IMO, because the double standard in this country. Straight artist can do whatever they want, sings songs that contain offensive words and not a word from public and radio. But when it comes to Adam it's big NO NO and becomes a totally different story. Yes for sure.. my ass what an OTT awful word must be filtered.. Beyond ridiculous. If you can bare to listen to some hateful anti women rap and listen to the derogatory things they say and Adam gets panned for my ass. It's not even that, they cannot release FEVER as single just because Adam didn't want to change the world "He/His".

Adam is not an established recording artist. He needs the support and distribution power of a major label. We all make compromises with jobs and business.
With a major label contract you get an advance against future royalties. You get to keep it even if there are no royalties. The label provides funds to support creating, recording and producing the album. The label produces and distributes the album. And the label promotes it.
We can argue that RCA blew it by being too conservative but I have a different view....
The first RCA/Adam single was FYE -- not a conservative choice. They got him the closing spot on the AMAs. This was as high profile a launch as any new artist can imagine. The song got over 40 playlist adds, it just went nowhere. They they released WWFM and RCA called in favors coast to coast to get it airplay. 5 months later with help from people across the music industry including an Idol showcase they have never given to another alum, WWFM made the Top 10.
RCA then released IIHY as a single and promoted it aggressively. It was a modest success.
Now fast forward 2 years. They need to reintroduce Adam to the music buying public again. This time he does not have the fame of Idol to support a massive presale. They decide to go with a mid-tempo ballad in the style of WWFM as the lead single. It is by proven hitmakers. There is no way to undo it, now. But there is no certainty that a dance-pop lead single would have fared any better than FYE.
Setting it all aside, I have faith in Trespassing (single) and I am looking forward.

It's still not accepted in main stream America to be GAY!!!!! That's the only reason for the double standard. >:(

So what is different for Adam?? Adam is different because he rose to fame on TV vs. as a recording artist. It is a different path. ==> So did Kelly Clarkson and anybody and everybody following her in US and UK and everywhere else where talent shows result in recording contracts. By the time Adam came along this was a well established branch of artist recruiting for Sony and had been so successful that Universal was interested to inherit Idol from Sony and Sony was so convinced that it would continue to be successful that they allowed Simon Cowell to put that 5 million X-factor noose around the neck of Sony, which was not a smart business decision in today's music world climate.Adam is also different because he is not interested in putting out pure commercial product like Kesha, Usher and Britney. ==> Agreed.RCA gave Adam a ton of latitude -- he got creative control of his album. ==> But the latitude ended with the album delivery and the mistakes people lament about were made post completion of the album.RCA only had him record 2 or maybe 3 tracks for the album -- BTIKM the planned lead single (WWFM 2) and NCOE the transition single from the mid-tempo ballad to dance tracks. (The maybe is for Naked Love.) ==> There is nothing wrong with these songs being on the album, it is the roll-out of singles where the problem lies.Major labels are conservative because they have a ton of money tied up in an album. ==> Conservative to the point of failure is never a sound business decision, but it is often made by large companies, especially if the target market is not well understood.Let's hope that round 3 is actually successful, both for Adam as well as RCA.

Just sad that they did not realize that both BTIKM and NCOE are not really in the same league as WWFM was and that alternatively, Trespassing would have never been as much a risk as FYE was, because the lyrics did not contain as much controversy or actually almost none. It would have been less risk to go with Trespassing than they thought, but obviously in hind-sight they now know that too.

I just hope that RCA has some more favors to call in with the radio stations.. I'm gifting through adamstormtrespassing and buying.. Trespassing just has to be going into the top 10 at ITUNES.

Setting aside all the issues with RCA -- I am pleased that RCA chose to release an EP for the Trespassing Radio edit. It is an excellent strategy.
--
O/T I am watch the Il Volo special on PBS and these guys are amazing. If you like classical and tradition Italian music, this is a must watch show!! And they are teens.
