Please tell me it ain't so. Pen Point Review American Idol’ Chooses Keith Urban & Nicki Minaj As Judges — Source penpointreview.blogspot.com/2012/08/american-idol-chooses-keith-urban-nicki.html
So who will fill in the fourth judging spot? We have been told that Kayne West is out of the running and Nick Jonas probably will not take on the fourth chair as well. Someone very likely to take the spot is Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe, who may take over the reigns as the "British judge." Luckily he has plenty of practice as a judge from his work on So You Think You Can Dance. What we do know is that the fourth judge is definitely a wild card. ETAStill looking for a reason to delete this. "It ain't so". And as far as I can tell, this is actually not a news report but a personal blog site.

Have not had time to look through and see everyone's choices so this could be redundant. If so, I will submit another one. I would love to hear Adam to Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera. Can you just imagine the velvety seduction and the amazing high notes? I LOVE LOVE LOVE Music of the Night! I loved David Cook's version on Idol and Adam's would be even better(er), in fact sublime! There are so many songs I love (standards, but others too) that I can't choose just one or two. I'd love to hear Adam do every single one of them. I fear it will be a long wait before he starts covering Broadway/standards/Jazz-type songs. In the meantime I'm loving what he's doing now. He's opened up a new musical world for me - Pop. I may not love it all ;D but I do like a lot of it! Who knew?

I just reread the EW Idol article -- which appears to be the only real new reporting out there ---
A couple of things struck me........
The third spot, sources say, is most likely going to Australian country music star Keith Urban. The top runner-up for his spot (or, if Fox and producers decide to go full throttle, for a fourth spot) is Spanish singer-songerwriter Enrique Iglesias. And, hanging in there with an outside chance, Idol veteran Adam Lambert is still in the mix.
Question: Perhaps FOX, CORE (Fuller) and Nigel have not agreed if there will be 3 or 4 judges?
And this is the first official confirmation that FOX is paying part of the judges salaries.......
“There will be several positive announcements to follow shortly,” Fuller told EW in a statement. “American Idol is moving up a gear and with the help and commitment from Fox, who are more intimately involved and supportive this season than ever before, we are looking forward to a dynamic new season ahead.”

Q3 - I honestly feel like the "journalists" are filling in a lot of gaps when they write. The last statement is indeed interesting, but the former.. I don't know what to make of it. I think when they make offers to specific people its not really a matter or swapping one artist for another, they are being cast just like the contestants. If they had not secured Nicki, I think the panel would have looked completely different, same with Mariah. You add one judge and you have to step back and see what alternatives you have because it changes the picture. So I don't think it is directly Enrique vs Adam, per se, its which of these two (or three or four or none) will complete the picture they are looking for.
ETA: I've taken a look at Keith, Enrique & Nicki's interviews. Keith is seems like a really laid back guy. I wouldn't call him monotone in the least, but he is not at all energetic. Nicki is less crazy than I thought she would be, but she also is not terribly articulate and she is difficult for me to listen to. Its almost like I have to concentrate on what she is actually saying. Enrique is even more laid back than Keith. Not bad, but also a little lack luster. It may also come down to casting and adding the right personality. I don't know Mariah's style too much. What I have seen of her she seems more up beat and "sparkly" than the rest.
Any opinions from those who know these folks better?
