Are we really whining because Adam's biggest cheerleader from Idol is not claiming to be his vocal coach? Rhiannsu kudos to your explanation! Orland is not a vocal coach. I think Darian or Dorian was the vocal coach that's working with Adam during AI Orland is primarily an arranger although I think he does do some vocal coaching as well but yes Dorian Holly is the vocal coach that Adam worked with on Idol. Michael said at one point that although the contestants often rotated between coaches Adam worked with Michael and Dorian throughout his run. But that really matters not because "Find Your Unique Voice" is not primarily about vocal coaching although that is a part of it. Listen to the promo, it is about learning the ins and outs of how to audition, how to win a job. Auditioning skills are about WAY more than just being able to sing. They talk about critiquing auditions not critiquing singing per say. The singing is only a part of what you need to know to audition effectively especially when it comes to reality TV as contrary to everyone's belief that the are looking for "the best singers" they are looking for the best TV personalities. There is a good reason Adam repeatedly referred to the auditions as "casting" because it wasn't about singing it was about filling pre-ordained "roles" on the show. He stated that he leaned to rock during Hollywood week because he could see that there were only a couple of "rock guys" (Durbin was one) and he knew he could nail that "role" better than the others there. ETA: While I am not a PR expert I have long thought that Adam has been the best PR rep Idol could ever have. The way he handle the media after his loss was nothing short of genius and he was a major reason that season wasn't an absolute media disaster. Furthermore while he has always been supportive of the show he has also spoken openly and honestly about things that the show often tried to minimize or divert attention from such as the myth of the One Day cattle call auditions. Very few Idol ever spoke candidly about the audition process but he has from the beginning. Ditto the whole thing about "casting" and it being primarily a TV show rather than a true competition. So his praise of the show sounds more authentic because he does not actually toe the party line about things.

I wonder if Map is about someone who inspired Adam during the album writing process? I recall one interview when he talked about not knowing which direction to go in and talked about being dark, then finding his way. But he never explained what caused this to happen. Just a thought since he said it was not about Sauli. (I'm behind, but noticed this) Adam has said in interviews that he wrote dark music before he met Sauli, who inspired him to write happy music. I don't find the actual articles right now, but this is one is almost similar: "He’s inspired a lot. I’m writing about love and relationships. Before meeting Saul —which is a great positive healthy exciting relationship — I had some not so healthy situations. Heartache is great for songwriting."

Not sure if Kris ever said that Joshua Ledett was the best singer on Idol ever. But last year's Top 5 is when the useless judges really proved they were morons: Steven Tyler declared Joshua Ledet "one of the top two Idols of all time." (Sorry, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, et al.) Then Randy Jackson told Joshua, "You're one of the best singers ever on this show." (Sorry, Jessica Sanchez, aka Randy's former favorite contestant.) Then Jennifer Lopez called Joshua "one of the best singers of the past 50 years." (Sorry, Adele, Freddie Mercury, Whitney Houston.) My favorite picture of Adam are the ones where he is on stage. Especially just before or after a performance. I can feel that anticipation of starting a performance or finishing a show. But I don't have a photobucket account. Dang! The first one is a black and white photo, I think by Lee Cherry, just before Adam goes on stage. You just see Adam's back and there is a cinder block wall on his right. You can see the stage ahead of him. It is if a moment was captured/stolen that illuminates the transition from private citizen Adam to Adam Fucking Lambert. The second photo is of the crew taking their final bow at the end of the Atlanta show during Glamnation. It is taken from someone backstage and you see all the backs of all of the band members and the faces of the audience members. I love seeing things from Adam's perspective. It is a way to get a glimpse of the surreal reality he now experiences. Wish I could post these pictures, because they are among my very favorites. I could favorite all of the pictures I have seen today.

Yes, and now that I have reread the actual Adam tweet -- I think it is about Sauli but he wanted the tweeter to look beyond the literal meaning of the song. That makes it similar to Aftermath to me. Songs that can be read on multiple levels.
