I think I like the old payola system better. You pay your money and they play your song. I bet it was cheaper, too. It was not cheaper. It was not better. It was terrible. Now it is just bad. Sometimes artists and songwriters were even forced to sign over all their royalties. The combination of the enforcement (NY State Attorney General Settlements/fines 2004-2005) and the rise of streaming media/digital/P2P music has worked together to break corporate radio's 35 year lockhold on what is a hit. OK, I guess it was worse. |

If RCA spends a ton of money promoting Trespassing, it will be Adam's money they are spending. In the end, the "project" gets charged for everything. Oh yah I get that...and that is why I want to get some play time out of this album. I would think it is a double edged sword though. He probably owes a lot of money for the production of Trespassing. So he either looses a lot from non play on the radio or risks and pays out now to see if the album can go somewhere. He is beyond any of the lucky...youtube viral ...take me to fame... with this album. This album (I would assume) cost way more than FYE and he probably has not even made enough from stand alone album sales to pay a "drop" of the expenses he has put into promo gigs. I would think he needs the "extra gigs" to keep balancing out his promo deficit, let alone the actual album costs. It is all in or all out in the US market as the US market reflects on bigness elsewhere. edit: evamarie has a point too... BUZZ helps and he needs it... beyond the internet sites that report his comings and goings. So again, promo costs, and they are his costs. I would love nothing better than the Idol gig which could/should/would help... but no guarantee it makes the album supersonic unless people hear and buy! |

Dammit , all this talk about sales and CHR and HAC and WTF is driving me crazy !
IF Trespassing is the new single , then it got an add from an important (I think so , with al the ding ding dings yesterday) BEFORE it was even announced . That's good .I'm happy with that . Oh and , if it's gonna be a hit or not , I say "WHY not ??" It's a great song , faaaaar better than BTIKM and NCOE put together . So , if it's this song , then I'm happy , and optimistic . and this add , I believe , it IS A GOOD SIGN .
