Thanks all for the info on farcical? I just didn't recognize it out of context but it was good to delve deeper into it. I especially like how I had to ask the meaning of a word posted by a non native English speaker. I am so impressed by the language skills here, especially by how quickly you all pick up on slang and the nuances of how to use it. That's the hardest to teach, but here is obviously a good place to learn. You are obviously all studying closely. As an English as a Second Language teacher in a looong ago life, can I suggest you all talk and read out loud if you aren't already? It is so common for people to be able to read and understand foreign languages well but not speak them.

I'm going. We have VIP front orchestra tix, so my plan is to stream it. Depending on venue, I am not sure yet whether I can stream entire show or just Adam. www.ustream.tv/channel/vistadivaOMG, Vistadiva! If you manage to stream that concert (or even just Adam) you'll make my day!!!! P.S. I'm jealous. I wanna go too!!! P.S.2 Be careful, though. Maybe the venue will be strict about recordings. I promise you all my best shot.

Very interesting discussion this morning. Perhaps a bit uncomfortable or challenging, but sometimes stretching our ideas and perceptions is good mental exercise. As is accepting diversity in not only Adam's world, but here at ATop. What I find sexy, OTT, risque, off-putting, hot as hell, ridiculous, funny, provocative and delightful may be different from the next person posting. (For example, some like hirsute, very hairy guys, and that look creeps me out. I like hairless chests and others think that is effeminate. Yeah, TMI.) Every person on the stage with Adam is "cast" for certain talents, looks, attitudes and visual statements. There are thousands of talented singers and dancers in LA just waiting for the opportunity to work on a gig like Adam's. He can have any color, size, shape, gender, talent he wants. Make no mistake. In terms of who Adam puts on stage he is definitely HBIC. I can only conclude that the people he cast for the show represent the statement he wants to make: embracing diversity. Bravo, Adam. I'm just along for the ride.
I love the diversity in Adam's crew. The only quibble I have with it is, I'd like to see him add a senior musician or backup singer to the Glamily's diversity mix. He has just about every other demographic represented.
And don't tell me people over 50 can't jam - do the names Nile Rodgers, Brian May, Roger Taylor, Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, and Paul McCartney ring any bells?

I personally think Adam should have been worried about kneeling down in front of Aurea and then her putting her leg in between his knees! He should worrry about that backlash! Sure looked to me like they were getting ready for cunninglingus! ;D :4OMG: :4OMG: :4OMG: Oh, gods, I love you, but you already know that :D I laughed my ass off, and then I went googling for the historic and cultural references re the 'crotch-grab' gesture and, believe it or not, I bumped into this :4OMG: : A step by step guidance on how to grab one's own crotch: I think this is hilarious and hope no one will take offense. The article did move beyond its meaning as a prosaic, street gesture and mentioned Madonna trying to do a crotch grab as a feminist statement and MJ doing it as a part of his dancing moves, but they did not explain why. So, I think it would be a nice point to see why our Adam does it:) Imo, it is always a part of his performance of a specific song, it's not something he does for the sake of it, as rarely anything he does is. Adam was shocked when some people mistook his FYE AMA performance for his modus vivendi - his response to that was to persistently kiss Tommy on GNT. That kiss was a huge FU to all those who blurred it and had a problem with it, imo, among other things. All I'm saying it was a statement - whereas I think the Hennessy crotch grab was not it, just a part of the song's interpretation, a dance move. He did it while singing Trespassing, and considering the subject of the song, it most probably serves to underline its message that Adam will not take no for an answer. I don't think it's a FU - it's more of a 'I'm going to keep doing my 'thang', in spite of all the naysayers, pearl-clutchers and the rest - and lo and behold, look at me doing it in front of billions of people, in the middle of communist China!' I mean, how FABULOUS is he. No wonder he thanked Hennessy three times. I think he thanked them for letting him do his music/art sans censorship - which is my point. It's not something he randomly or purposelessly does, and if his set included other songs, he wouldn't have done it. It was not an act of a rebel, it's a dance move, it's an acting prop. Re the gayness of Fever - I have to repeat that it is the only possible interpretation of that song, seeing that it's a song about sex and that Adam is gay. If Adam tried to downplay it, or ignore its meaning, I would find him hypocritical and a coward. Which we know he isn't:))) And he is not stupid, he probably knows there will always be people who cannot understand it, or who will misinterpret it - hence his gratitude for being allowed to expose so many people to his music. I'm absolutely sure that he got a green light from wherever he had to get it before the show, proving over and over again that he fights his battles wisely.

SlapDash - I agree with you. My initial remark yesterday was a reaction to Fever as well. IMO Johnny goes really far out... I understand that the whole choreo for Fever was designed that way - the high heels is SA... But to me his (Johnny's) movements looked a bit out of place yesterday, a farce almost... Adam's sexuality feels "real", it is coming from within, it is his essence - totally different. This is a touchy subject. Does Johnny act "too gay"? I agree, Adam is more my style but Adam supports all styles on his stage. My guess is that Adam's response would be that there are many ways to be gay. He has stood against remarks people make saying he is ok because he is not overly afeminate in support for those that are. And you are all familiar with his exboyfriend, Cheeks?! (BTW, in Husbands, Cheeks has a great explaination of purposely living up to stereotypical overtly gay behavior). I think the clearly gay Fever was Adam pushing the bounderies of accepting homosexuality without glossing it over. This!!! Before Adam all I saw was sterotype gays on TV once in a while. And started to think that is how all gay boys are. Now I realize that yes, being gay and how once presents themselves comes in all flavors... Seeing Johnny on the stage, IMHO, is how he "want" to be or is naturally... I don't know him so well, don't know? But the fact that Adam feels comfortable enough to have those close to him come out of shadow to be upfront and strutting in all their glory - ho matter what the style of strut is - means a lot to him I would imagine, and is further breaking down barriers. I think initially, the discomfort had more to do with me than with how others want to project themselves or live life. With exposure comes familiarity and hence, I am now more comfortable and feel my horizons are and have expanded because Adam and his friends are in my virtual life.

I, for one, have had trouble figuring out why jonny's interpretation makes me a little uncomfortable. Some of it is what Augenposie said about playing with sexuality versus playing up sexuality. I think for me it is lack of exposure to Jonny's type of expressive dancing when not in drag. I love RuPaul's drag race. I can see that Adam is comfortable and playful with it, and I LOVE Terrance. I don't think it's the performance as much as it is about my response to it due to lack of experience with it. Intellectually I can go there, but something about me reacts "uncomfortable" when I see it. So Adam is truly broadening my horizons, and I'm sure I will become more comfortable over time. I don't think I'm small-minded, just underexposed, if that makes any sense. ETA: wingsofbutterflies ETA: adamfanem
