Sometimes it is very easy to diminish the barriers that Adam broke through. 1. For all the talk about he would have made it as a recording artist without Idol -- I do not think Adam would have made it. We all know the list of first's Adam accomplished but the two big ones are FIRST openly gay US artist to get signed to a major label contract and FIRST openly gay artist to get radio airplay in the US. (Yes, there are asterisks for artists who came out late in their careers etc but you know what I mean. BUT even Boy George never came out until later.) 2. Even with Idol, Adam has not had an easy time. The world, not just the US, is NOT a level playing field for gay artists. 3. Remember at Adam's Idol audition, Randy said, something like "I think the time is right for someone like you..." I am convinced he meant gay, and more specifically who was openly gay in his performance style and person. >> Please don't go down the rabbit hole of the Gay Faire being signed or Elton John getting airplay in the 90's. You know what I mean -- in 2009 >> In 2009, when Adam was on Idol, US Radio would not play Sam Sparro's #2 UK Hit Song "Black & Gold". It was relegated to the gay ghetto -- clubs. >> Adam will win through in the end -- and he has opened up a path for other gay artists and celebrities. He did not do it alone but he played a big role. >> Most importantly, he did it on Idol -- a show that is popular with millions of tweens and teens. I know he has helped a few kids I know be brave and true and proud. >> Adam has gotten here and stayed nice. His patience and grace and class + unrelenting push to be true to himself changed the hearts and mind of many. On the Idol thing -- I am very pleased that a gay artist was proposed as a judge and that was not even an issue for most people. We have come a long way.Q3 - do we have another "First" for Adam here? First idol alumn and first gay artist was proposed as an AI judge. Thanks Q3 for reminding me about how far Adam has come in spite of the prejudice against him. You're right it was Idol who gave him the chance and yes to be up there with other stars for the judgeship was another breakthrough. I really believe that gay artists will have to do What AfricanAmerican artists did.,I.E. Motown get their own label and their own radio network/Tv show.Once people get to see them , I believe they will be able to cross over. It worked for other marginalized artists ,why not gay artists. There are so many LGBT as producers, directors, etc in the music business and in Show Business Why not work for their own folks??

Well, after they got Urban for $4 mil, they probably offered Adam $2 mil ... and after the Queen success, and with a probable tour coming up, $2 mil probably looked like an insult to Adam ... just sayin' ... But it was never about the salary. It was about the exposure and taking his career to another level. Now they will have to just find other ways to do this. It was always about the exposure for me. I'm sure they will find ways to get that exposure besides little one-offs here and there.

I told you guys that the show is stupid . NOW LET ME EXPLAIN MYSELF SINCE THE LAST TIME I SAID THIS I GOT A BACKLASH FROM IT : When I say that Idol is stupid , no , I didn't mean the that the "idea of finding a bright new star" is stupid , I did not mean the people who watch the show are stupid , My God , no . What I mean by this is that the Producers and the ppl BEHIND Idol are plain , very , very , very STUPID . Hell !! They even fucking *cheated* to deprive Adam from his Much-Deserved Crown . Because he is Gay . Jewish . Hot . White . Too Much Glambulge for TV . Screamer . His name is Adam (really ?) and on and on . That's what I meant . .........And I guess this announcement today pretty pretty much proved my point , right ? Riiiiiiight ?? Sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong here. No one cheated. The same guy in plaid has won for the past five years, it's a pattern and it clearly shows who the average AI voter is voting for. The producers and the judges wanted Adam to win, not the dull dude in plaid. Did you watch every episode that year? Have you watched the seasons since then? Have you read articles and watched interviews that have shown that AI always did and continues to treat Adam like the winner that season? The producer during season 9 couldn't even remember Kris' name, but he brought Adam back as the ONLY past contestant to ever mentor on the show in the nine years it had been on. I admit I don't spend nearly so much time and energy on this television show as you do but I did watch Season 8 and if Kamar is incorrect in saying Adam was cheated, you are on shaky ground claiming the producers and judges wanted Adam to win. To be clear, I don't have any reason to think they wanted him to lose - esp given the exposure and encouragement he received. But recalling the season, Danny Gokey received the most inflated feedback (pimping) in many idol watchers opinion - some of whom also commented throughout the season that the producers seemed to be working on a scenario in which 'wholesome, good back story' Danny was being pushed to go up against Adam. Of course Adam proved to be incredibly likeable in addition to his undeniable talent and Kris was a darkhorse who took on the American sweetheart role as it became clear Danny was neither as talented nor as appealing as many originally expected. The judges may have been less than enthusiastic about Kris than Adam by the end (because they have ears) but as it made for good television, I doubt the producers minded. They like ratings and controversy equals PR - talent not as high on that list. Jeez, I haven't had this sort of discussion since 2009 - i hope that we do move on from Idol now - and other singing competition reality shows. JMHO YMMV but I want More Trespassing please. I just spent some time deleting posts. I know the Idol decision stirs up strong feelings, however if you are willing to post your opinion be willing to accept comments on your opinion. Lets keep it respectful

I don't think it makes EVERYONE "feel better to believe that Idol is a sinking ship," but I think it definitely makes some people feel better. And I hope they do feel better. We're all processing. (I'll admit to a little "schadenfreude" when I read that Gawker piece, even though I think AI will do well enough next season.) I agree, and I apologize for using the word "everyone". That's not a good word to use, especially on a fanboard with so many varying opinions! Sorry!
