Also a reminder that Twitter is starting to be "flooded" with fake Sandy pictures, many taken from disaster movies. Think before you retweet or panic over something you see on Twitter. Check it out on legitimate news sources.

I just saw the news about the hurricane on our TV. Sounds pretty scary. To all who live on the eastern coast - please, stay safe!

Curled up on the bed after a nice long hot shower - as long as the power is still on, gonna take advantage of it! Kid watching about her 12th Thomas the Tank Engine / Tutenstein / Fraggle Rock DVD (she doesn't get to watch much TV and we're supposed to get something like 85 mph winds tonight, so enjoy it and the popcorn while it lasts bb!) Otherwise, we've got flashlights, oil lamps, and lots of easily Sterno'ed food. Oh yeah, and multiple battery backups for our new baby koi's tank bubblers. We learned the necessity of that the hard way when our beautiful grown koi gasped to death after we lost power for almost a week during the blizzard a few years back. Need to get dressed, though, and climb up into the attic. The roof already has a poorly patched hole, and I need to check the basin under it. At least while there's a bit of light. Otherwise we're tucked in and snug. Kinda wonderful in a sense to know that whatever can be done is done (and if it wasn't done, it ain't gonna happen now!), and all that remains is to snuggle with my family.

Just stopping in briefly to say thanks for all the good wishes. We are hunkered down and the winds are now howling. Power has flickered on and off a couple of times so we know we will likely be in the dark soon. Kindle, cell phones, etc. are fully charged. Lots of food on hand (esp the junk comfort food ). I will go try to catch up on the threads before power goes. Ciao!

I heard from my sister. She, husband, and dog evacuated to a shelter in a school administration building near their home. Plenty of food and water there and National Guard troops. I'm happy about that because her husband is the type to try to run out into harm's way. Hopefully their house will survive in reasonable condition.
I heard Sandy has accelerated -- a quicker arrival could be a good thing if it means the very worst is over before high tide. Fingers crossed.
Good luck everyone!!!

Brendan Loy @brendanloy 14m It is possible #Sandy's acceleration to the coast may spare NYC the worst, but it's a very very close thing. Surge needs to decrease faster.
The surge is 6.6 ft. Needs to come down at least a foot., According to BrendanLoy
