) = respectability : , two set of huge boobs = obvious attraction : , and I have no idea what else advertisers need... the thing is I doubt they want a gay guy - what audience does he attract?I am really talking myself out of any possibility of this thing happening... better go do something useful... Dear UNIVERSE! MAKE THIS STOP! He attracted enough audience/fans to vote him #2 his year. And being a "gay guy" may be an asset in having a diverse judges panel this year. Why not? 8-)

If Adam doesn't get Idol I don't really think he'll take it too hard. His life has been made up of auditions and rejections -- it's the biz. This will just be a gig he didn't get. I'm sure he's figured out that it's not that he isn't good but because he wasn't the "fit" they needed. Remember when he commented about Idol that he figured out that they hadn't filled the "rocker dude" spot so he leaned in that direction with his audition song choices?
OT: I found a Fleetwood Mac CD in the dollar bin yesterday so I picked it up. Interesting notes on the cover -- the group had been together 8 years when this music came out (it's the album with Landslide and Rhiannon). They had never had a Number 1 album until this one was released. It also had 3 #1 singles. EIGHT YEARS folks. There were a number of Fleetwood Mac offerings before this one -- many that I liked ALOT. Some things just take time. Adam has the talent and he has the recognition and he has the industry's respect. He's come a long way and he sounds very happy with the progress so far. I sense that things have never come easily for him but that he sticks with it. He certainly understands the "game" and continues to break barriers. I hope none of us will get discouraged if the AI thing doesn't work out. It will be at that point where fan support can only help him clear the hurdles. j/s
BTW -- I'm still texting my NCOE requests daily and I'm still getting replies from all the stations. I also started requesting BTIKM -- I really really like that song.

People who actually know things rather than just opining as I do, do you think the announcement will most likely be Tues or Wed of the coming week and I can relax and not check this site for news so often until then?

Perhaps these "suits" see him as the exciting contestant who placed second on Idol and had all the water cooler buzz as well. Too risky bacause he's gay? I don't think so. 8-)

Even though Adam has it all, those suits probably see him as a big risk that may scare off the more conservative audience. Adam might do a lot better in a European or Worldwide Idol if such shows existed. But Adam did great on Idol the first time! He was a hugely popular contestant. There is NO risk that he would "scare off" people. They picked him to mentor just a couple years ago. If anyone is a risk, it's Nicki, but that's one of the reasons she was picked in the first place. Eta---Keith Urban is big-time. He gets his picture in the press a lot (I'm sure being married to a famous actress helps) He plays awards shows, and, I think, he may even be at that huge i Heart Radio show in Vegas.
