Hey anyone using faggot is cool with me as long as it's a nice context. Like a friend has called me a "beautiful faggot" before, that's a compliment. Now let's take the harmless word "fairy". But if a homophobe called me a fairy maliciously I'd be offended. I don't get offended whenever I see the word fairy though. CONTEXT! True...and the context is that they are a friend...not tweeting out to the universe full of people they have mostly never met, of massively diverse cultures... And why would the twitterverse take it personally? He was using the word to describe either himself, the scene in the video or a friend of his. Context still applies.

I disagree completely, Mszue. No offense. 100% agree with you, albiku! Adam would not use the word ni**er because it is not part of his community. The word cunt and cunty is part of his community, as is Sutan. There is really NO parallel in comparing the 2 words and how they would be used by Adam! Hey, look at this! "Cocky came from cock and cunty came from cunt!" A word generally associated and used in gay society. It means an overwhelming feeling of self-conceit or cockiness. Associated with many feelings, usually of being a bitch, cocky, conceited, arrogant, obnoxious and the list goes on. Cunty The female version of cocky.

Adam has removed his tweet. Respect. I have deleted both of my comments. He did not delete the tweet -- it is still there. And I doubt that he will delete it. Adam used the word "cunty" in a tweet a while ago and explained that it was not meant as an insult (sorry, I can't find the tweet right now -- it was over a year ago). So, in his circle of friends, and particularly his drag queen friends like Sutan, cunt is not a pejorative term. The meaning that you see in this word is far different than the meaning Adam sees in it. It's your decision, of course, but would you really walk away because you disagree on the usage of just one word? Hope you reconsider.

This was twittered out publicly....to well over a million people around the world, many if not most, women. That is the context of that tweet....Yes intention is important...but words still carry a world of meaning all by themselves and it is disingenuous to claim they do not...that just moves the whole thing into a "blame the victim' stance....and allows for the classic passive aggressive stance: "you misunderstood me"...or "just kidding" or "lighten up" or "sheesh, can't you take a joke"....yada yada yada He tweeted it to Sutan, not you, not me! Sutan is a friend!

He took the tweet down, probably realizing his mistake..Adam has explained that words are just words that it's the intent behind them that gives them meaning.. He had a George Carlin moment. OK, why is it a disparaging word? Fuck used to be too but now everyone says it. Why is cunt bad but Va Jay Jay is not! Sorry, but a word is just a word and the intent behind words is what makes them bad. We all know how Adam and some of his friends use it. Do you think he was dissing Sutan when he use it or saying he thought the vid was awesome? If Adam using one word makes someone not a fan, especially when he has actually explained his use in the past....... IDGI!! [/IMG]
myspenser- I really hate if he took it down because the self-righteous, holier-than-thou word police beat him over the head with it and caused him to take it down. That is so wrong. :-/ ETA- Just read he didn't take it down. Hope he didn't.

It's a coversation between two very close friends, I don't understand why people offended by it. It's not directed to any of us.
Adam is right. People take what he says and does too seriously even people take it personally conversation between him and his close friends. After 3 years, his fans should all know that Adam is NOT an Angel and he will say and do whatever he wants to do. He says all kind of words that he uses in his circle that we've never heard or use before. Why do we expect Adam to watch what he says now? :4OMG: Sighhh.. I think sometimes we expect too much of Adam and take things too personally.

I get :dunno: over the use of certain words. Why are some words seen as obscene and others aren't? Why should we not say "shit" in polite company but people say "crap" and or even "poop" as substitute words all the time? They all have the same meaning and intention don't they? I'm not saying that I'm FOR one side or the other, and I don't usually use that style of colorful language myself. I just don't know why certain things are okay and others are not. After looking at definitions for our contentious word, I can't find anything that refers to rape, mostly to body parts and derogatory name for a woman. However, for what it's worth, Wikipedia has this: In gay slang the term is used to describe something or someone being extremely original, impressive, or fantastic in regard to style (fashion or music) or demeanor. Both "cunt" and "cunty" are used interchangeably, often in adjective form. Originating in Ball culture, the term was popularized by the song "Cunty (The Feeling)" by drag performer Kevin Aviance.

Adam is not a female. If the word carries no gender meaning, then why use it...stick to cocky. I have no problem with that...I don't have one of those....

Pretty much. I don't find words offensive in of themselves. They're merely symbols and sounds, devoid of any substance. It's the intention placed into them which offends me, or not. Exactly! "Words themselves are innocouos" This statement stayed in my mind from a short reading we were given in a class of semantics. The reading is called "The Meanings of a Word" by Gloria Naylor. An eye opening reading of her own experiences with the word "nigger", when she was a kid. ETA: I found a link to the reading: faculty.ucc.edu/english-chewning/naylor.htm
