Do you all really think the American audience is that prejudiced or is it the studios showing just how great a cajones deficit they suffer from? I just find this so odd I can't tell you....

That is essentially why Adam had to go on Idol. It was his only way to get signed to a major label contract. I agree. I actually had a discussion with a Queen fan once about this. He said: "If he was a real artist, he would have made it on his own without having to enter a popular contest." (Let me roll my eyes before going on, please. : This attitude is present in many rockers, and I hate it...). My answer was that Adam knew that it would be difficult to get signed because, for the record labels, he was "too risky". And that going on Idol was probably the only way he would get that chance.

Yes and yes. But mostly, that when people invest $50 million in a film and promotion, it makes them risk adverse.

I think it has more to do with $$$ and a small projected audience. After Brokeback Mountain, I don't see gay being a problem for a Liberace story.

Liberace was such a great performer. He was performing at the first casino show I ever attended when I was just a kid. When I would visit my aunt and uncle in Reno they would take us to a show. We would get all dressed up (my aunt would buy me a new dress) and I would watch my uncle tip the maitre'd so we would get a great table. I felt so sophisticated in the elaborate showroom, elegant dining and then the show. What great memories! A friend of mine confided to me that Adam reminded her of Liberace. Haha.
It is sad that tptb don't think America would love to see a well produced movie about one of its great entertainers. Or that others think a story about Liberace is too gay for the masses.

mszue, it's the conjones.
Such irony that Liberace was good enough for grandma but "too gay" now. Yes, I know supposedly he was "in the closet." What a joke, everyone knew.
