Checking in on my goal to try to eat a little healthier. The box of farm produce turned out to be great. I got enough produce to fill two huge totebags. Since there are only two people in my family, this means we have to eat up the produce every day to get our money's worth. I got three different kinds of lettuce. I have made several salads from it and they are much more flavorful than the bagged salad I usually get from the grocery story. I also got grapefruit. I like to eat fruit for dinner too so I have switched off between the salad and the awesome grapefruit. We are finally having winter here so I wanted to make soup. I used the beets and the cabbage to make borscht and it was great! I also made a soup with the spinach and some leftover seafood I had -- it was OK but not as good as the borscht. I have a lot more lettuce to eat up, along with some butternut squash and some turnips. As far as exercise, I did great last week and got in my 5x, but this week I have come down with an upper respiratory crud. :( I really went downhill yesterday and am home sick today, so I don't know ... I have exercised 2x this week and hopefully I'll get in at least one more time. Thanks for the smoothie recipes. Smoothie lovers, do you find a smoothie is enough for breakfast? Does it "last" you until lunch? P.S. I do not really have exercise equipment except for weights for my aerobics class. Last year I had a flareup of some nerve pain that I had thought I had left behind in my 20s, and I had to go down to 1 lb weights. My goal for the year is hopefully build back up to 3 lb weights.

Good news! Through no effort, well, not much, I have dropped 2 lbs! I have a cold, and haven't felt like eating much, so can't really contribute the loss to hard work-outs or cutting out those last few Christmas M&M's.
Now, I need to drop 5 more lbs to reach 2010 GNT level, and my goal is to drop another 3 as well. This is actually just a beginning of the year goal, as I have been carrying an extra 40 lbs for some years now. It would be so nice to get all that extra weight off once and for all. Would also aid in relieving the aching joints that come with age.
My dh helpfully pointed out that the 25 lb. box of cat litter was how much extra weight I was carrying around. Men can be so inspiringl!
Exercise equipment - I have a weight training system that I got for Christmas some years ago and have never used. I have exercise mats and yoga mats. I have many Yoga tapes, but they are all VCR and I don't know how to get them to play on my TV anymore. They are all at least 10 - 15 years old, probably wouldn't play anyway. I probably have some small hand weights tucked in a closet somewhere. I have a Pilates kit with mat, DVD workout program, etc. My newest exercise aid is a dance program for XBox Kinnect, it is a lot of fun, and a good workout, if you like to dance. I also have Hip-Hop Abs, a DVD that has a fun workout that also teaches some hip hop dancing. Haven't done it in years either.
My normal exercise routine consists of walking out to the horse barn (it's not very far from the house), and feeding the horses and dogs. Daily, I have to lift a 50 - 70 lb bale of hay, or a 50 lb bag of feed, but don't have to move it very far. The cans I use to feed the dogs weighs about 3 lbs, one can in each hand. But, this is not really a lot of exercise. I have a large house, it is 67 steps from my bedroom to my kitchen, and I walk back and forth a lot, but I'm sure it wouldn't add up to much if I tried to measure with a pedometer. I also have stairs that I could go up and down. I live in the country and have places I can walk, but I don't. I really have no excuses for not getting the exercise that would be good for me.
Last year Jablea was so helpful in suggesting ideas for me, and they were all good and I remember them all. So I really have no excuse other than the lack of passion and motivation that it takes to get moving. I need to meditate and motivate!

Checking in! Didn't do so well this week. Gained .4 lbs, but it could have been worse.
Week 2: + 0.4 lbs Total: - 2.6 lbs
Unfortunately it has been unusually cold here, so haven't been doing aquarobics. Looking into possible gyms but not thrilled about that. Problem is MD said not to walk anymore than necessary. No treadmills, no yoga because of bad knee. Do have 1 lb weight but can't even find them at the moment. Have aqua float belt and foam "dumbbells" but no other equipment. Also have old "Sweating to the Oldies" so may have to try that again.

Checking in... Lost 1 pound Goal 10 pounds, 9 to go I'm really encouraged because I didn't expect to lose anything since I've been struggling to get into the right frame of mind for dieting. I'm not a smoothie person so don't have a recipe to share but there are a couple of things I would like to recommend. Newman's Own Low Fat Sesame Ginger salad dressing is very flavorful and 2 Tbsp have only 35 calories. I also like to eat a lot of Kim chee when dieting, it's very low cal and nice & spicy. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and to chapf for the hilarious smilies!

Kim chee (also spelled kimchi) is a korean dish made of fermented vegetables. There are lots of varieties but I get the common kind that's available in grocery stores here in California. The kind I get is mainly made of cabbage, radishes, onions, garlic, chili peppers. It comes in a jar and must always be refrigerated so it's usually in the same section as the tofu in the grocery stores here. If you like spicy food, you might like it. I LOVE it but my DH absolutely hates it, so it's not for everyone.
