I loved your post rabbitrabbit The best way have a chance of bottling lightening is to pursue quality, seek out that which is genuine, heartfelt, deeply moving, timeless.... IMO, Adam #2 has to be an album that everyone views as Adam's artistic vision. That is if Adam wants to have the credibility as the artist that we all believe he is. Collabs with people that are more famous than he is, collabs with R&B artists where he is the just the pretty chorus, and duets will not give that result. The Adam brand needs to stand on its own without support from the more established artists in the industry. In Adam #2 he needs to establish his music with his sound. We have already seen some of that in FYE with Aftermath, Rabbit Hole, Voodoo, etc. I like the people that he is currently collaborating with. I like that they are not huge names in the industry. Adam did a great job with FYE, but there was Pink, Bellamy, Hawkjns, and Gaga that were there to share in the credits and I think some of that overshadowed what Adam and his voice and interpretations were able to do with the music. It was like of course he should be successful with all that firepower for support. I want most of the credit for success in Adam #2 to rest clearly on Adam's shoulders. I hope Adam DOES collaborate with some "huge names in the industry" and those who are proven hitmakers. They are big because they have proven themselves. I think he needs the more experienced hands on this project as well as those who are not "huge names." I almost sense a bit of prejudice from some against the successful people he worked with simply because they are established and successful. I don't think Adam is too prideful to call on anyone who he feels will be an asset to work with him on Album #2. It doesn't take anything away from Adam to work with "huge names." I think it speaks to his smarts, actually, and how well he is thought of in the industry. ETA:I think that some radio hits are VERY important for Album #2. If that takes working with established successful people then that is even that much more important. Think WWFM-Grammy nom, IIHY and million+ singles sales. Important!

Quote from rabbitrabbit: I agree. I have no doubt that Adam will (as pointed out currently is) working with proven hitmakers. But time keeps on turning and tastes should and do change. Today's sounds aren't necessarily tomorrows or even six months from nows (Aren't you a little tired of Kesha, Bruno and Rhianna songs on the radio right now? Even if you like them?). If you just try to just copy who is hottest now, you actually end up a little behind the curve of artistic change by the time the album comes out. I think that it's "tomorrows" hits, fresh sounds, hot new artists and new genres that are the really important ones, as difficult as it is to predict the future. The best way have a chance of bottling lightening is to pursue quality, seek out that which is genuine, heartfelt, deeply moving, timeless, while also new and timely (that also means you don't overlook being aware of the indie edge, the strange and unusual, the music art students and college djs are listening to too). Both Sia and Nikka are these kind of artists from what I can tell -- they are musicians musicians. I love the albums "clap your hands" and "everybody got their something", and am really glad Adam introduced me to them. I'm so happy Adam is spending time to perfect things with these folks, sitting with his new music for a little longer before recording it. Listening and thinking and writing and doing all the things vital to creating a truely personal and unique artistic identity. That is the surest ticket to Adam's career longevity IMO, making great new music (as well as singing flawlessly and performing with fire). I can't wait to hear it. Excellent post, rabbitrabbit!! It never ceases to amaze me how many informed, articulate people are on Atop! Loved reading this! [/quote] Corners of my mind .. gorgeous song! Whatever Adam writes and sings will be amazing. I remember Monty saying, that he would purposely give Adam awful songs and Adam would turn them into amazing works. IMO Adam is a fine musician who knows a lot more than he has revealed . I agree that the next album will be Adam's vision. He has waited a long time for this opportunity and he has learned a great deal about music on his journey. After all he has been listening, singing, writing & experiencing great music for much of his life. Adam will be able to soar using his own impressive creativity, I am so looking forward to the artist, ADAM LAMBERT'S, very own musical canvas.

If Adam records Adam#2 with 0nly "huge names in the industry" as he did with his first album, he will be dead in the water. Those more famous than him will always get the first credit. He has to show that he can make an album based on his own artistic vision, his own brand, so the industry can truly identify "Adam Lambert music" I believe that is exactly what he wants to do with this album, and that is what he will do. He will collaborate with some of his old favorites, for sure, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder, but I am really excited to see what Adam, and the lesser known artists come up with. Cannot. Wait.

I will be happy is Adam has a huge single or two BUT almost all on my fav musicians and bands have really not been huge single artists. I want Adam to create an album that is important. Pink Floyd is are really good example. I love album #7 "Obscured by Clouds" (1972) Album #8 is one of the biggest selling albums of all time "Dark Side of the Moon" (1973) Albums #9 to #14 were big sellers -- #1 in many countries. But they really only have one hit single "Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)" (1980). In 1973 "Money" hit #10 in the US and #13 in AU but that is it. I know that we are supposed to be in the era of tracks and albums are DOA -- but I do not buy that. I think that it is still possible to create an important album. And that is what I want, an album that matters. And that is why you are administrator, seeing the big picture. Everyone on here wants Adam to succeed, including me, but sucess is a relative term when applied to someone with his talent. The fact that each week he is accepted more and more into the music establishment is huge. I root for him to have hit singles and videos in the Top 20, but I do not relish the thought of him collaborating with someone just to accomplish that, Snoop Dogg being an example of that thinking. It thrills the hell out of me to see the quality of the people he is choosing. Where the music for # 2 is going? Who knows, but it is difficult to diss songs by Keisha and Katy then expect Adam to do the same shallow things. I have no idea what the answer is because I've not had to worry about the business end of it, but he's figuring it out step by step and will probably be around for a long, long time. By the way, not that it is any more valid than anyone else's take, but I think he is very wise to live his life as he goes through all this. Having friends, family, and a boyfriend helps keep everything in perspective and at this stage of his career, that is not always an easy thing to do. On a scale of 1 to 10, I think Dr. Phil would give him at least a 9 for knowing what he wants and the rational way to achieve it.
