My take on the line "hopefully a new album soon". This was said by Adam Lambert. Soon could be in 2013 or 2015. Unfortuneately for us, Adam's "soon" is usually very far away. ** Regarding RCA, they will option a third album from Adam. But the label has no incentive to rush out a new album from Adam before they have maximized the revenue from this one. On the third album decision -- it is not so simple as what did RCA make on the current album, it is just as much based on what they expect to make on the next album. Regarding touring -- I have no doubt that Adam will do a tour in the US. None. It is the most profitable place for him to tour and, one thing we know about Adam, he does take care of the bottom line. Can't agree more. I wrote this in the dark thread, but since the discussion is taking place here I am going to venture into my question here: WHY will anyone expect the next project to be received by the US radio/TV better than the EXCELLENT, critically acclaimed TP? Which leads me to the "creative control" discussion: IMO RCA involvement is the ingredient that incapacitated the whole project, i.e. it is THEIR choice of the lead and the second singles that pretty much killed the album so far. BTIKM sorta kinda made sense as a transition from WWFM, but the NCOE abomination was inexcusable. I have a strong feeling that it was shoved down Adam's throat. - again that's just my feeling ... RCA should stay as far as possible from Adam's creativity, but I do understand it is their $s....hope they are smart next time around. I really hope that the release of TP is not too late to make an impression. Both, the song and the remixes, are superb and should resonate with kids in the US and EU. HAVE YOU MADE YOUR MORNING REQUESTS? Interesting post. Let me take a stab at answering the question you posed. 1. "WHY will anyone expect the next project to be received by the US radio/TV better than the EXCELLENT, critically acclaimed TP?"
Because I expect the next album to be more commercial and less of a personal statement. Don't throw rocks at me for this, but Trespassing does not have mainstream pop themes. That is why I love it, but that is also why I think it has niche appeal. On the specific comment, Trespassing has achieved about the same level of commercial success everywhere. Overall, it was equally successful with sales and radio airplay in and outside of the US. BUT Trespassing was much more successful in the US than in the other major markets -- Japan, German, UK and France. And US and Canada were about equal. Adam is a popular entertainer in Japan, for example, but Trespassing sales were modest there and there was no FYE-level radio hit. -- I am not sure what "critically acclaimed" means but I know reviews have almost nothing to do with sales. Trespassing got some excellent reviewed but also so OK reviews. And critical acclaim does not mean commercial success - Adele 21 is the best selling album in a decade, and it was not IMO "critically acclaimed". Critics love indie artists, anthologies and classic artists -- and gravitate to alt rock. Buyers love mainstream pop, urban/hip hop, and country music. The Mediacritic scores for example: FYE - 71(10 reviews) Trespassing - 66 (10 reviews) Adele "21" 76 (12 reviews) Swans "The Seer" 87 (An indie album that sold little, peaked at #114 on the Billboard 200 and at #22 on the Independent Albums chart) 2. "I really hope that the release of TP is not too late to make an impression. Both, the song and the remixes, are superb and should resonate with kids in the US and EU." RCA/Adam did a US radio tour with 4 songs including Trespassing. Adam himself said that there was the most interest in NCOE from radio. I hope Trespassing is a mega hit but there is no sign that it was a killer song that radio wanted but RCA held back. No one knows what would have happened if RCA led with Trespassing as the first single, but it is possible that that might have reduced album sales. No way to know. Hits do not usually rely on timing -- Tik Tok and Dynamite and We Are Young were hits and would be hits if they were released today. ** Adam put out the album he wanted. It sold enough to get him a third album which was not certain before release. Idol alums (and other artists) have a poor track record on album #2. My hope is that for his next album, he finds one producer to work with and they strip the production complexity down a lot. ** Finally, if I could roll back time, I would have released "Naked Love"* as the lead single. It is the pop song with the most universal message on the album and is has a better hook than BTIKM or NCOE. * Although I would change the production and arrangement.

The discussion of Adam future prospects related to his comment -- new album soon -- is on topic. Please keep it on topic.
If you post a comment that is just angst, I will delete it. If you read one of these, I am worried posts, please do not quote it or comment on it, you will just make me have to delete more comments.
TOPIC IS -- What did Adam mean when he said this:
"So what's next for Adam? Hopefully a new Album soon, he says."
It is also OK to discuss what you expect on his next album.
Thanks![/color]
PS If you feel angsty about Adam, set it aside, he is getting a 3rd album and that is a good thing.

Q3, I think I agree with every single one of your points. (Including the appeal of Naked Love which has a hook in the first notes)

And yet, even with their interest they refused to play it. Radio probably showed the most interest in NCOE because of the Bruno connection and because it's a generic/safe song choice.
IMO what RCA/Adam/his management need to do is stop courting US RADIO and start working the European market with his dance music. Break him internationally in the same way Gaga was broken internationally when US radio wouldn't touch her music.
Adam selling out and making commerical/radio friendly crap is not the answer IMO. He needs to stick to what he loves and where his passion is. Even if RCA drops him I have no doubt another label would pick him up and perhaps they would know how to properly promote him and his vision.
I just watched the Katy Perry movie and she had the same problem of the label not knowing how to promote her and she finally went to a label who let her do her thing and they went to work for HER and not for themselves and she took off. Adam needs that same thing.

Adam said in that long ago interview with Lyndsey Parker that success will bring opportunities to experiment and take risks. Nobody should fault him if he and the label decide to go a more commercial route for the next album. If he can somehow establish himself with a few CHR hits, it will allow for a song like Trespassing or Shady to have a chance. Bruno released a very different, retro song and it is getting played because he has established himself. He could release Trespassing and have it get 50 adds on day one. Sometimes you have to play the game a little in order to give yourself those opportunities to expand and experiment in the future. Give up a little now to hopefully gain a lot down the road.
Eta---cyndi's benefit should be a lot of fun, I would die for a duet (Sarah please!)

Q3, I think I agree with every single one of your points. (Including the appeal of Naked Love which has a hook in the first notes) I know NL is not the #1 fan favorite, but really think would have been a great reintro of Adam to the marketplace. For better or worse, "Call Me Maybe" is a big hit. And much betterer than BTIKM. But that is water under the bridge. >> Also, I picked "Cuckoo" when I first heard the album, not NL. So it is a shift for me based on rethinking what happened. I believe that Trespassing is a great choice for now. - It may be a hit in Canada and then some US stations will follow. No, it will not be a rocket to the top because RCA/Adam will not spend $1 million promoting Trespassing to US Radio. I think it has a real shot -- it is just going to take time and a lot of work by fans. - Even if Trespassing is not a radio hit, it helps RCA/Adam maximizing incremental sales from Trespassing (album). The Trespassing EP and single lets them focus on fans and concert goers AND reintroduce Trespassing prior to Holiday buying. So it is a win with our without US radio.
