It's not like Adam wouldn't have brought some unpredictable outfits, hairstyles, comments and actions to the table. You would have had intelligent, well thought out comments from Adam, but there always would be that "what's he going to say next" feeling. Adam would have given them the unknown angle that Nicki gives them. What's she going to wear, what's she going to say... As far as Randy goes, My impression is that everything seemed to shift when Nigel signed back on. Did he not want Adam? Did he use up all their money for Enrique? Did they have to spend more than they wanted to on Nicki (and buying out her Pepsi contract) and Nigel? Did Nigel decide that they needed Randy back just this year to "steer the panel" until someone takes over? Nigel ran SYTYCD into the ground. I don't know why TPTB are allowing him to do the same with AI. Whateves, I'm enjoying the other two singing shows this fall! I have a weird theory that touches on one of yours. The original leaks on Minaj were that she was signing on for 8-10 million. The final leaks say 12 million. The difference between the 8 mil and 12 mil is 4 million, the price of a 4th judge. I think it was a last minute shiteroo (supposed to be "switcheroo" but I think my typo is better! I am leaving it!) to Randy to 1) stay in the budget and 2) keep Mariah happy. Randy may be doing this for scale. He already has his % of Mariah's salary. And coming back saves face instead of being kicked to the curb. The sudden switch from Enrique OR Adam, to suddenly "Randy is back" was too sudden for me to not think something weird happened at the end. And I also don't trust Nigel. He lies consitently, feeds TMZ info, and attacks fans on Twitter. I am right there with you! Something happened during a 7-10 day period around the time Nigel was announced as coming back as executive producer. I think Nigel was holding out for more money and AI was too scared to go to the next season without him. : I also think they were also scared that The Voice was going to get Nicki for the spring, so they wanted to pay whatever they could to get her. IMO, The Voice won out in the long run with Usher. Do you think Randy had a contract that they would have had to buy out, if they had let him go this year? Maybe that was why they were going to move him to a mentor position. Maybe they promised him development deals for new shows in the place of paying him millions of dollars this year? Maybe Randy agreed to do this season for very little? Maybe they had to keep Mariah happy after they signed Nicki and they had to give her Randy? IDK...but something shifted quickly during that one week time frame. >:(

Wow, I really disagree with this. I think SYTYCD just gets better and better every year ... I recently went back to some routines I had saved from the first season, and what I thought was fabulous then pales in comparison to the current season's talent of both the dancers and the choreography. The talent is phenomenal, Nigel provides opportunities to previous contestants (Travis Wahl choreography, bringing back the all-stars as partners, etc.). Although the show is sub-titled "America's FAVORITE Dancer," the judges' saves allow steering toward talent ... and this year there will be prizes for both the top boy and top girl, so they both have an equal chance. No WGWG here! I think the dancers got better, but the show didn't. His manipulation is even more obvious on SYTYCD than it is on Idol. Sadly, I expect SYTYCD will probably be cancelled and this season was the last. The ratings were really bad. really? bad ratings? wow...how sad... it is the only performance type show that I really enjoy...that promotes trained artists and features amazing choreography, amazing music and amazing artists... Did you see the 20/20 special with B. Walters re popular TV shows? The silly but fun Dancing with the Stars was voted by the public as the best Reality TV show... (followed by AI). I don't remember that SYTYCD was in the top 5.... It is interesting that Nigel promotes Travis as the alum of the show all the time, but seems to be set against promoting one of the AI alums on that show...makes no sense to me... BTW: Does anyone know if the grammy.com voting closed?

I was interested in what you said about the show's decline, so I googled. So You Think You Can Dance: Summer 2012 Ratings Published:September 19, 2012 tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/so-you-think-you-can-dance-summer-2012-ratings-23138/
These are the TV show’s ratings for the Summer 2012 season. The ratings are the best way to tell if So You Think You Can Dance will be cancelled or renewed for season 10.
Final season averages: 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.47 million total viewers.
[Ratings are listed by week. If interested, you can check them out on site.]
While SYTYCD’s return won its timeslot (easily beating ABC’s Duets), FOX was likely not regretting the decision to cut the show down to once airing a week. Year-to-year, the dance competition was down by 27% in the all-important demo (vs a 3.3 rating) and down by 34% in overall viewers (vs 9.45 million). No doubt the decline in American Idol viewers didn’t help as FOX tries to lead Idol viewers into watching SYTYCD.
Reference point: The Summer 2011 season ran twice a week while the current season has been cut down to one airing. In 2011, the Wednesday shows averaged a 2.3 rating in the demo with 6.39 million. The Thursday editions averaged a 2.1 demo rating with 6.34 million.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe Adam's music was ever used for routines or background music. I've heard that David Cook's, Kris's, and Haley's music was used. Assuming Kelly's was used since she is everywhere. But I don't remember anything from Adam. Even DWTS used FYE and IIHY. And The Voice and Sing Off used WWFM. Hell, it seems as if international reality or variety shows use Adam's music a lot more than they do here.

Is it fair? No. Is Billie Joe's profanity-laden temper tantrum amazing? God, yes. Oh, fuck this shit. I'm gonna play a fucking new song. Fuck this shit. Give me a fucking break. One minute left. One minute fucking left. You're gonna give me one fucking minute? Look at that fucking sign right there — one minute. Let me fucking tell you something, let me tell you something, I've been around since fucking 198-fucking-8. And you're gonna give me one fucking minute? You've gotta be fucking kidding me! You're fucking kidding me. What the fuck! I'm not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers. You've gotta be fucking joking. This is a fucking joke. I got one minute — one minute left. Oh, now I got nothing left. Let me show you what one fucking minute fucking means. [smashes guitar] One minute. God fucking love you all. We'll be back.
