Since many are confessing now, I'll add that I had to sneak to see Brokeback Mountain, because my mother is very against homosexuality, as "the bible tells us". I had to cover my eyes during the sex scene because it freaked me out, which is opposite of how I am now, if you get my gist. (But if I remember correctly the scene was abrupt and the opposite of touching. And I didn't really feel the emotion of the love story. I keep meaning to rewatch it and see if it is different to me. Would be nice to have more gay love stories on the big screen.)
So I went from being creeped out to turned on, and also from a skeptic of even civil unions to a campaigner for marriage equality. Thanks to Adam. So, I am comfortable with others who are still on their path to appreciating the gay dancers as I now do.

I think it's self-aware and requires some courage when posters acknowledge and examine their own feelings and and ask 'why am I personally uncomfortable with this, am I willing to acknowledge perhaps hard truths about myself and my cultural background and can I/ do I want to change?' Because that's harder but ultimately probably more rewarding than worrying about the reactions of people in a culture one isn't personally familiar with. From my cultural background which includes my age, political views, where I live, my education, etc., words like 'a farce', 'simpering', 'dances like a girl and makes me cringe', 'explicit' (when nothing overtly sexual is happening) all have negative connotations and historically have associations with homophobic language. I am just talking about the words here, I'm not referring to individuals or their beliefs. As junie pointed out, 'camp' is something different and has a positive connotation. Adam actually gave a bit a speech on it once which was pretty great if I remember. Does anyone have that bookmarked? But wouldn't it be nice to reclaim our language? For example if I was giving Johnny stage directions there would be a difference for me between saying "I want you to go fawn over the bridge" than I want you to go simper over the bridge". Fawning, to me, would be outward toward the bridge "oh you beautiful bridge, such a good bridge you are" and the simper is inward "oh my, bridge you make my heart flutter and my pulse go pitter patter". I think Johnny is perfectly capable of either as well as neither because I don't think he did either in the Art for Life perfomance years ago with Adam and Terrance. So for the moment this is a stylized choice. He's the yin to Terrance's yang for this tour wheras in GNT Adam did more of the yinning himself. For me I wanted to hit the camera man to go around to the other side of the stage because I wanted to see Terrance and what he was up to also. Now if we want something else to worry about then how about those afro wigs??? Yeah I was worried about how they'd be accepted too. |

Well ,well while Adam flies we discuss, think & grow...The man has done his job ,now hopefully Adam
will have a couple of well deserved days of rest,good food and being HOME with his love.
