You don't know what the majority of the people think or else his albums and singles wouldn't still do well in Spain, and they do. You are speaking for "the majority of the people". It's like when people say " everyone thinks Bieber or One Direction" is a joke. The facts and figures say otherwise. Now, everyone that person knows may think their a joke, but that doesn't mean that millions of other people feel like those in their little world feel. But, but Bieber and One Direction appeal to a certain segment, and their appeal will fade. Sorry but many do feel they are joke. And many do not. The "his appeal will fade" line was used here many times about Bieber before he released his last album. It didn't fade...in fact, he just had two top 10 songs for the first time in his career and he is successfully crossing over to the rhythmic charts. With his Xmas CD, JB has sold well over two million album units in the US alone over the last year. Bieber may "be a joke" to some, but he is laughing all the way to the bank. Forbes just reported that he is in the top 5 highest earning celebrities under 30. Many say that Adam "is a joke". It doesn't make it true.

How Enrique is seen is Spain in or out of context wouldn't concern idol. He's not considered a joke in the US, and Idol is a US show. Is idol even aired in Spain?

If you want, come to Spain and do a survey at a busy street. It's totally an attitude thing, not a figures thing. But you may think whatever you want to think. As I said, I don't make generalizations based only on the people I know. In Spain, platinum is 60.000 copies out of a population of 48 millions, by the way. Enrique has his loyal fanbase since he began, which is big enough, of course. But the rest of the people don't take him too seriously, and that's a fact too. It doesn't help that he doesn't really come over here anymore. He did a concert in May this year, and it was the first concert in 12 years. He's very big internationally, but in Spain we don't have that vision of him, and whenever it's mentioned that he's a big superstar overseas everybody gets very surprised. There's no malice, of course, everyone wishes him the best. But his international fame is kind of surprising for the average Spaniard, 'cause we just don't see him that way. Edit: Why do I always get the first post of a new page?

So here I am back from my wonderful vacay from Manila last Sunday and getting ready to go off again (work this time) for Paris/London. Oh, jet lag, how I despise thee! Every person I talked to in Manila (family, friends or just casual people like the hairdresser) loved Adam and agreed he should have won. Water under the bridge I know but still nice to hear. My SIL absolutely fell in love with him and watched the Kiev concert TWICE with me. Everytime BB smiled, she flailed and thought his smile could warm even the coldest heart (her words). ahhhh....I so agree. My first cousin who is a prominent producer/music director (he was a popular stage actor/singer when he was younger) is a big fan. I gave him the TP CD, copies of the Kiev concert and other videos and he told me - sweetie, I have all of them and more . . .I have tons of videos from you tube in my collection - so we spent a lot of time squeeing together! Adam's BTIKM video is the first one on Delta's music video collection. I watched it over and over during the looong flight (20+ hour total flight time) to the point that the flight attendant commented, you must really love that guy. I love him too! So off today on the long flight to Europe and more Adam music and videos on my iPad (thanks Glamtealady - waves). I love TP radio version. Whatever happens, our BB will be fine. We have his back and he loves us! Mayumi - I swear you should get the title of " Official AFL Ambassador Extrodinaire"! Keep spreading the word, BB. Oh, and all those gift cds too. LOL PS - I PM'd you.

I guess I'm not going to react either way about AI yet because nothing OFFICIAL has been announced. My concern at the moment is that we fans are able to go with the flow a bit (many are). But I'm always a bit worried when a few beloved Atoppers express so much investment in our fandom that they are crying or feeling huge anxiety or basing personal happiness on the outcome of Adam's career. I know many of us question our sanity at being here (yo). While I hope for the best for him, I need to stay focused on my real life and not live through someone else. Hugs to all.

Is idol even aired in Spain? Nope. We know of the show, and the press sometimes talks about the contestants if they're interesting enough... But it's not aired here. Some people follow it, though. We had Operación Triunfo for several years here, which was similar.
