I think it's self-aware and requires some courage when posters acknowledge and examine their own feelings and and ask 'why am I personally uncomfortable with this, am I willing to acknowledge perhaps hard truths about myself and my cultural background and can I/ do I want to change?' Because that's harder but ultimately probably more rewarding than worrying about the reactions of people in a culture one isn't personally familiar with.
From my cultural background which includes my age, political views, where I live, my education, etc., words like 'a farce', 'simpering', 'dances like a girl and makes me cringe', 'explicit' (when nothing overtly sexual is happening) all have negative connotations and historically have associations with homophobic language. I am just talking about the words here, I'm not referring to individuals or their beliefs.
As junie pointed out, 'camp' is something different and has a positive connotation. Adam actually gave a bit a speech on it once which was pretty great if I remember. Does anyone have that bookmarked?

Augenpoesie, that's exactly what we needed.
Did you do something with Adam's pics from the Hennessy press conference? I didn't read the whole threads this weekend, so I don't know if I missed it.

Hopefully, I will be able to focus on the speaking as soon as I have enough time. I love English, so I want to learn as much as I can. I do talk to myself in English. Sometimes, my boyfriend and I talk in English too, haha. I've even dreamed in English. But still, I mess up the pronunciation of lots of words. It's kinda frustrating. :-/ Us native speakers have that trouble too. I read every night to my son and I'm often tripping over words. I know what they, are, what they mean, and can use them when writing, I just can't say them. And of course I hear my mother's voice (and not just from my childhood) correcting my pronunciation, grrrr. If we ever get bored I'm in for a conversation on how our mother's drive us crazy. Have you ever been in a conversation and started to use a word only to realize, just as it's coming out of your mouth, that you've only seen it written down and aren't completely sure how it's pronounced? All you can do is hope you're saying it right OR that your listener doesn't know how to pronounce it either!
In regard to being uncomfortable with openly gay behavior--I will confess that I've had moments like that, but not as often as I used to. My feeling used to be (and yes, I'm embarrassed to admit this), "Sure I'm in favor of gay rights, but they can't expect me to be comfortable with it, so they should tone it down!" What really made a difference for me was an interview I saw Ellen Degeneres do with Barbara Walters. Ellen said, "I know some people are uncomfortable with this. But I've been uncomfortable my whole life."
Those words hit me like a two-by-four to my head. Gay people have to adjust to the realization that they are not like most of their peers. That much of society looks upon them with disapproval. That they can be discriminated against, and even beaten or killed, because of their sexual identity. What could be more uncomfortable than that? And who was I to feel that everyone had to adjust to my comfort level?
I also confess that when I first started stanning Adam, I would toy with the notion of picking out actresses that he'd make a cute couple with if he weren't gay. When I found out that he was friends with Anna Kendrick, I thought how adorable they would be together. But now, after three years of being a fan and two of seeing him with Sauli, it just seems weird to imagine him with a woman! He and Sauli look perfect together. I must have been out of my mind to even consider any other scenario!

It would be so great if there were separate threads for augenpoesie's art (and another for animated's). Of course I would want the new pictures to be posted in the news section as they are created. But if there were special threads I would be able to spend some time in a fabulous art gallery whenever the mood/need strikes.
We are so lucky to have such talent shared here.
