Well, after they got Urban for $4 mil, they probably offered Adam $2 mil ... and after the Queen success, and with a probable tour coming up, $2 mil probably looked like an insult to Adam ... just sayin' ... I agree and I would think that Adam's two concerts in South Africa will be rather profitable It's not the salary that is important. It's all the advantages and perks that come along with it. Now Demi has the #1 song in the US. There are very few artists who get a #1. She is the new "It Girl", instead of a teen trying to crossover and make it. Adam knows how this works and so do other artists. Why do you think people like Nicki Minaj or Britney Spears would even sign on to be on these types of shows? Adam didn't turn it down, he is smarter than that.

I doubt he rejected $2 million; he probably would have done it for free. It's sad that he didn't get it, but it's good that the speculation is over and we can all move on.

Does anyone know what the fans of other artists that were considered for the AI judge thing are saying?

Well, I think in addition to salary (and once the word "million" comes up, really, to me that seems pretty good), Adam was also largely interested in the EXPOSURE. The fact that he so enthusiastically expressed interest in the job when he did was originally surprising to me - but, realistically, it probably shouldn't have been.

But I am hopeful, Adam will get to be a mentor. He would be damn good at it. Iovine turned me off....it was his speaking manner. Adam would do well doing this job.

LOL sorry... no one does anything for free! Its an opportunity cost situation. If he is sitting judging, then he is not out making money. So, no IMO he wouldn't do it for free.

Idol post - scroll if ya want to.
A tweet? And a rushed press release on a sunny Sunday morning? :4OMG: Most of us who wanted AI for Adam, wanted it for the exposure. If Adam were on that panel, we would be totally pissed now at this lousy PR for him. People were hoping that such an idol announcement would have given Trespassing a boost. Yeah right, a tweet from Nigel would push Trespassing up the charts. Sure.
I have always kept my ear on the buzz around idol over the years, but not usually watched (except season 1). Listening to the buzz made me find Adam, it also would make me find any other new artist to come along, if idol or any of the other shows happen to have one on board.
But for the music business itself and the kids that are growing up now, I am very saddened by the utter incompetence that seems to be running things behind the scenes.
The music industry in its present form does not have budgets anymore to finance major A&R efforts. Hence, the internet and TV need to do most of that discovery work for the record labels.
Idol was a well functioning branch of this wider A&R industry and has over the last few years turned into a farce. And it looks like the present, new executive and producer team is a clusterfuck of incompetence in so many ways that it is not even funny.
I am slightly unclear whether Nigel is part of that clusterfuck or whether he is the public spokesperson for that behind the scenes management and is now used and hung out to dry himself.
His tweet a couple of days ago...
Nigel Lythgoe @dizzyfeet I believe there is an official release tomorrow regarding the #IdolJudges? I do hope so as the auditions begin in the morning.
....sounded more like the latter to me. He sounds frustrated and may or may not care about Adam, but he sure sounds pissed at this roll-out of information.
Adam is off that sinking Titanic and that is good, but I am sad to watch the ship sink and many opportunities for him and lots of others lost.
Otherwise, I just did my radio voting/requesting...and now I'm off back to RL. On the Adam-Train as always. Nothing changing there.

I really doubt Adam kept his calendar open for Idol. If he had gotten it, he would have cancelled or rescheduled like the others did. I think he knows too much about the business to just stop and hope. I think there are things planned for Trespassing that haven't been announced yet. The fact that radio edits were made is a sign to me that RCA is behind this single and not just throwing it out there.

I told you guys that the show is stupid . NOW LET ME EXPLAIN MYSELF SINCE THE LAST TIME I SAID THIS I GOT A BACKLASH FROM IT : When I say that Idol is stupid , no , I didn't mean the that the "idea of finding a bright new star" is stupid , I did not mean the people who watch the show are stupid , My God , no . What I mean by this is that the Producers and the ppl BEHIND Idol are plain , very , very , very STUPID . Hell !! They even fucking *cheated* to deprive Adam from his Much-Deserved Crown . Because he is Gay . Jewish . Hot . White . Too Much Glambulge for TV . Screamer . His name is Adam (really ?) and on and on . That's what I meant . .........And I guess this announcement today pretty pretty much proved my point , right ? Riiiiiiight ?? Sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong here. No one cheated. The same guy in plaid has won for the past five years, it's a pattern and it clearly shows who the average AI voter is voting for. The producers and the judges wanted Adam to win, not the dull dude in plaid. Did you watch every episode that year? Have you watched the seasons since then? Have you read articles and watched interviews that have shown that AI always did and continues to treat Adam like the winner that season? The producer during season 9 couldn't even remember Kris' name, but he brought Adam back as the ONLY past contestant to ever mentor on the show in the nine years it had been on.
