I have to say that my family, friends and anybody who will listen to me know I am crazy for Adam. I get kidded a bit, and people on face book have started dropping me.. but I don't care. I have given away his CDs ,I have talked him up to people who have never heard of him.I'm basically a walking advertisement for him. Friends often call and ask about Adam and forget to ask about my family. When I saw a video advertisement of him singing in my local movie theater ,I screamed and explained to startled folks around the lobby who he is.My DH loves him too ,so we share all Adam info,One daughter went to see him live with us ,two granddaughters like him, the rest of the family keep quiet or else.BTW I have never been a fan of anyone before... I am unabashed in my fanship... You only live once and Adam is my IDOL.
To add, I don't think there is a magic formula for a number #1 song.
There are just some songs that tickle us,or make us feel or that we can relate to .. But It's really kind of a crap shoot. Unless of course you're are a certain artist, like Katy Perry ,Bruno, Kelly etc. who have gotten the golden pass.

I don't understand. How would he have a commercially successful new album, if there's no hit from the current one? Wouldn't it be cheaper for everyone if they just worked on trying to get a hit single out of the exsisting album? And why would he be doing less writing? It's not as if the singles he didn't write had proved themselves. I don't think he'll do less writing because has proven to be an excellent writer. The writing isn't the problem with Trespassing's commercialbility (is that a word.) For the first 2 singles it was choice and produciton. Please, RCA, keep Dr Luke away from the 3rd album...... far, far away!! Katycake, to answer your question, it would be very difficult to get radio to play a 4th single after they did not like the first 3. Cuckoo has always been the perfect Pop radio single and I don't even think they'd latch onto that one now, unless something extraordinary happened. THIS!!! IMHO, the person/or persons who made the decision for the first two singles was totally off the mark. Adam is a wonderful and creative writer and would hope he will continue in that direction. His songs, for me, were the best ones. Also, his BONUS tracks were among the best too! I have the UK CD also, with Map and By the Rules... Runnin is still my favorite, but really like Take Back... So many great things going on. And agree with the thought that Adam is building his "Brand" so all is good:-)

Here goes one person's opinion on Adam's music: I will buy anything he produces and replay it hundreds of times. However, if Adam wants TPTB to support him and Grammy noms, he should probably eliminate the following words from his songs - sh-t, a-s, F-ck, and any other of the 7 forbidden words to be used on TV. I know of very few Grammy winners with questionable language in their lyrics. FYE would have been more popular with just the change of two words - S&M appeals to a limited audience. Even I almost put down 50 Shades when I thought it was all about S&M. I'm on my 5th reading of this love story (stop thinking I'm crazy because many of you who buy videos watch them over and over). I have almost every song Adam has sung publicly in my iTunes library so I'm a fan like all of you on Atop. I spend an inordinate amount of time each day stanning this fabulous entertainer and I realize Adam is going to do what he feels best. At least he finally realizes that the Glambert army is his best ally and greatest resource. I remember the tinge of pain when he thanked everybody but his fans in the booklet that came with FYE. ENOUGH - hope I haven't offended anyone. IDK.. I didn't remember feeling that pain when he thank everybody but his fans on FYE Liner Notes. I think it's understandable to thank all the people that he knows for decades that have been with Adam, supporting him for years and to see that finally that dream would comes true. In 2009 after Idol, who exactly his fans were? A lot of them were fickle Idol fans and they left him because of a lot of things, because the AMA, because Trespassing's pop album not a rock album, and so on ... and so on. His fans that stay with him now are the ones he thanks for and he did on the Trespassing Liner Notes and so many times in every interview.

ENOUGH - hope I haven't offended anyone. You make a good point but since it is easy to release an original and "clean" versions of song about 1/3 of the songs on the Billboard Hot 100 this year contain adult language -- including the #5 selling song of the year Nicki Minaj's "Starships" with the Motherf'er chorus -- and are commercially successful. Another example, is P!nk's hit "Fuckin' Perfect" -- they just released a clean version for the stations that wanted to use it. Her follow-up hit "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" was impossible to "clean up". There are a number of current hits that have adult content without "obscene" language. These songs were #1 in the US this year: "Sexy and I Know It" and "Whistle" were #1 hits this year. Here are some of the lyrics to "Whistle": can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby let me know girl i’m gonna show you how to do it and we start real slow you just put your lips together and you come real close can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby here we goLanguage and socially acceptable language is in constant motion and the "7 obscene words" were somewhat relevant in 1972 but are not used now -- 3 are regularly used in primetime TV -- shit, piss, and tits. I think adult themes and language are here to stay.

But I do respect that this is your opinion. I'm just sorry you feel this way.

Yeah, I also read someone mentioned/commented this in EW or Idol forum during the S8. That's the first time I read that his voice LIVE's 10x better than what we heard on TV, but Fox and Idol Producers had to adjust the audio for Adam's performances and all the receptions he got from the audiences in the studio so the gap between him and the other contestants wouldn't look too big. And off course I witnessed it the first time on S8 Idol Tour. phew.. the voice and the receptions he got . I was really afraid I wouldn't be able to hear anything after the show. ;D This all has made me remember when I first saw Adam live, at the Idols tour -- I went to the one in Seattle, which was the 2nd show and had crappy sound in the arena. In spite of all that, Adam CLEARLY had the best voice and every time he appeared on the screens before the concert, everyone screamed. When he came on stage, it was madness! I felt his set was over in a bliink, and I remember thinking, oh wow, he is just amazing! I have seen him 3 times since then (all GNT), and he has been wonderful each time--even when I stood next to the speakers and nearly lost my hearing. Of course, during that concert I was also almost next to the stage and was 3 feet from Adam during Fever---WOOT! Wow, what a sexy beast! Another thing for our Adam virgins to know, and I know it's been said a lot but I don't think you really realize it until you see him for yourself, is that he really is MUCH better looking in person. I have seen lots of celebrities up close and personal, and some look worse and some look better in person. He really looks better in person...and we know how beautiful he looks in pictures. It really is something...his eyes are very pretty...sigh (lucky Sauli). It was in the Tacoma Dome. I was there too

Which live versions of TP songs do I prefer to the studio versions? I am a minimalist. I like very little to interfere with the vocals and interpretation. Soooo, Trespassing OOL NCOE BTIKM In the first one, I heard voice crack maybe I am wrong. It is really rare since I always hear voice cracks in many other singers voices when they sing live but not in Adam's voice at all. OOL the Mix Megapol unplugged version in Sweden is really really beautiful. This one is equally beautiful. I also really love the Austria Showcase one. God his voice just flows with the piano sound. ETA, I should be more clear that when I compared live performance of TSP to the album I actually was talking about plugged in live versions. ;D

@mys*&@^#r, thanks for bringing that chart over, that is interesting. I think the reason Strut is relatively high in single d/l totals is because it was performed live early on, on Ellen (and a great performance it was!).
And as you can see, there is a big jump from the tracks with high exposure (WWFM, IIHY, FYE, TFM) down to the next group that is lead by Strut in 5th place since Ellen debut, but very closely followed by two others. I don't think that it was ever voted as favorite in any poll. I do believe though that it was one of Adam's favorites, hence his choice of direction in TSP.
My family and close friends do know about my interest or even obsession, but it does not interest them as a topic. It only interests them in the context of me putting time into something they could not care less about and they consider worthless. There is no attempt to even try to understand me. To them, being interested in pop music, or supporting an artist is completely off the wall. They don't have any questions for me, because they have not even the beginnings that would allow them to ask any. They would not have a clue about charts, current music trends, the music biz in general, etc. They don't actively listen to pop. It is just background noise in public places and not worthy of any attention or effort on their part.
Now the LGBT cause, that is for some more interesting, but the moment I take the discussion from the general to the specific example of Adam, their eyes glaze over. It is not personal or directed towards Adam, it just is not their world and they don't understand why it has become mine.
It is what it is. My brother at least knows a few Queen tracks, so I tried that angle. He has those records and plays them, there is no interest to explore, interpret, enjoy the track sung by somebody different, talk about it, whatever....its just a track on the playlist that gets consumed. He knows that Adam sang with Queen, but there is no concept of whether this is an achievement or not, what is important about that or what could be interesting about that.
I just live with the fact that this is my hobby that I enjoy with a new group of friends, but not with the folks closest to me. My husband is supportive of me, but not interested. He cares, because he knows that I do. He listed to the Sandy Relief concert yesterday (up to the Who). There is some overlap in music interests, but Adam is not part of his world. He enjoys more the bands and their instrumental contributions. Vocals were just never his focus. But he has absorbed a thing or two via me. We chat every once in a while about Adam related stuff, but I try not to start bugging him with it, so it does not nearly reflect the level of interest I actually have.
I have a nephew who will get the remix TSP for Xmas. We will see what happens there. So, I do try to integrate it, but it is a cold sell, if you know what I mean.

I do not believe you can judge the quality of Adam's live performance based upon YTs. The acoustic live recordings are better then the electric, but the recordings from the audience are usually distorted and the sound is not balanced. I love them, but I listen to them knowing how different and sonically limited they are.
Similarly, I now avoid seats in balconies, upper decks and far from the stage because these are the places that often have distorted sound.
