Quote: it seems that most people are trying to explain why they didn't vote for her.I would expect that he is aware of all the reasons she got voted off and is saying that people are not focusing on vocal ability. He is telling us what he thinks is important. edit: I would think that it's easier to train someone with good vocal ability how to move on the stage (take off those 10 inch heels for a start, Pia), rather than the other way around. I don't know. You can't teach charisma. You can help people get better with their moves, but you can't teach them the inner whatever it is that ultimately makes those moves seem organic and believable. Pia just makes me realize how lucky we are to have Adam. It is really so rare to have amazing vocal talent and performance charisma and great looks and great personality all at the same time. Add to that the bravery to be himself personally and creatively and you have the makings of a real star. Adam is it; he is the real thing. Sometimes when I see Youtubes of Adam singing brilliantly in his early twenties, I feel sad for the years we have missed, but then I realize he needed those years to form and shape and prepare himself to be ready to handle and deliver everything he does now. He has entered the fame scene more fully developed as a talent and as a human being, and all of that adds to his attractiveness and to his music in really great ways. Things happen at the right time, and I am glad I get to enjoy him now. Even better, I know this will bring him longevity in the music industry, and that is, after all, what he says he wants, that, and to find love. So I am feeling pretty happy for him these days, because that is my wish for him as well. And I gotta say, I love when the universe rewards deserving people! Look how successful Carrie became. I remember her being a bit shy on that stage. She certainly learned a thing or two since Idol.

Beautiful thoughts, beautifully expressed, lynne. It really is a good thing we have such a rich trove of pre-Idol Adam performances that have been preserved for the ages. Thank goodness for youtube and the internet.

We know Adam is extraordinary, but it sometimes takes looking at/listening to other talented people to appreciate how vast is Adam's talent and appeal. We frequently say, "Adam is the whole package." The more I observe and learn the more that statement rings true!

I find it interesting that Adam's comments about AI this year have focused on vocals and praise of those with more talent in that area. I don't remember what if anything he tweeted about Season 9, but when he mentored, he praised everyone's singing, but called out those who failed to focus on performance and emotion and energy onstage. What is interesting is this new focus in light of what he has said about his own creative process for album #2-- more about the voice. Sounds like he's staying true to his theme. I’m not sure if it is a conscious change of his opinion or not, but there’s no doubt that Adam’s vocals are what make him unique in the music world. It’s what should be front and center for him. Sure, his look, his stage presence, his movement, his vision, are a huge part of what make him so entertaining on stage, but it is his voice that stands out as second to none. He truly can sing anything and I believe that his tone and technique can elevate an average song to be more than it could have been in the hands of a lesser vocalist. And live he’s another story. Electrifying on stage, yes, but no one…. And I mean no one sings live like he does. Very few can pull off sounding better live than recorded, but he is exponentially better live. Better than anyone I’ve heard live and I’ve heard plenty. It’s scary, really.

Thanks, pastababy!! I felt Pia was only starting to come out of her shell. I mean, it was the top 9, for Pete's sakes. How many past idols have come from behind, peaking later in the show? Who among the remaining Idol contestants has both killer vocals, consistency AND stage presence a this point???? (Comin up blank here). My point is that all these kids are still growing. A couple I feel have peaked. Whether you liked Pia or not, I would have like to have seen her stay on the show longer and watch if she did develop more. Ballads or no, she was one contestant I knew would have a vocal. I just gave Carrie Underwood as an example in my response to a post. That example would fit here too. During Idol Carrie could sing, but to me she was just another cute blond. Look how she blossomed!

And I gotta say, I love when the universe rewards deserving people! lynne I LOVE THIS POST!!!!!!Your words are so amazing always!!! ITA!! It is sooooo amazing how much someone has to have going for them to make it these days and STILL a ton of luck, timing, faith and courage from those above and around you have to be thrown in. I'm so glad he's had time to prepare himself and he knows who he is as an artist. I was just reading Jacob's TWOP recap and Chunkey's (LMAO) and thinking about the Jimmy Iovine and will.i.am "coaching" and how instead of mentoring these kids, it was more like they were undercutting their confidence and second-guessing them. Then they get no concrete judging; they're really playing with these kids' heads. I think Adam would have had enough awareness of his own abilities to withstand that debacle, but I'm so glad he was nurtured in the preparatory stages (he had M. Orland, Rickey Minor and Byrd all believing in him and empowering him – then all the mentors loved him too ... erm, 'cept Randy Travis). Afterwards, he was judged fairly (and we know how Simon does not blow sunshine up your ass unless he truly believes the performance was good). The stars really did align that year and Paula and Simon and amazingly Randy and Kara all helped play a role in introducing Adam to the world. So glad he made the leap when he did. Cannot imagine how things might have played out otherwise.

I think Carrie is still a shy person, but she has worked hard, and succeeded, IMO, in overcoming that shyness for her appearances and performances. That shy personality still shows through at times and I guess that's why I find her so likeable. I admire her. I have read that Beyonce is shy as well and she has said that she still has to work on overcoming that shyness for her onstage performances. Who woulda thunk it - right? 8-)
