YES! Great comparison with Cary Grant. I think I said this once, ages ago, maybe even on PF, but a lot of what I love about Adam reminds me of Cary Grant (and Flynn, too) which is the ability to be goofy and sexy at the same time. Give me a goofy, sexy man and you've won my heart! Completely agree. It's why (in addition to the tights, lol) the Adam as Robin Hood idea was amusing/appealing. Love these gifs Yeah, I'm firmly convinced that the perfect movie roll for Adam would be one that allows for comedy, and a degree of over the top ridiculousness, but where underlying all the fun is a bright, warm, goodhearted soul. I'm sure Adam could do many different kinds of rolls--I sure hear those of you panting for some good romantic melodrama (though the emo is not sooo much my thing, I see how sexy this could be)--but I'm not sure how well those would be received, critically. That's a much higher hurdle. But I feel confident the critics would totally and completely fall for a silly, warm, bighearted, positive, loving, wise-fool of an Adam. Some secondary roll in which he steals the movie with his charisma, humor, and smile. That would be wonderful. (I'm trying desperately to think of an example of the kind of role I'm thinking of--you know, where the reviews all say the movie was pretty good but so-and-so totally stole all the scenes he was in--he was lovely! There are like eight dancing around in the shadows of my mind, but I can't pull em out right now. But hopefully you get what I mean.)

Just cuz it's Sunday and my brain likes to wander around getting into mischief, I was thinking more about this Adam as Heathcliff idea... I thought that it would be really interesting (and the basic storyline would still work) if they made the Catherine character a man, and Edgar Linton a woman. Everything else could pretty much stay the same, and damn, now wouldn't THAT be a hot story of star-crossed lovers? Gawd, I love me some star-crossed lovers!! Seriously. (I really do). How about Tommy as Catherine. Or as Maid Marian in Robin Hood. LOL. Maybe Monte could play Friar Tuck. ;D Just kidding, obvs. Time to stop being silly and get back to RL. Exiting before someone gets the hook...

So, I have been thinking about movies and although I would love to see Adam in a boy/girl lead romantic role, I don't think the US is quite ready for that yet. It needs, in my mind to be approached obliquely, and so here is what I have come up with. A remake of Sunset Boulevard - synopsis: Wilder's witty black comedy regarding a famed silent film star who refuses to accept the end of her stardom. Opens with a shocking flashback narrated in voice-over by a dead corpse - a victim floating face-down in a Sunset Boulevard mansion's swimming pool. Aspiring, debt-ridden screenwriter Joe Gillis (William Holden) hides from creditors while hired to write a script for faded film queen Norma Desmond's (Gloria Swanson) impending comeback. He takes advantage, encouraging her false hopes and moving in as her gigolo. The once-great star lives in a secluded estate with butler/chauffeur Max (Erich von Stroheim). The ambivalent, 'kept man' scriptwriter balances his exploitative dependence upon the film star with romantic attention toward young script-reader Betty Schaefer (Nancy Olson), creating a lethal situation. The perverse, cynical film references Swanson's actual career, with excerpts from one of her unfinished films (Queen Kelly, directed by von Stroheim) and cameos by other forgotten silent film stars (e.g., Buster Keaton). where Adam plays Joe Gillis, Ian McKellan plays the the Gloria Swanson role and the young script-reader role of Betty Schaefer is played by Ellen Page (not a big enough role for her but this is my fantasy after all). What do you think? A little boy/girl, a little old/new gay culture; I think it could be intense, real and awesome.

All of this speculation about the movies is fun. I do have one hope, and it's not a criticism, just my own personal vision for adam's future.
If the character is straight, I hope it is NOT rewritten gay for Adam. I want him to play straight characters straight and gay characters gay and all the permutations in between. He's got all of that in him and more. I want everyone to know what we do-- Adam is a multiple-faceted performer. Period. He is much, much more than his orientation.

scorpio, you're here!! I think it was you asking about saving gifs yesterday? Yes, every time I save a gif to my computer it's "frozen" like a photograph. When I upload my gifs into photobucket, they all start moving again. And when I copy/paste the gif link into my post here at ATop, the gif is still moving!! Imma gonna try it....have to go out now but will report back later!! Thank you!!

I do want to say, though, that Adam could add layers to a straight role... Because of his ability to accept and play with the many layers within himself. That would be-- intriguing.
