Haven't been walking this past week but only up .2 lb from last Wednesday. However if I look at my trend weight I am down .3 lbs so all is good.

It was really cold here this past week, and I admit I slacked on walking! I did make it to aerobics twice. I am also dreading the advent of winter allergy season here in Central Texas; will just have to do the best I can.
I did do well on healthy eating. Love those cherry tomatoes! I would like to share three recipes, for pears, for turnips, and for sweet potatoes.
Pears & Onions au Gratin (a savory, unusual side dish - don't think kids would like it)
Spray glass baking dish. Cut red onion into small wedges and cover the bottom. Slice up 3-4 pears (depending on size) and place over onions. Season with thyme, salt, and pepper. Drizzle with olive oil and stir around. Cover and bake at 400 for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, combine bread crumbs with equal amount of parmesan cheese and a little olive oil. (The recipe called for 1/2 cup each but that was too much IMO) Remove pears from oven and top with crumbs/cheese. Return uncovered to oven for 30 more minutes until top is browned.
Caramelized Turnips
Dice your turnips. My turnips were very small and made about a cup. I didn't bother peeling them. In a skillet, cook turnips with a little water and 1/2 bouillon cube (adjust to taste/amount of turnips) until the water has evaporated and the turnips are tender, about 15 minutes. I had to add more water about halfway though. Reduce heat and add a little butter to coat. When the butter is melted, sprinkle with a little sugar to taste and cook for about 10 more minutes.
Slow Cooker Sweet Potatoes
Line the bottom of your slow cooker with foil and put in 1/4 cup of water. Wash your sweet potatoes and put them in the crockpot without drying them off. Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours. That's it! This was the easiest way to bake sweet potatoes I ever found and they turned out perfectly.

Great to see you back here Chapf!
That pears and onions recipe sounds really good Juniemoon.
I missed out on one of my walks this week and had a really cold one last Friday when it was both freezing temperatures and lots of wind. Yikes! It's warming back up this week and we'll be back to the usual above freezing and lots of moisture. Out for a walk around lunch time today.
Mad at myself as after the nice weight loss last week I'm up .6 lbs. again this week. Didn't think I would lose any, but also didn't think I'd been that bad. Better knuckle down this coming week before we hit the real eating time over a family visit and then Christmas. I'll be doing my best to keep it reasonable, I can't eat as much as I used to anyway.
Hope you're all hanging in there!

I'm so slow always. I get lost in the rabbit hole of the main thread and poof, that's all my mind has room for. leather pants. ooop, ssseee? It's freezing, snow on the roads, my dad is staying with us (I need a self help thread just for that), I need to go to the store. Excuses, excuses. I'm up 2 I'm down 2, I pretty much just float around the same number.
But you guys are all so coool! Inspirational and such hard workers. I can't believe we've made it the whole year! It's a record.

Well, against all odds, I lost 1.4 lbs this week, but not for good reasons. Having a lot of back/hip pain so have done very little exercising. Painful to even walk, so not going to store, not cooking. Eating from stockpiled stuff.

Wednesday - Check in Day
stardust, hope you are feeling better this week. I get hip pain sometimes too and it's just grrrrrr.
I'm going to try something called the Fast Diet, it was in my Better Homes and Garden this month. You eat regularly for 5 days a week and then cut down to around 500 calories for two of those days. It's only 7 in the morning here so I have big plans. We'll see in 12 hours whether I could do it.
When the new year comes around do you all want to stick with this thread or do you want to start a new one? We've never made it thru the whole year before so I had always started a new one to get us kickstarted.

Maybe start a new one, Jablea? Then you could invite more people and those of us who made it through the year could rededicate our selves to our goals.
Speaking of goals ... I have been sick with some kind of awful flu/cold/crud all week. Soooo ... not much to report. I made bread with my leftover persimmons. Still eating on sweet potatoes too. I think the only thing I have left is an acorn squash. The farm baskets are going on winter hiatus. I already miss them.
Happy Holidays everyone!!
