This is from yesterday, I know I promised... but it is from RoumaniaLive: Adam Lambert @ Mnet Asian Music Awards (Dec 2, 2012) www.muuz.ro/live-adam-lambert-mnet-asian-music-awards/Google translation: Friday night took place in Hong Kong Awards Mnet Asian Music Awards MTV kind of regional and international guest was the great American singer Adam Lambert. And its many octaves he went on stage to perform his classic hit "Whataya Want From Me" and single 'Trespassing'. From one end to the other of interpretation and everything was perfect in terms of voice - speak very seriously, I listened very carefully and often sounded better live than on CD. Another plus is received and that he managed to overcome melancholy evident in the first half to make the show on 'Trespassing'. Perfect mirobolant, so yes, your favorites, etc. I could never. Glad its popularity is growing in Asia, but I can not notice a trace of 'sophomore slump'. Too bad, it's by far one of the most talented singers of the present generation - maybe if they had stronger songs written / produced by others and relationship radio would have been "on fire". Finally, enjoy the music! (video of MAMA preformance)

On Chinese government censorship -- it is not very consistent but the Ministry of Culture has NOT banned any artist for "gayness". They have banned performers for political speech, vulgar language, and for overtly sexual behavior (I can only find this applied to women and for things far beyond what Adam did). They banned a Katy Perry song because it referred to streaking.
No doubt that China does restrict performers but they do not have the same issues/standards that we live with in the US. They do not want violence glorified (banned Jay Z) and want no political criticism (banned Bob Dylan and Bjork). Sex appears to be far down the banning list.

I just learned a new word: "farcical". Yay!!!
Anyway, IMO we need to get rid of all the stereotypes surrounding the LGBT community. How many straight men are a little bit effeminate? How many straight women are a little bit manly? Why wouldn't it be the same for gay people? :dunno: If society has it ingrained that all straight people aren't the same, why would people think that all gay people must be the same? It's stupid.
That's why it's important that someone like Adam is in the public eye, even if it's a difficult position which I wouldn't wish on anyone. He's doing great. He's seriously doing great with making some people think all of this over.

I just wish our BB could get recognition he deserves that Grammy thing.. TBH I actually couldn't careless, but it's big, if WWFM is worth getting a nomination then so does Trespassing . Musically it is way more stronger IF the Male Pop Vocal GRAMMY category still existed (what Adam/WWFM got nominated for), still existed, I think Adam would be an odds on favorite for a nomination. But that category was eliminated 2 years ago. Now the competition is much more intense, and not comparable. Adam is in competition with P!nk and Kelly Clarkson this time, along with GRAMMY favs like John Mayer. BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM is a huge category with over 500 submissions. The GRAMMY voters are mostly not powerful people in the music business -- they are all members of the Recording Industry, performers, songwriters, musicians, producers. There are over 10,000 voters and many, many from the independent music sector. This is the most democratic of the 4 major American Awards academies -- by far. Adam may or may not get a nomination this year. But even if he does not get nominated, it does not mean that he is not respected within the recording industry. It just means that he was not one of the top five vote getters in the categories he was submitted in. ** I am a realist. It would be very unusual for an artist to get a nomination in the Pop (Pop = Popular) music category for an album that did not sell 200K units or produce a Pop hit in the US. Not impossible, but unusual. Over the past 5 years (25 nominees) there is one album nominated in this category that did not have US sales over 500K -- James Taylor "Covers" 2009. Adam could be the rules-changer and it would be stunningly wonderful if he gets nominated BUT even if he is not nominated, Trespassing will remain one of the best albums of 2012. Thanks Q3. That's why I say I couldn't be more careless about any awards.. I just think he deserves some if those awards are simply about music and performance. If Trespassing is not nominated, it simply means I disagree with what those professionals think should be on the top5 list. Grammy is not just about music. I know his chance is very small so I don't even think about it.

maddie and iilove... Thanks so much for all the interesting info on China!! I'm so happy we have Chinese peeps here, and also folks from other Asian countries!! I've lost track of how many languages are represented here... Mandarin (and Cantonese?), Finnish, Swedish, Danish, English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Greek, Serbian, Filipino, Portuguese, Polish, Welsh, Hebrew, Arabic... I'm sure there are a few more European languages/countries here on ATOP, but I've forgotten them all!! If I haven't listed your language, it's time to check in and remind us!! You called Seoulmate? You can add Dutch to that list of languages. Very interesting to learn about other countries Adam is performing in. Thank you all for sharing that background information. Atop is very educational :D (in many ways!)

[/IMG]
A farce is a stage show, movie, etc. based on "unlikely, extravagant, and improbable situations... and physical humor, the use of deliberate absurdity or nonsense, and broadly stylized performances." I think what we are really talking about is "camp": From Wikipedia: [Camp] originally was a distinctive factor in pre-Stonewall gay male communities, where it was the dominant cultural pattern. It originated from the acceptance of gayness as effeminacy. Two key components of camp were originally feminine performances: swish and drag. With swish featuring extensive use of superlatives, and drag being exaggerated female impersonation, camp became extended to all things "over the top", including female female impersonators, as in the exaggerated Hollywood version of Carmen Miranda. It was this version of the concept that was adopted by literary and art critics and became a part of the conceptual array of 1960s culture. Moe Meyer still defines camp as "queer parody." More: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_%28style%29ETA: Camp is hard to define but one of those "I know it when I see it" things. I would define it as "gay guys having a big laugh on straight people."
