Seoulmate....we haven't heard from Talon lately. Maybe you should put him on your list and give him a 'shout out'?!
No need. Talon spends a lot of time on Atop and can be found on the incredible Queen Discussion Thread (52 pages so far). It's pretty much a doctorate/documentary on Queen with a Q&A component and is quite impressive.

I think it's self-aware and requires some courage when posters acknowledge and examine their own feelings and and ask 'why am I personally uncomfortable with this, am I willing to acknowledge perhaps hard truths about myself and my cultural background and can I/ do I want to change?' Because that's harder but ultimately probably more rewarding than worrying about the reactions of people in a culture one isn't personally familiar with. From my cultural background which includes my age, political views, where I live, my education, etc., words like 'a farce', 'simpering', 'dances like a girl and makes me cringe', 'explicit' (when nothing overtly sexual is happening) all have negative connotations and historically have associations with homophobic language. I am just talking about the words here, I'm not referring to individuals or their beliefs. As junie pointed out, 'camp' is something different and has a positive connotation. Adam actually gave a bit a speech on it once which was pretty great if I remember. Does anyone have that bookmarked? Good to see you rabbit and love your post. I agree with you. And, yes, I support those who acknowledge their changing attitudes and long held prejudices but I think it's important when historically homophobic or other hurtful language is used that it be called out. Otherwise, how will people evolve and change if they don't realize what they are saying is hurtful and offensive to many?

This is a touchy subject. Does Johnny act "too gay"? I agree, Adam is more my style but Adam supports all styles on his stage. So what is "too gay"? This makes me feel like someone told me that I act "too manly" as a woman (successful at that) in a very male-oriented work place.

Those words hit me like a two-by-four to my head. Gay people have to adjust to the realization that they are not like most of their peers. That much of society looks upon them with disapproval. That they can be discriminated against, and even beaten or killed, because of their sexual identity. What could be more uncomfortable than that? And who was I to feel that everyone had to adjust to my comfort level? gay people are no different than you or I except insomuch as they are sexually attracted to members of the same sex whereas (I assume) we are attracted to members of the opposite sex. They love, hate, get angry, hope, fear, dream. They have great relationships with their friends and family, they shitty relationships with their friends and family. They work, they don't, they are alcoholics, druggies, straight edge, and in between. They are tall, short, fat, thin, poor spellers, English professors, they are math geeks and they can't do math with a calculator. what I'm saying is that they gay community is part of the human community and the bias and ignorance will never cease until people stop looking at sexuality as the defining characteristic of a person rather than just a genetic happenstance of birth (much like eye color). They aren't different than their peers ...they are exactly the same...in all the ways that truly matter.

Good gawd. Symantics are unimportant. Why are we getting worked up on the words people use and not the message they are trying to express.? I know the world is frustrating but nobody here needs a lecture on accepting a gay man. Aren't we all pretty much on the same side?

I am so enjoying each and everyone’s post on johnny. Introspect into why I don’t enjoy him as much as Terrance? I think it has to do with the projection of gays as feminine (misogynistic anyone?) Stereotypical actions seen as being the norm, Dr. Frank N Furter, "Rocky Horror Picture Show" as an example. I see it as reinforcing old, patronizing identity scripts and in imho it may seem to be a backward step. To take it a step to the side I don’t like seeing any group of people stereotyped, Red neck, Midwestern hick, nationalities, or any combinations. Stereotypes exist. There's no point in denying their existence. Yes, people do stereotype those around them based on appearances. Perhaps we are all guilty of this. Recently I was in a group of people I did not know well and was talking to a woman I put into a classification as being rather flighty and not professional. Guess what, she was an archeologist, highly intelligent and I was going by mannerisms and where we were. I don’t think Adam does much without a reason. Is he encouraging acceptance of differences rather than demonizing differences? Think outside the box? Redefine and debunk stereotypes? Evaluate the reasons for the power of the stereotype? Encourage the type of discussions we are having today? Or is a pomegranate just a pomegranate?
